i had an awesome time talking to everyone on here during the WWC. This was really the first time I've wondered out of the England thread to another one and I'm glad I did it. Loved the back and forth banter between each other whether I was involved or wasn't because several of you guys are funny to me. Of course it helped a lot that England did very well. Never thought England would play 7 games even if I knew they could beat Norway and Canada. I wonder if the players felt the same way. The worst part was of course the own goal, but I'm completely over it now because we would go on to beat Germany or lose 5-2 to the USA. You guys helped me get the full emotion of the France Germany game as I was away for that one and relied on you for it. Anyway I just at wanted to say thanks for being awesome and hope we can keep it up for the Olympics and Euro's.
I wish everyone was showing your level of commitment, sportsmanship, enthousiasm and respect on this board. I wish for an equally awesome Olympic tournament too.
Well, thanks for being here. This was a more lively place than 4 years ago and it helped my overall enjoyment of the tournament.
It was a great way to pass time and nice to wake up to like 12 notifications and I'm away for the day.
Thanks. But the WC is over... This avatar is actually a reference to Animal Farm, which I just read and detailed in the What are You Reading books thread.
I want to say thanks as well; I appreciate the discussions in this part of BS since they are generally respectful and thoughtful. I'm sad to say that real life got in the way of me posting much during the knockout rounds, but I love these forums and was happy to see a good number of new posters coming in for the WWC. Newcomers, stick around for the Olympics...its not that far away!
Sorry for the off-topicness... I have read Animal Farm too, in the (far) past, but I can't remember how your avatar is a reference to it.
It was also cool that my cousin (who I'm spending the summer with) didn't care for soccer that much before the WWC started, is now into it. He wanted Switzerland to win it all, but at least he had the 10-1 result over Ecuador to rave about. I wish they beat Canada so they would've played England and then all bets would've been off.
The animals create a flag for the Farm: a green background with a horn and hoof. Since the book is a critique of the Soviet Union, I can only presume it was modeled after the Soviet hammer and sickle.
