100% - the chances that he will play for the German NT = quite high

Really? The kid is 19 already. He's still playing reserve side games at a middling 1.BL team. I don't see him suiting up for Germany any time soon. He will get a call from JK sooner than that unless he knows something we don't about his allegiances.

I think its unlikely that he'll be good enough for Germany. Most of the top German prospects his age are already regularly getting minutes in the Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga. Maybe he'll wait it out until he's 22, 23, 24 just because not everyone thats eventually plays for Germany is playing minutes for a Bundesliga club by 19, but I think its fairly likely that he he won't be good enough for Germany, so we will probably get him, if he wants to play for us and is good enough.

I'd be a bit careful there.

The Germans are not ones to judge players solely on what they've done in youth ranks and I wouldnt be surprised if young players feel they have good reason for holding out.

Klose never played at any youth level internationally and didn't even turn pro until 20. Denied heavy recruitment from his native Poland and eventually made his German debut at 23 and well, you know the rest on him.

Dortmund signed Lewandowski who played all but one season in Poland's second and third divisions until was 20 and signed for Lech Poznan.

I was trying to write a math equation. It didn't come out well.

I meant his chances of playing for the US is whatever his chance of Not playing for Germany, which seems quite high at this point.

But you forgot an important variable into you equation: the likelihood that he's not good enough for the US either

Many dual nationals the US thought would be nice "pick-ups" at one point turned out to non-factor - Hoyos, Hurzeler, Danny Potts (who played for the US U-20s without being eligible for citizenship). Even guys who made it as pros like Jose Torres, Teal Bunbury, Edgar Castillo haven't been or won't be much use

Also if he's waiting it out for his first choice, he doesn't project to be as motivated playing for his 2nd, so you're not going to get near the best of him.

I really feel bad for Bunbury here as he could be playing in important matches with Canada. Same goes for a guy like Bojan who could've easily been playing for Serbia these last 7 years or so instead of being cap-tied to Spain.

That's some nice, broad psychoanalysis right there.

Also if he's willing to post his analysis of a player he's never met on a message board, he doesn't project to care much about you pointing it out, so you're not going to get anywhere with him.

It should practically go without saying, meant to be applied broadly, rather to individuals. It was always a logical theory and has been proven empirically with the U.S. national team. But for some reason there is some staunch resistance to the suggestion anyway (pressure to be p.c.). It's certainly a useful criteria when determining which players to give a chance to first on the borderline. There's not endless #'s of chances.

I don't think its psychoanalysis. Its a fact that we are his second choice. Maybe its a hard decision for him and he'd really enjoy playing for the USMNT (as I'm sure it is for many of the dual-nationals who had USMNT as their second choice), but it is a fact that Germany was the preference and therefore I think its a rational conclusion that there is less motivation to play well for us.

It's beyond obvious that a coach might attempt to evaluate a player's level of commitment to his program before inviting him to join it. I imagine that is the case for most coaches and most players. There might even be tradeoffs made, in which a coach determines that the potential reward is worth some degree of risk. I suspect that some of us might make different evaluations of those risks and rewards if we were picking players. Fair enough.

Or the more likely he'll totally flame out and not be good enough for anybody - like Fabian Hurzeler.

He's 19 and has been more productive in the 3. Liga than Jerome Kiesewetter this season. He may never make it in the Bundesliga but it's early to even speculate on that.

is it fair to say his chances of playing for Germany's full team are diminishing?

You could've said the same thing for FJ.

It doesn't mean Parker won't be a very good player in 10 years.

just a question, not a statement. parker is really only relevant from a usmnt perspective if he plays for the usmnt...so diminishing Germany chances would be a good thing imo....didn't mean it as a slight against him.

Is Parker going to be the next "Wood" or the next "Morales".

Well, considering both Wood and Morales are respected in professional German soccer and are both Bundesliga level talent and professionals who see minutes at a high level most weeks... I'd hope he turns out to be either one.
