AMSTERDAM – All three teams featuring Americans advanced to the sweet 16 of the NM Cupen away from home on Wednesday night, with Quentin Westberg notching his second shutout of the tournament in a 2-0 victory away to third-flight mites SK Gjovik-Lyn.

The netminder's biggest contribution of the contest came with his side up one at the half-hour mark. A cross from the right wing floated toward the Sarpsborg far corner, but the American was nimble enough to shove the ball over the bar.

Westberg is starting against Rosenborg today since starter Duwayne Kerr is away with Jamaica at the Copa America, where he is doing things like this:

Jamaica is knocked out of Copa America; I don't know if Kerr will come back to Sarpsborg or just stay with Jamaica for the Gold Cup.

Elsewhere, in a duel of American netminders, Quentin Westberg made two big saves in the penalty shootout to help Sarpsborg 08 return to the elite eight following a scoreless draw at Alex Horwath's Brann.

Horwath, a former Red Bulls 'keeper, posted his first career NM Cupen shutout, thanks to a pair of tidy first-half saves and another near the hour. Westberg, meanwhile, pulled off his cruelest robbery of regulation when Brann winger Kristoffer Larsen broke in alone during the final minute of added time.

The Sarpsborg custodian then made huge stops during each 15-minute overtime session – wrapped around Horwath's 104th-minute denial of a curling free kick – before completing his heroics in the 4-1 penalties triumph.

The third goal was a strange one - As Q was coming out to close down a shooter, a defender slid in and took Q out, leaving the shooter with an open finish. Not blaming Q for that one, just saying it's strange ... and on the other three goals, the keeper didn't have much of a chance.

Short lived stay in Norway. I assume Q's going into a good situation at Tours. Otherwise, it would be a little risky leaving considering he's earned a number of starts.

    Edit:

Just looked is up Tours currently has two GK's on the roster both 20 and 18, respectively. So it does sound like Q is, more than likely, coming in to be the #1.

I wonder if they paid a transfer fee.

Looking at his history, he seems to be very comfortable in France. I think that a move back there is a good thing.

New Thread Title - Westberg is Touring or Westberg on Tours.

Looks like he's keeping the "Nordberg" look:

    Some quotes from Westberg

Tours' incumbent starter is a very young goalkeeper named Bingourou Kamara. He turns 19 in October and he's part of France's U19 team. It appears as though he won the job over two older keepers a few months into the last season. If he's really a phenom, he'll be tough competition for Westberg.

@bungadiri Quentin Westberg on Tours ?

He was on the bench behind Kamara for the first game of the season today.

The game at Sochaux ended 0-0, so 2 straight shutouts for Westberg!

Way to go. Is his club a perennial Ligue 2 player or could they fight for promotion?

The're only 5 points off third place, but a really mean defence (second best in the division, conceding 7 goals in 11 games) allied to a toothless attack (9 goals in 11 games) spells mid-table. Select stability or mediocrity according to choice.
