Iker Casillas will forever be a Real Madrid legend. The guy personified many great qualities that every madridista should strive to embody. The last 3 years were a sketchy patch on his illustrious Madrid career, but I will forever remember the absolutely mesmerizing reflex saves he made time and time again to keep our team in big battles. He has done so much to make this club proud, both with club and country. It's heartbreaking to see him leave on such a low note, but I will be grateful for everything he has done for the club. Best of luck, San Iker.
Best keeper for Madrid I've ever seen, best keeper in the world in his prime, and top 5 I've ever seen playing in my lifetime, but he shouldn't have been starter for us for at least a season. I hope he enjoys his stay at Porto and returns to the club in another capacity in the future, but I'm looking forward to watching de Gea play.
BWIN Spain just posted the time for Iker's farewell. They're a sponsor of Real Madrid so they definitely have the inside scoop. It'll be 1pm Madrid time. Iker #Casillas se va al #Oporto. As tradition goes, next season when we play Porto in Europe, Casillas will save a couple of penalties from Ronaldo or something.
I can't help but feel the goosebumps running through my body right now knowing Iker won't be here anymore. Never thought I'll see him not wearing whites. Wish him all the best on his new journey and hope he can win some silverwares with Porto. I feel like my avatar right now. Thanks for everything Iker.
Isco confirms Casillas' departure from Real Madrid: "It's sad that he's leaving, we will miss him."— Real Madrid Info ³⁵ (@RMadridInfo) July 9, 2015 Isco: "Iker deserves a great farewell. I don't know anything about Ramos."— Real Madrid Info ³⁵ (@RMadridInfo) July 9, 2015 I wonder what is taking them so long to make the official announcement.
I bet Iker was just trolling everyone by making them think he was leaving to Porto only to be like naa I'm staying suckers, maybe he just wanted to feel loved again. I wish Iker would just retire and be Benitez assistant coach or something along those lines.
Iker is a lot smarter than people give him credit for, the club will not pay him what he wants and De Gea now won't sign as well as Navas injured means Casillas will start for us next season. I got to give him props for being able to get what he wants, he is control right now and Perez is probably like WTF do I do now.
Perez never knew what he was doing. He's so used to throwing money at problems and having them magically disappear he doesnt know what else to. He still thinks Bale was a good transfer, a theme park on an UAE island was a good idea, and selling the naming rights to the stadium is the best means of raising revenue for berserk renovation that involves wrapping it in tin foil.
Can't fault Perez for a contract his predecessor initiated and can't fault Casillas for wanting what he is legally owed regardless of if its for the good of the club or not.
This is a good post because, although i have zero idea if all these reports are true or not, in principle I doubt all those calling Iker "money grabber" and " mercenary" would walk away from money legally and contractually owed to them in the real world, but apparently players should live in fantasy land, Madrid isn't broke as far as I know and are paying , IMO , less deserving players huge sums of money, I just don't get that angle or line of thought.
Iker has done more for our badge than Bale, Kaka, or arguably anyone on this squad ever has. Just give the man his damn money and let him leave with the respect he deserves. Making him seem like a greedy money grabber will be horribly beneath us. It's not like we're a poor club, in fact we enjoy flaunting our money and pride ourselves on breaking our own freaking transfer WORLD record. Sheesh!
Its still a lot of money to pay someone who doesn't even start( assuming Navas is given the #1 this season) let alone not even on the squad. And we can't forget the club is run a specific way and works hard to maintain the books hence our overall low spending these past 2 seasons. When someone came in, someone else went out for a high price. Just because we have the money doesn't mean it should be spent. 30me to pay off Iker, then another 30/40 for De Gea plus wages is taking up a huge chunk of our summer spending with no return. If this is true, Iker is clever. He did it the night before his tribute and announcement probably thinking Perez would be forced to pay up.
For all we know, he's not even planning to leave. Marca is spreading this story like wildfire, but the man himself hasn't uttered a word. You don't dress up a ceremonious farewell without preparation, and as far as I'm concerned, there aren't any official statements declaring he's going. Only what the press is saying.
I always loved it how Diarra's reaction on the 2nd save was like he just witnessed Superman take of his clothes and fly away, he just couldn't believe that happened lol.
Iker is staying. If the club really wanted him to go, you guys really think they are negotiating and can't come to terms? Obviously Flo doesn't want him gone and only the fans want him to. This so-called "can't agree on an exit deal" is a smoke screen.
Casillas and Real Madrid to re-open negotiations today, but it will not be easy to find an agreement. http://t.co/mMiXid1WTA— Lucas Navarrete (@LucasNavarreteM) July 10, 2015
