As pointed out on Twitter, Revolution vs. Independence in the next round. I hope they have fireworks for that one.
Sounds like Charlotte has an ambitious ownership: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...llowing-orlando-city-scs-path-hope-future-mls
Fluff piece, tons of clubs would all like to follow in Orlando's footsteps, wish they used switchbacks instead, but come on claiming a first year franchise has the same following as a club that has been around for years? Weird that story was written by a Timbers MLS "beat" writer though.
Looks like Berner is back in Denver to rehabilitate. He'll be out 4-6 weeks according to this report: http://www.charlotteindependence.com/independence-loan-goalkeeper-from-nasl-side-carolina-railhawks/
Beginning at 7:30 ET, you can watch the Independence take on New England in the Open Cup (and first inaugural American War for Independence derby?) on YouTube: Haven't seen a lineup, but my guess is Alvarez will start. Calvert, if healthy, usually comes off the bench.
Interesting to note that Charlotte are one of two remaining non-MLS teams in the Open Cup and the sole USL team. A nice feather in their cap.
I think its $15K for the last team from each level standing, MLS excepted. If multiple teams are eliminated in the same round as the last team they split the money. So winning the PKs last night not only got the Cosmos into the next round it also won them $7500 (They get the whole $15K instead of splitting it with Atlanta).
Charlotte seems to be picking up momentum. Topped Charleston last night, 2-1. Newnam and Calvert started. Looks like Alvarez DNP.
Badji loaned to Charlotte. http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2015/07/rapids-loan-dominique-badji-charlotte-independence
Does anyone know if Haitian NT defender Mechak Jerome gets regular time with Charlotte? It looks like he has featured for them in at least a few Open Cup games. I expect that Jerome will start vs the USA tonight. Side note: I was also surprised to see Steward Cues (former Rapid) of the Atlanta Silverbacks on the Haiti roster. I had forgotten all about that guy. Traumatic memories tend to get shut down like that.
