On 26th May Casillas said in an interview that he wants to retire here and that he could not see himself in another jersey, today Florentino said that his wish was that Iker retire at Real Madrid !? So both want the exact same thing and at the end he is still leaving ... i believe that there are a lot of things happening that we may never find out about, i still hope some day in the near future or even after 10 years i will wake up and see a honest interview with Casillas telling us what exactly happened. Florentino words are quite the same as they were back in 2010 with Raul - it is his decision, he is our legend, he asked and we decided to fulfill his wish to continue at another team ... and etc., and etc. Now on Iker he added that the pressure in the last 2 years for him was too big and he understands that he wants to change the team, but i highly doubt this is the real thing behind Iker leaving.
Of course, you ask a legend such as Raul or Casillas the question about retirement and they would have said they would love to retire at Madrid. Reality then catches up and there are going to be players better than you especially when you are getting old. Regardless, Casillas HAD to go. He was not going to play second fiddle to Navas and playing players because of their legacy and not skill, was what brought us those 3 baron years.
A true RM legend and one of the best GKs ever. I'm ashamed of how he was sometimes treated, especially by the fans in the stadium but he'll always be one of the greatest ever, nobody can deny that. Thank you for everything San Iker!!
Florentino Pérez: "Casillas asked us to leave." Real Madrid's President spoke and bid farewell to Iker Casillas. "Casillas asked us to leave, we wanted him to retire at Real Madrid but he received an offer from FC Porto and wanted to go there. We always had a good relationship and many reports published throughout these days are false. I have a lot of affection for Iker, contrary to what some people report. He always led by example and nothing changed." He also criticized the fans' whistles towards Casillas during the last few years. "I've always said that I don't understand why some fans whistle our players. Our players deserve respect and they are part of our history. Casillas deserves respect from our fans. Those who called Casillas "mole" will miss him in the future." Pérez admitted that the club could've arranged this ceremony way better. "Some people always try to take advantage from anything to hurt my position or hurt Real Madrid, no matter what happens. But this doesn't mean we've taken care of everything well. It's true that we thought about doing this ceremony with our players, but they had to leave to Australia."
At least its some closure. Iker will be back and I actually feel a lot better even though that press conference was half ass. Iker actually sat through that crap as Flo was defending himself. It really shows that Iker is not bad of a guy like most people like to point him out to be during this whole mess. Would have loved for him to stay but we have to move on and we need a GK. The world is laughing at us and lets sign up De Gea and take care of business.
Happy for you guys you've finally got rid of him. Never thought this day would actually come, he clearly overstayed his welcome by 3 seasons. If not for Ramos he would've been remembered as the clown who cost you guys La Decima. Excellent shotstopper in his prime but was obviously going to decline as his athleticism & reflexes waned. Wrote off your chances before the season started but this is a gamechanger especially if DDG comes. Much better on crosses, nowhere near as error prone & would give the backline alot more confidence & assurance.
If not for Ramos I think Real would have been remembered as the clowns with the impotent world stars attacking force. Not scoring goals was a much bigger issue in that final than bad goal keeping.
good for that era to be over. that team was overrated and won zero trophies. just a bunch of has been individuals with no team chemistry.
This mindset always amazes me. GK makes gigantic error or lets in easy goal and it's the attackers fault because they couldn't conjure the opposition GK to make the same error? In what realm does that even make sense?
Addition by subtraction. He was a shell of the player he once was, clearly overstayed his welcome & created factions in the dressing room.
Because for a goalkeeper to be able to make that crucial mistake to let in a goal unless it is a total howler there usually have been a whole chain of mistakes, in midfield, in defense etc. the goalkeeper is just the last guy in the chain. So his mistake is the one that caused that goal, huh? There is nobody else to blame if the attack doesn't score. Can't score against Juve? Guess what, you're out.
With Iker gone, this could be a lineup soemtime next season : navas-danilo-pepe-varane-marcelo-kroos-modric-james-ronaldo-benzema-bale........a real madrid team with no spanish player...never thought I would see that day...
Uh, that CL final situation you were talking about was a howler, probably one of the biggest in recent CL finals. It just goes right back to my point. You accuse the attackers for not winning the game when the game is 0-0, with extra time they break down and we win. You remove responsibility from the GK for making an absolutely horrible mistake (howler) which had he not, the game would still be in our favor. People that think like you mystify me.
You convientely left out our iconic, SPANISH captain. Not to mention that you left out Carvajal who will probably be the starter for most games. We'll be fine. We have enough Spanish players in our squad, some of them key players (Carvajal, Ramos, Isco).
I didn't mean the starting lineup. It is possible that we could have a squad sometime out on the pitch with no spanish player. Danilo for Carvajal, Pepe or Varane for Ramos and James for Isco is not unreasonable by any means and in case of injuries/subs etc...was just wondering if we have ever done that before..?
