But that's the issue. They don't have the players to adapt. They should and can shoot more, I don't know why they don't . I also agree with the dribbling as long as there is cover. With our exposed defense a lost dribble up field will result in a counter. Without a plan B, a towering presence, these is no one to cross to and we see what we saw yesterday - pass, pass, pass, pass....
Lehmann and Neuer said yesterday that in such games we are missing a target striker like Klose to go for the first post who would by doing so create space behind him. And if we had a player who could play this we should sacrifice one of our fancy midfielders cause otherwise were not going anywhere with this kind of setup - esp not with our shaky defense.
I'm one of Gomez's biggest fans but that ship has sailed a long time ago. Too many years in Loew's doghouse. Volland or Kruse are options but ultimately they're not good enough IMHO
If we had a lewa type, it would be massive for Germany Especially with talent in midfield and forward positions.. Our biggest weaknesses are FB and lack of a true striker.
We always had good strikers but some how they died out , muller , rumminige, voller, klinsman,Riedel , bierhof and klose, What happened wonder if it has to do with our development program ? Maybe they focusing to much on rounding the players to be used in many roles instead of focusing on specific roles ?
One of my coaches back in the day said our generation of players was different cause no one wanted to put the ball over the line but instead everyone wants to become the next Zidane making that crucial deadly pass to a goal. A cultural shift 10-15 years ago maybe.
Every generation has gaps. Look at England - they used to have at last 5 world class centre halves. Now they have none. Instead they have a glut of 9s.
Three connected reasons for this: 1) Overall, soccer has changed from a 2 striker system to a 1 striker system. Under the 2 striker system, you could have 1 or 2 creative players. When switching to a single striker formation, the physical attributes required for the position eliminates most creative players from the mix - most players that would have been strikers under a 2 striker system 2) Because of #1, coaches (specially in Germany) fill up the midfield with creative players - strikers no longer fitting the 2 striker position are wingers and AMs.... (same with all creative players). This approach means that teams play without real wingers so the attributes of the a single striker are not only towering physical presence but you now need them to be also skillful players... making the attributes for a single striker are very, very narrow - you essentially need a Levandowski, Drogba, Zlatan, Diego Costa, Dezco type of player... and those hard to come by. 3) Because of #1 & 2, in Germany, teams can't afford to fill the position with young German players and look for established players from the outside pushing any potential true German NT strikers to the bench or the lower divisions.... so the young strikers need to shine n the lower division for a couple of years and hope to get plucked by BL team that is in the lower half of the table with an opportunity to start...
I think there is a a bit of heuristic going on here. Elite strikers are rare anywhere in the world. In the same way many countries don't have an elite goal keeper or an elite central midfielder. Germany also don't have any elite fullbacks. Or any genuine winger.
Selke, Sané, and Werner are guys for the future. I think our striker "problem" will soon be resolved. Just need to get through Euro 2016.
We need an attacking fullback who can play the way Mitchell Weiser does for Hertha( and did for Bayern at the end of last season).
Pep would have hated this game Mueller was playing narrow as he does these days. Then Ginter is also always cutting in - instead of staying wide. Then on the other side you have Reus and Ozil very close to each other The whole game was so narrow.
