Quintero can't play as a cam in the middle. I stand by it and one of the reasons he pretty much flopped at Porto. He doesn't have the stamina like a Lucas Lima or even a Kagawa. He doesn't even have a right foot, he looks more comfortable on the wing. Lucas Lima has no right foot but it doesn't matter because of his skill, Quintero isn't consistent at all. He doesn't have the physicality to withstand challenges in the middle and he has no right foot, I've watched him a ton. A lot of his dangerous situations in the u20 came from wing plays. You showed the exact same goals before and I respectfully disagree. He isn't good enough to be a legit 10. He is closer to playing in the Colombian lg than he is big time European football. I saw people on the Colombian forum saying he was fat and depressed. Regardless macnelly still getting calls while Quintero is playing at a small French side while even saying he wants to go back to Colombia. He needs to move to the wing, quite apparent I wasn't wrong. Is his fitness level going to magically improve? How many chances does he create from the middle?
Quintero when introduced at Rennes: "I consider myself a No.10, a playmaker who moves forward who likes to put his team-mates in the best positions." Basically we are at the same spot as before -- agree to disagree. Until I see him move out to the wing, I don't see the evidence yet. He doesn't have the pace to play outside IMO. MacNelly wasn't even on the CA roster. Quintero isn't getting calls because he's still injured. I could be wrong, but I don't even think he debuted yet for Rennes. Macnelly isn't anymore than a stopgap while other players are injured.
Read into his personal life a little. He's struggling. You should be able to spot this a mile away. When does he put his teammates in the best positions? He isn't creative at all. Colombian fans are saying he has been healthy but he can't get into shape. That's holding up the debut
I know about his fitness. I don't think it's as big of an issue. He's still more mobile than Ganso. As far as any other issues like depression, I don't know anything about it. @J_Mezzy @pepinoiter
Ganso doesn't play like him at all, idk where you are going with that. he needs good fitness or he will play in Brazil or Colombia, nothing wrong with it, his game is far more dynamic than creative. Like I said I don't like arguing people about their fav teams or players. No need to call for back up. I don't like a psg rb it's not worth me debating a psg fan about it, pretty futile. I'm out on a limb with Quintero but I just don't think he is a ten so yea the agree to disagree sums it up well. I'm sure we'll see him in the libertadores pretty soon.
You can also play out left and be an attacking mid especially with 2 strikers like Colombia plays. Point is if I want creativity/playmaking I'm calling James, cardona, and macnelly in that order.
I tagged them to give me info on his struggles. The Ganso point was that Quinteros can still move better than him to get into holes to create. I've seen dynamic players who's fitness dropped as a 10 and still played well. I'm not debating whether he needs his fitness to reach his potential. I agree there. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Libs. He was linked to Fla this summer before he went to France. On Aurier, keep an eye on him during the UCL. I think you're being harsh on him because of last season and I'm usually the harsh ones on FBs.
@lawsonishere no worries about Aurier, I was also really disappointed with him last season. Before he came to us, he was at Toulouse and was phenomenal for them, but for whatever reason, he had some really horrific performances for us last season. It wasn't until the end of the season that he started to turn things around. Hopefully he can keep it up and continue to improve. But yeah, I don't mind if others disagree about him. While I'm here though, it's worth mentioning that Thiago Silva has been our most exceptional and consistent player so far this season.
I saw him look very shaky for Ivory Coast before that's where my doubt of him comes from but that is also a complete mess most of the times so it makes it especially hard to judge a defender there. I watched two psg games in August this year and didn't notice him. I can't wait to watch psg in the champions lg and that's good to hear about silva. The selecao needs him back. I'm not saying desperately but it feels desperate especially with Brazil conceding on set pieces and you telling me he is in excellent form.
Varane is a starter under Rafa. Its been clear Rafa's 1st choice was Ramos/Varane this season but we've had injured Ramos or Pepe so its been a combination of all 4 including Nacho. And I'm not speaking as a Real Madrid fan but as a Brazilian. I don't like seeing our youngsters going to these teams to be "backups" or have players brought in their position and have their game time reduced. Lucas was foolish to go to PSG. In fact, I think now, a season or 2 more in Brazil may have been better for him. Marquinhos is too talented to wait for Thiago Silva to leave or play out of position. But who can blame him for PG wasting 50m on David Luiz just a season( or was it 2?) after they brought him in.
Well, I feel the same way about Varane except we're hosting Euro 2016 in a few months, so it's even scarier to think that he has barely any experience and yet all this pressure to do well and lead the defense. If we didn't have Marquinhos, we'd be absolutely ********ed against Madrid now that Luiz is out for four weeks. Why should other teams get to have 3 top CBs and not us? And Marquinhos barely plays for Brazil, so I'm not sure why you're so upset about it. He barely even featured in the Copa America and he played last night because Luiz got injured. Varane, on the other hand, has been an indisputable starter for France. For what it's worth, I agree that Marquinhos should be a starter. I just don't think it's fair that it's only a problem when Marquinhos is on the bench yet it's not an issue when Real Madrid does it.
I'm not upset. I just want to see players from my country 1st choice at their club the same way you do. I'm speaking as a Brazilian not a Real Madrid ( or any club football) fan. I've been on the Varane over Pepe train since 2013 for what its worth and Pepe is probably gone next summer since he only signed a 1 yr extension and is almost 33. Thiago Silva just turned 31 and is still a rock. I want to see all Brazilian youngster who go to Europe play well, establish themselves as an undisputed starter at a team where they're not seen as a backup, and then eventually make their way over to one of the bigger European clubs. Thats always been my stance on players moving from SA to Europe.
Fair enough. Essentially, I do agree with you. If you go to the PSG forum, half of my posts are complaining about Marquinhos and Pastore not being starters. While I would kind of understand if Marquinhos left, I really hope he stays. He's mentored by two of his countrymen and he seems to have progressed quite a lot in Paris.
