I wanted to start a new thread where we could discuss the makeup of OKC FC's inaugural roster. I'll start with a couple of questions, although I'm not sure anyone will have any concrete information as of now: How will the initial roster be filled out? Will the NASL team poach most of the players from the academy team? Will there be any kind of expansion draft? Will the team be able to lure any expensive players from their current teams?
No expansion draft in NASL, they can sign free agents from other teams, they can buy them (usually not) from other teams, they will hold tryouts and they will sign some foreign free agents, and maybe get some loaned players from MLS/other leagues.
Rayo OKC set to name Ex-Scorpions Boss Alen Marcina as First Coach http://www.empireofsoccer.com/scorpions-marcina-first-coach-43574/
Great to be at the press conference yesterday, and to hear Coach Marcina's passion and vision for what he wants for Rayo OKC
Rayo OKC names Alen Marcina head coach | News OK I talked to one of the owners who told me that they already have 5 players signed. They are just waiting fro NASL approval to introduce them, probably next week? Of the 5 players; All FIVE have played in MLS THREE have National Team experience
NASL OKC getting the personnel together. Should make for an interesting inaugural season. All five players acquired so far with MLS experience. Just want to be competitive this season. Not expecting more from a first year expansion team. Alen Marcina as head coach (looks young & energetic). Has an interesting portfolio. Some signs of championship pedigree... GO OKC!
Michel at least was a leader on Dallas even last year. A bit slow but has a cultured left foot for crosses and corners. Kamara was decent at NY & Colorado. Not bad Rayo. Not sure you'll be here next year but they should be decent in the league this year.
That was pretty cool! I just got off the Scissortail Podcast with two guy, Will and Porter, who just wanted to start something dealing with Rayo OKC. Neither one of them had any experience in doing this type of thing before, just wanted to get the word out. I love seeing organic interest in the team spring up like this. Hopefully our SG will do the same, and keep growing. All of the leadership at Rayo has been super supportive of things like this, but are not orchestrating or mandating anything. THEY want it to grow organically, as well. As a matter of fact they told me to let them know when the next SG meeting is, and they will have the coach come out and speak to us!
Which is better ... to be an affiliate and accept loans of players FC Dallas values, or take on players that FC Dallas has let go?
