Okay so its been a while since the world cup has finished, but I was wondering what were all of your favorite games, and if you had a favorite moment what was it?

    I'll go first:

My favorite game was the third place game: Brazil 0-3 Netherlands. I also loved the Brazil 1-7 Germany game, but the third place match was really exciting because they both started the world cup well, and many people predicted that those 2 teams would meet in Round of 16 and Brazil would win, but I knew Netherlands would knock them out one way or another. Also I was really disappointed when Netherlands was so close on getting to the final but lost to Argentina on penalties, so I was glad to see them end their World Cup with a comfortable win against another great team. Also good way for Louis van Gaal to end his career as the Netherlands coach.

My favorite moment was by far seeing Arjen Robben fake the penalty against Mexico at the end. He dived and was rewarded a penalty. I laughed out loud for the next 2 hours after that, because I liked to see Mexico go out like that, and Netherlands progress. It was a great moment and really funny. Robben was really clever to do that. It reminds me when Fabio Grosso did the same thing against Australia in the 2006 world cup, which I still talk about now and how great the memories were in 2006.

My favorite game was the R of 16 match between Brazil and Chile. Not so much for the match itself, but just the tension in that penalty shoot-out. Two other games that stood out for being unbelievable were Spain v Netherlands and obviously Brazil v Germany.

    outside your realm
brazil vs chile was the best play-wise.
costa rica vs holland was very very boring play-wise but due to the fact that costa rica was such an underdog and that they held out until penalties at such a late stage in the world cup made it exciting to watch after the 80th minute.
    obviously germany vs brazil.
as an Iranian Iran vs argentina because despite having minimal possession, we outplayed them because we created more meaningful chances against them then they did against us, and we were on course to get a point from the finalists, and could have even won if we were not robbed of a clear penalty.
belguim vs argentina was similar to Iran vs argentina, and the ending was highly tense and exciting.
belguim vs usa was amazing play-wise and was the most lopsided game in the world cup chance-wise, even more than germany vs brazil. tim howards save after save made it really interesting.
in general there were a lot of good matches but these stood out for me.

I saw Argentina vs Iran, and I feel really sorry about a penalty rob. I was supporting Iran, not because I like Iran so much, but because I hate Argentina and I hate Messi. Also Iran hasn't joined a world cup for a long time, so it would be cool if they could have advanced. I really hoped Bosnia and Iran would advance from that group, but I knew Argentina would go first.

Out of interest, can you explain your reasons for hating Messi?

Well I don't hate him personally, but what I hate is that Argentina kind of depend on him, although De Maria helps him a bit, everyone depends on Messi. I also think he is way overrated by people, he is not the best player: Ronaldo, Totti, Zidane, Brazilian Ronaldo, Robben, and even Pirlo, I find are all better. Also I find that Messi plays good for Barcelona, but he doesn't play as good when he plays for Argentina. I never liked Argentina soccer team, so thats mostly why I don't like Messi.

    I most enjoyed:

watching Chile finally get their victory over Spain after coming so close over the last few years. Chile deserved it.

seeing Costa Rica play an almost perfect tactical match against Italy, completely shut down Pirlo, and get their just rewards even after being cheated out of a penalty.

Uruguay ridding us of Chiellini and Italy. Suarez is scum, but if anybody deserved to be on the end of his villainy, it was Chiellini and Italy, or Robben and Holland.

I lost so much respect for Robben after this World Cup. He's one of the most talented players in the world, he doesn't need to simulate like he does. The penalty he won against Mexico made me so angry as a neutral.

That was my favorite moment in the whole world cup, I laughed for hours about that. I was so proud of him for being able to actually trick the referee for that, because I haven't seen something successful like this since 2006 world cup.

I shouldn't be surprised that you're an Italian supporter. You won your last World Cup in the same manner.

Yeah exactly. When we did that against Australia. Fabio Grosso and Totti were our two heros in that game vs Australia.

OMG I just noticed now you are australian. How did you feel when Grosso dived in the 2006 world cup? How angry were you?

Italy were a more superior side so I didn't expect Australia to win but it would've been nice to see them do it in a sportsman like manner. Football is not the national sport in my country (Australian football is) and the people here find it difficult to embrace a sport where players dive and fake injuries in the hope of being rewarded. The Italian side of that tournament was horrendous at doing this.

Would it not be more satisfying to win the game's highest honour using skill and hard work rather than bending the rules and attempting to deceive the referee? Don't get me wrong, that Italian squad was full of world-class players, but I find it a little ridiculous that you call dishonest players who dive for penalties "heroes".

Well I think if we didn't do that, we probably would have scored in extra time or won on penalties. Back then we had great shooters and the best goalkeeper in the world, so I really think Australia shouldn't have been complaining as much as they were back then. The reason why I honor penalty divers is because most people that try to do that don't succeed and likely get a yellow card for diving, but Grosso and Robben were successful and were able to get the penalty.

To be honest, I adored that moment more because I wanted the referee to be tricked rather than for Australia to be annoyed. Earlier in the game Materazzi got a red card for just a normal tackle, that I thought wasn't fair, so I was glad to see the referee get tricked.

If you couldn't score with 10 men for 90 minutes I doubt they would've scored in extra time. I get what you say about these players conning the referee but don't you think the game would be more beautiful without it?

How would Italy have reacted if it had been the other way around and an Australian player dived and was incorrectly awarded a penalty?

If it was the other way around, I would be so mad, and angry, unless Italy was able to make up for it, but that wouldn't be possible if it was at the end of the game. Your probably right, it would have been better without it.

The red ruined the complexion and shape of the game sending off Materazzi. Italy would have been on the wrong end of bad officiating like they were in Korea 4 years prior, once more against Gus Hiidink. Australia got into the ascendancy as a result of the red card, Italy had chances left right and centre and would have taken them and gone on to win the game. Your theory that Australia would have won if not for a '' dive '' can and should be used the other way. The send off happened first, it changed the game, had it not, we who were in control would have scored sooner or later. I can't fathom how you biased supporters can't see the only reason why you had hold of the game was due to a debatable sending off. I don't read any comments that Italy were the better team and would have won or would have been ripped off if we had lost because the red changed match.

    Gilardino
    Toni x 2
    Del Piero

Great chances all in the first half.

Quality chances. There was perhaps 1 or two more, Chipperfield had a good one for you. Iaquinta in the second for Italy should have did better too. Dodgy penalty fine. Dodgy red. Don't be biased and say it was a red card and not a penalty. At the end of the day, Kewell was offside in his equaliser vs Croatia and Cahill committed what should have been a penalty straight after he equalised vs Japan which would have ended your campaign right there. Granted you were hard done by vs Croatia yourselves with one goal wrongly ruled out and a bogus hand ball which should have been a penalty in the first half and Simunic staying on longer.

    Don't be biased though, mate.

    Netherlands - Spain 5-1 obviously.

It was nice that after our poor display in the 2010 World Cup final we could come up with such an upset. Nobody expected it or could imagine such a scoreline. Spain were the big favourites while the Netherlands was seen as a country in decline with a lot of unknown youngsters who probably would not make it out of the group stage.

Italy beating England and Germany beating Brazil 7-1. The first 3 minutes was absolutely insane. I wish Oezil made it 8-0 at the end.

Favorite Game(s): Costa Rica coming out of nowhere to beat Uruguay, then knocking off Italy to win the group.

Favorite Moment: Gotze's goal, because I didn't want another WC Final to go to PKs.

Worst moment: The mugging of Neymar. Kind of ruined the World Cup for me.

Most WTF Moment: Suarez and Chiellini. I still can't believe that Suarez actually bit another player in front of the entire world.
