I totally agree . They did the same crap last time. Would rather invite a serious team next time even it's from Asia or Africa.

The gold cup starts 4 days after the Copa America final and club teams don't have to release players if it is a concacaf team that is invited. Concacaf also prohibits teams from sending A teams most years. It's not like Mexico didn't draw chile.

It's not Mexico fault. They would send a A team but concacaf stop them.

OK, then. I was reading about it. On Wikipedia it's ambiguous. They said CONCACAF was considering lifting all restrictions on what team Mexico could send, but there is no update on whether or not they did.

He played for Internacional. He was on the squad that defeated Barcelona in the World Club Championship along with Pato. We've seen him. He's a limited player.

It's ridiculous when I have to hear Luiz Adriano scores more goals in the Champions League than the Ukrainian league. On the surface, it sounds like a feat. When you look into it, he scored all 7 goals vs BATE Borisov. The year before, he scored 1 goal against Real Sociedad at home. I guess he couldn't score vs legit teams like Moyes' Man Utd and Bayern Leverkusen. He faced Bayern and Bilbao this season -- 0 goals. In 2012/13, he scored 3 vs Nordsjælland. He couldn't score against Chelsea, Juve or Dortmund. I guess I'm just biased.

Unfortunately I don't think we have the quality to do that.

Interesting: today's Mexico vs. Ecuador result ensures that Brazil can advance with a tie against Venezuela regardless of any other result. Ecuador finished with 3 points. So a tie sends Brazil to the quarter-finals as one of the two best third-placed teams, since it would ensure that Venezuela would finish behind Brazil since they have the same goal differential but Brazil has one more goal scored. Therefore regardless of the other match between Peru and Colombia Brazil would ensure at least 3rd place, and would be ahead of Ecuador.

So, Brazil no longer needs to beat Venezuela to advance. A tie is sufficient.

So, of the three main stars in the continent, Messi, Suárez, and Neymar, two are out due to disciplinary procedures, and there's just Messi left. No fun. It's detrimental to the prestige of the tournament.

Maybe, hehe, but it will be hard to hack and bite out of being beaten by Messi, Di Maria, and company.

How about Jamaica? Are they also playing a B team?

Would be nice if the Gold Cup was every 4 years and staggered between CA, like 2009, 2013, 2017.

It's good to have Mexico and some other Latin American country participate, but with a full side.

With Mexico's defeat, Chile and Bolivia have both advanced. All that they'll be playing for, next, will be to determine who will be first placed. A draw favors Chile. For Bolivia to win the group they must win.

I'm not sure how motivated these two will be, for this relatively minor advantage. Maybe we'll see a boring game with neither team trying hard, in order to preserve physical form for the quarterfinals.

Argentina and Paraguay have also advanced with today's result, since neither can be any worse than one of the two best third-placed teams.

@Brasitusa Even though I pointed the "positive side" of this situation, you can see from my earlier posts that I agree with you that there was an agenda against Neymar in this tourney. Only a small fraction of the fouls he received was called; he was verbally abused by players, linesmen and the crowd; Both yellow cards were BS; he was hacked left and right, with no cards for his aggressors... The referees were biased, to say the least. To top it all, 4 games was a harsh decision as I said, 2 games was enough IMO. But I don't think it will end now. It will be like this in the WC qualifiers, in the WC, in some games in Europe (depending on the ref). Even as a fan of Neymar I must admit there is an aura of hate towards him, partially due to his own actions, but also due to ignorance or pure ill will.

It won't stop. So Neymar has two options: keep taking things personal, lose his mind every time and collect more and more cards; or somehow learn to ignore it and overcome one more obstacle on his career. It's his main battle: unlike other Brazillian legends he has no problems with alcohol, partying (well he likes to party but not to the point of affecting his performance), obesity or constant injuries. His main enemy is himself, if he masters his own feelings then he will overcome whatever anyone throws at him. He has the talent to do so. It's not easy, but all things in life that are worth getting are hard to obtain. It is not fair, but it is how it is.

Our team also has two options: we give up, blame things on the refs and keep things as they are; or actually try to have a little pride when wearing this legendary yellow shirt, learn how to play together and take the reins.

Win or lose, I want this team to show grit, to fight against all odds. If we don't learn how to play without Neymar, 2018 will be a replay of 2014, one player can't win a WC alone. Let's take this opportunity.

Actually depending on combination of results Brazil can advance even with a single-goal-difference defeat to Venezuela. We'd still have -1 goal differential while Ecuador has -2. We'd need to be the third placed team, so, in the Colombia and Peru match, a winner would have to exist, and the loser would have to be defeated by 2 goals to remain below Brazil in goal differential.

    So, Brazil advances if:

A - We beat Venezuela by any score, regardless of the result of Colombia vs. Peru
B - We draw with Venezuela regardless of the tied score (0-0, 1-1, 2-2, etc.), and regardless of the result of Colombia vs. Peru
C - We lose to Venezuela 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, or 4-3, but either Colombia or Peru wins the other match by a 2-goal difference
D - We lose to Venezuela 5-3 but either Colombia or Peru wins the other match by a 2-goal difference, with the loser if Peru not scoring more than 2 goals, or if Colombia not more than 3 goals (we'd still be third placed on 5 goals scored, and we'd advance over Ecuador by also having scored 5 goals against their 4).

A defeat to Venezuela by 2-0, 3-1, or 4-2 or any difference of 3 goals, or a defeat to Venezuela by one of the above scores in situations C and D but with the Colombia vs. Peru match resulting in a draw or a victory by 1 goal, or a victory by 2 goals with the loser if Peru scoring 3 goals (a 5-3 defeat) or if Colombia scoring 4 goals (a very unlikely 6-4 defeat) eliminates Brazil.

I'm not sure if I got this right, but at first glance, that's what I think it is.

Since we'll know the result of the Colombia vs. Peru match by the time we take the field against Venezuela, we have pretty huge chances of advancing.

The problem starts in quarter final, I think.

Lets just make the captaincy open for grabs. Let the Alpha of the group claim it.
