I was mostly just going for a laugh, not really trying to be an apologist for our FO. I have my own reservations/frustrations regarding our "small club" approach. I just noticed in the last few weeks that regardless of the announcement, a few of which I think actually ARE positive, the reaction was pretty much the same. And it struck me as funny. I was going more for a send-up of this board (which I'm a participant in and have, from time to time engaged in the very behavior I am making fun of).
Fool me once ... We have made some good moves, but we've also made some questionable moves. The jersey sponsorship has to be seen as a good move, Dawkins, Imperiale, Barrett improves our forward depth. This is true. I more than question the choice of Tarbell, unless we know that Jurgen has fallen in love with Bings (possible, though unlikely) we don't need a new GK. And we've got two very good academy GK's in the wings. And I'm not certain that we have improved enough. We'll see, but I think we all have reason to be skeptical. After all, the proof of the peach is in the eating. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Dom said the Quakes #1 priority in the offseason was to re-sign Quincy Amarikwa?? Such is the unpredictability of MLS from season to season. Who would have thought at the start of last season that we'd be practically building the team around journeyman Chicago reserve forward Quincy Amarikwa? BTW talk about setting yourself up for success, of course you're going to be able to re-sign him. He ain't going anywhere. You just need to offer him a bit of a raise from his modest $90k salary figure and you're good! So I've given up trying to predict what will happen season to season. I guess I'd give the team like a "B-" for the offseason moves but who knows how it will all turn out. Oh and to bring it home I predict we'll have a jersey sponsor!
@bobby_guzman - Noted. I'm the first to admit I channel pessimism and am critical on this forum, but it's not because I hate the Quakes and want a punching bag. It's because I want them to be a great, winning club. I've seen people content with mediocrity for years, through the rebirth and Doyle's management through coaches Yallop and Watson and now Doyle. I only demand that the Quakes try to be one of the best teams in the league. That's why I bitch and moan. It accomplishes little in this place, but it is a small community of some of the major passionate Quakes fans and lots of us do express opinions to the FO directly as well, as I have done. If I lived in SJ I would certainly be a STH. But I have to live with a few trips down a year and watching the rest of the games loyally, and typically you'll find me in the in-game threads here during games.
Yeah. I'm in the same boat. I love this team, I've rooted for this team for years. When I'm critical, it's not because I don't love the team, it's because I get frustrated by our idiocy. How many times have we shot ourselves in the foot? We actually hired Wat(TF) as our head coach. Doyle had to know that he was going to sack Wat(TF) after one season. He wanted Kinnear and was willing to flush a whole season to get his guy. So now we have Dom, and we missed the playoffs last season. We've gone out and signed a couple of hopefully important players this off season. If Dawkins and Imperiale contribute the way we think they can, that will be a huge help. But ... We still think that Goodson and Muma will be our starting central defenders. Muma is not good enough any more. Unless he dropped ten or fifteen pounds in the off season and pumped a lot of iron, Muma is just not good enough. We re-signed Stewart too. What a waste. He wasn't good enough last season, and he won't be good enough this season. And we're going to play a 4-4-2 empty bucket. It's awfully boring. It might work though. With MPG and Dawkins on the wings and if either of Godoy or Alashe get forward from time to time, we could have something. We've certainly got better forwards this season than last. But every other team in the league tried to improve this off season too. So ... did we improve enough? I doubt it, but we'll see. And you can't complain that I'm skeptical. I have every reason to be. Go Quakes!! - Mark
#1. He's not apologizing, and you're right, he doesn't need to. #2. Please stop it with the "new members" vs "old members" bullshit. It's disgusting and alienates newer members and fans from posting, and makes older members sound like a bunch of entitled grumpy female dogs. Thanks.
There are plenty of folks who are "newish" to this forum who have been Quakes fans for many years, if not decades. We certainly need new posters and new people getting involved, and I think most of us recognize that. We've lost too many members over the years. Go Quakes!! Go Quakesfans!! - Mark

The Chicago Fire's new jersey sponsor is Valspar A new season and new era begin now.Introducing the 2016 #cf97 primary kit: https://t.co/UTOhwkZCJf @Valspar_Painthttps://t.co/CqGFTV9pmt— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) January 25, 2016 how great would it have been to have the Quakes sponsored by Quaker Oats...
Premature confirmation from a ticketing email: Edit: Someone changed the image, both here and in the email. I assure you that it showed Wondo with a "Sutter Health" jersey. Kind of startling. I copy/pasted an image without realizing that it actually existed on a server rather than just as an image file.
It's still very likely that the San Jose Earthquakes primary uniform design-template will change for the 2016 MLS season. However, for the first time ever in the post-Golden Age, I wouldn't mind it if the primary uniform didn't change going into the new design-template cycle (except for the addition of a jersey sponsor, of course). In any case, that Earthquakes uni in the promo pic looks more complete now. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Likely not the actual 2016 jersey in that screen cap; it was an in-game picture of Wondo from last year that they photoshop the sponsor on. I'm thinking ours will look something similar in design to that Chicago one that got released
The sponsor lettering also looked a bit small in the photoshop job. I'm guessing it's a little bigger than that it real life
