I think everyone knew it was a one and done deal. I'm surprised of all the MLS2 teams, Dallas doesn't already have one. Considering they start 5 academy products in MLS already, they obviously have the talent pool.

You are obviously forgetting that their ownership group is pretty frugal. It's not as big of a surprise when you look at how much the Hunt Group does out of pocket.

Oh I get that. But they do pour a ton into their academy as is, mls2 seems like the next logical step.

Completely agree, and for development reasons, they need to have one. Hope they get one soon, but I'm guessing 2017 instead of 2016, but I've been wrong before.

They had talked about one before, but did not pull the trigger. I guess it finally became worthwhile for them.

There will likely be some changes at AZU. Supposedly there is a new 49% owner and I would be surprised if they didn't make a coaching change. Some recalibration may be in order here, and the FCD component is only part of it.

Do we know who the new investors are? Locals?

I do not. My GUESS would be local, but there has been no announcement.

They may be frugal when it comes to bringing in big name players. But It's very expensive to have their academy system them do. And in their top youth teams no one pays.

To stay on topic. Maybe AZ will sign a deal with someone else. Although I guess there isn't too many left until the expansion teams come in.

As he builds his squad for Arizona United SC, new head coach Frank Yallop is looking for two qualities in a player.
In addition to the standard requisite – bringing a level of quality to the side – Yallop is also looking for players who are going to buy into what United is building, on and off the field.

“I don’t want guys … doing the club a favor by just playing soccer at a club. I want them to be attached to Arizona United. … I [told] them if we’re going to do something together, let’s do it right.

“I want this thing built properly and built to last. That’s the plan.”

I don't know if you can get that mindset most places from 3rd division players who are looking to move up. Maybe I'm wrong.

Interestingly, I am looking at Yallop's coaching stats, and for every one of his 5 jobs his winning percentage has decreased from the last. After Chicago, he's now on target for a winning percentage in the teens. :p I have a funny feeling the western conference doesn't need to worry much about AU taking the conference by storm. We'll see how he "builds" it.

I saw the new soccer stadium Grand Canyon University is building - holy cow is it going to be nice. AZUtd needs to explore that (obvious caveats include parking and alcohol, obviously).
