i'd love to see one of our world class players go back to a copa and see how many young kids pick them up for the next season. the numbers would be shocking i think. i love seeing a few of the guys at IU in them still despite being able to have whatever shoes adidas makes now. i also noticed that tommy thompson (san jose) switched out of them this season. i wonder whether adidas wouldn't pay him to wear copas or what the story is.

As a young gun here, I love the Copa. But after trying on a pair to re-purchase, I felt the sole needed to be updated. The upper is still to date my favourite and the best (in my mind) but the soleplate needs an update to better materials to offer more comfort/less weight.

I know I'm going to get shot for saying this, but I would love to see Adidas still make a copa, but with a more modern shape and a slightly updated soleplate. Still keep the conical studs, the high quality leather and the made in Germany craftsmanship. Just change the shape slightly, fix the sizing and update the plastic on the soleplate. I highly doubt that would ruin anything, heck even the MIJ Morelia's had to adjust over the year, but always stayed true to the original.

Interesting point. But how many kids wear the top end boots? Don''t they wear the cheap take downs that look the same but infact are just totally and utterly different? The only thing that is the same is the colour and name. Ok the shape is the same but the upper/materials are wildly different.

I'm guessing here.... but I had assumed that pros don't wear the Ace or X to advertise the top end versions - they are advertising the take downs so that the millions of young kids + teenagers who need to replace their footwear at least once a year will go for the model that looks the same but isn't.

I'd like to see figures on how much total profit Adidas (and the other brands) make on take downs vs top end models for sales to kids / teenagers.

Don't have much input on this, but very good point and argument. Something we 'connoisseur' boot experts forget a lot on.

this never occurred to me. i was a brat and always took my shoe "allowance" and added my own to it if needed to get the top of the line stuff. you're right though, but last i knew adidas still made the kaisers.

I would venture a guess that IF kids and/or their parents can afford the top end boots, they'll get it. If not, they'll get the next best thing, which is the takedown models. A lot of people probably don't even understand the difference between top end boots and the lower tier ones, since they look so similar.

I remember when I was in HS, I worked and would spend all my money on the top end boots and would never settle for the lower tier models. Albeit, there weren't really lower tier models back then. I remember I bought the adidas Accelerators Black/Blue (no rubber elements), had them for a week or so and then bought the Accelerator Predators.

I remember before I could afford Copa's, I had the Kaiser ligas (not to be confused with the Kaiser Liga 5s). They look almost exactly the same as the copas, but they leather above and below the stripes were a bit different. They were full-grain leather, too. Not as soft.

But as a 12 year old, my first loves....then came the copas a cuople years later. :p

i wish i still had my non-pred accelerators. granted, i got them in 8th grade, and there's no way my foot would still fit in a 9. they were one of my favorite pairs.

Totally agree with you. I coached rec / prep teams the past 5 years. I would say that most kids playing on rec teams wear the cheapest cleats. Still, you will have 2-3 kids that are really into soccer or want to be good at it and buy high end cleats even though you know next season they will need bigger ones. When you move up the ladder with more competitive teams and players, you notice that both players and parents are into the sport and would do anything to get that extra edge. I remember one U14 team last year where most players wore CR7 superflys or Vapors....(-:
Many even take it up a notch and have their own Nike and Adidas customized boots.
There is a reason why top end models fly off the shelves...(-:

Well as far as the store I work at goes (and since we only sell soccer stuff take that with a pinch of salt) we always sell a whole lot more of the high-end models than the take downs......even when you account for the kids take downs.

But like I said since we are soccer specialty to we do cater more that crowd.

I still have my HS/college cleats and before I moved in with the fiance, they had a room dedicated just for them. Now they're in a bin. In the garage. =(

But they do still all fit and are in pretty good shape! Once in a while I'll break them out and play in my adult leagues.

They're awesome to be honest. ACE Primeknit is a level above the regular ACE with an immense fit. It's like the Primeknit upper matches the padded heel much better. There's not that locked in sensation some people would like to have, but it's really comfy and moulds a lot better to the foot than the synthetic version. X is also nice, but not as different from the regular model as the ACE.

Does the X still have the heavy heel padding? If so that would be hard to overlook.

Nope, it doesn't. It's a more matte material now with less padding and feels more similar to the material used on the normal ACE from what I can tell. Good improvement for a lot of people IMO although I actually quite liked the padded feel.
    They won't sadly.

Thanks guys. That's a shame... I really like them both but can't justify getting them now.

Interesting. I wasn't a fan of that thick, bumper like feeling the padding gave. I did like the overall shape of the boot though.

PDS released the new Adidas Incurza JR in SG on their website, I think this must be the new line that some of the adidas players have been testing:

Primeknits are available around my area too!

Now, I'm a standard UK8 with all my adidas models, but is it me or do I have to go halfsize down to achieve the same fit for Primeknits?

Tried it in UK7.5 today, and it strangely seemed to fit better. Anyone felt that way too?

    Share your wisdom/thought guys! :)
