Or to Klinsmannish it: "There are other defenders that are just a little bit better." That should give Watts a boost too.
If I were his agent, I'd be trying to move him ASAP. What value does he have in reality right now? Wow- a few months ago he was the 3rd best player at the U-20 tourney..."come one, come all...see this amazing talent" For his personal sake, I hope he tells TH & PB to sit and spin cause what a bunch of clowns for how they've handled this situation.
WOW - This has to be one of the most unbelievable statements ever from the RFO/PB. There is no way that Shane can be that tired from his international duty. When's the last match he played for the US? How many minutes total has he played in the last six months - both US and Rapids? It doesn't add up to "needs a break." Yes it appears the Rapids have a lot of depth at CB, but the idea that they can be giving a 32 year old journeyman a trial while Shane languishes on the bench is mind boggling. Treating a home grown player who looked to be on the rise for both club and country this way doesn't seem like it would do much in terms of making young players feel like they are going to get a legit shot or for PR. If Shane is sold it sure better be in such a way that he can advance his career and the Rapids get an infusion of cash to upgrade their talent. And if he isn't sold he should be given a shot at proving himself.
I wish they wouldn't say anything then to spew garbage. Listen to the coach and execs's from the other losing franchise, the Rockies, it's the same hackneyed platitudes. I can't decide if they go home thinking they said exactly what was on their minds or they're morons.
Shane's playing time since the season started: 630 minutes in 7 matches for the U-23s 286 minutes in 4 games in league play 180 minutes in 2 matches in USOC play 90(?) minutes in the homegrown game Total: 1186 minutes in 14 matches In comparison 30 year old Bobby Burling has 1148 minutes in 13 league matches (not counting any USOC play) and 29 year old Michael Harrington has 1260 minutes in 14 league matches this season. So apparently 21 year old Shane O'Neill has to be rested when he has equal playing time to the always-starting-despite-being-a-worse-player 30 year old Bobby Burling.
BB getting as much playing time as he is bothers me when - in my perception - the Rapids have several other candidates that are as good or better at his position, same with Watts. Where's Sjöberg now that he's healthy? Greenspan has looked good at CB in his brief time there. Of course there is Moor who is now playing full back and O'Neill who has been relegated to the bench. Plenty of options to make for a good pairing in the middle of the back line. Oh, and perhaps soon we can add Roger Johnson to the list of players that get time but don't look the part.
Dear RFO, Trade Shane. If you can't trade Shane, release him. He deserves to be set free from the ever-growing pile of dog poo that is the Rapids organization. Don't try to extort Shane into silence. When he leaves, he can't possibly say anything that long-time and long-suffering fans don't already know. Don't think that you can trade Shane into oblivion. Just about anywhere that kicks a soccer ball plays better soccer than the 2015 Rapids. Start telling the truth. You aren't good liars. Nobody believes a word that comes from the Rapids PR machine. You aren't successfully hiding anything. We aren't gullible preadolescents. You have a few hours left before the window closes. Find a RB. You have zero MLS level RBs on the roster now, so it shouldn't be hard. The most important upgrade for the offseason isn't RB or a proven finisher up top. It is in the RFO. It's time for a mass resignation. The RFO as a whole is dysfunctional, indifferent to failure, hostile to fans, incapable of assessing talent, lazy, behind the times, and, frankly, just annoying. Go. Just leave. It's long past time to start over at the top and bring in people who actually know the game and give a rip. I don't believe for a minute that the RFO will even read this or care. But it needs to be said.
As a lot of us thought, their was something more then on field performance in his suddenly fall from starting lineup to start the season.
I would absolutely love to see these happen. Go out and find an RB; the whole lot of the office is fired/resign as Josh takes over. Might be worse, probably not though, compared to Ol' Absentee Stan running the Rapids.
Fixed that for you. Josh already influences how the Rapids operate and sits on MLS' executive committee. The Rapids will never be truly successful until the Kroenke family is completely out of the picture. They are cancer.
I completely agree. If they sold the team to someone who cared...best day since 2010 MLS Cup as a Rapids fan!
The only thing I can think of that makes sense is that whatever deal there is depends on Shane being healthy so they're making sure he doesn't get hurt.
The saga now takes us to Cyprus. http://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2015/08/07/shane-oneill-transferred-cypriot-side-apollon-limassol I hope the terms are positive.
Two days after bravo was quoted saying abou the move that "Its all speculation at this point". Please don't insult the fans Paul.
Well, the rumors were true. Shane to Cyprus per Denver Post. "Obviously, I haven't been a favorite this season for whatever reason," O'Neill said last week while waiting for a deal to be done. "Obviously I just want a solution to all of this because the way things have been going lately haven't been great, but there's a lot of factors for that."
I hope they got some money out of this and Shane can actually go and play somewhere...wouldn't surprise me one bit he switches to Irish National Team...one bit at all. Good luck and thanks for the good season last year!
Are you new to this sport? Clubs make statements like that all the time when it comes to selling players. This even happens in the highest levels of Europe. Bravo has no idea what he's doing in terms of building a team, but that specific quote isn't worth burning calories over.
does anyone think we got more then a few penny's, maybe some trinkets and a bag of balls in this deal? Is Cyprus league suddenly a financial power?
You're right but to be fair the whole damn statement about O'Neill was a pretty clear line of BS (resting him because he needed recharging after averaging 50 minutes of competitive soccer a week this season). So it particularly annoyed me.
