The team needs a break. Alexis is pretty burned, and I hope arsenal gives him a few weeks off. Aranguiz should be back next year, and Vargas needs to step up his game in his club. Valdivia needs to be a sub, but has to come in the last 30 minutes, because he still has the skill to open up defenses, but lacks the stamina for a full game. If the attack fails, Chile will suffer as we did this last game. I don't subscribe to the notion that we must change our defenders for taller ones when playing against teams that are strong in the air. Changing our defenders for troncos will directly affect the shape and tempo of our team, and thus the strategy overall. All of this is said thinking that Sanpa will be staying.

Have you even seen Enzo Roco (Enzo Andia, when he was at Universidad Católica, as he afterwards changed his last name), once, to say what you are saying ?

The man (although he is only 23 years old), is very talented and full of skill (no one in his right set of mind would call him a "tronco"). Many coach's, believe that he should have continued being a forward or a midfielder (positions where he started playing at, in U. Católica), but given his height, speed, high ball playing (his 1,88 mts. does help him a lot), and great positioning in the pitch, he happens to be lots more useful for his teams, playing as a central defender. For his current team (Español) he is a starter, since his debut and after 8 games, he has also scored 2 goals (both were headers, which currently has him as the third top scorer of his team).
He would be a perfect complement for Medel, and maybe for our attack as well, specially in set pieces or corner kicks (kind of like Godin for Uruguay whom also is a defender that scores a lot of headers).

But Sampaoli, somehow doesn't like him and never has given him a fair opportunity, to play for our NT.
Only likes to call him for warming the bench.o_O

I saw him play only a few times, and when i did i was not too impressed. I am not saying you are wrong, only that I am not as familiar with him. Who would you take out for him?

I'd play him centrally in a back 3, Jara and Medel on his flanks.. Can't do any worse then Ponce did for Bielsa.

    Good points.

    On Valdivia:
I don't think that the team needs to go through him to score. It helps a lot if the team can count on him, but this will not always be the case, and his batteries run out sooner now than in the past.

I also think that Valdivia can be at his most dangerous when he gives the breakthrough pass before the final assist to a shot or goal (in ice hockey, leagues like the NHL count this statistic as something like a second assist, partly because it demonstrates the ability of a player to see gaps and 'break' play open for the team). This says a lot about his vision, which for me is second to none in the continent, but he is too inconsistent with this quality.

To be fair to him, you are right about the forwards on the night: Alexis and Vargas had a poor game and did not make it easier for him to open play.

    On Bravo:
He is everything you mentioned, but he is too far away from play. When Chile plays teams like Uruguay, I think that the team needs someone closer to the action to neutralise the hot tempers. Leonardo Véliz said something interesting recently:

Like posteador said, he could be played in a backline of three, right in the middle. Of course, he could also play as a centre back in a back four, accompanied by Medel, perhaps, if there's no one else.

I think that Roco is ready. He is already in the big time in a top league. He's learning still, but he's quickly gaining the necessary experience. He's tall, good in the air; essentially, he meets the criteria.

I had hoped that Erick Pulgar would show more, but he is younger (about one and a half years younger), and is being used as a midfielder (on and off) in Bologna. Igor Lichnovsky is the same age as Pulgar; he still needs to break into Porto's 'A' team first.
