Only Portugal's chances have been even clearer. Brazil might have had a PK if Gabriel had done a little better there. Instead he embellished and made the ref not even consider it. Now suddenly it's back and forth.
Marcos Guilherme with a burst of speed... then when he passes Brazil loses the ball, he goes in way to hard to get it back and is lucky not to et a red. Not even a yellow. This ref has been poor overall. No big calls to make, but lots of little things that don't suggest any consistency. Well actually, there was one big call, Brazil's goal called back for a "perigo de gol" (translation: WTF did he call?) foul.
Well, PKs... not sure if I'll feel more or less guilty if we win this way (as opposed to scoring in 90 or 120 minutes), but let's find out.
Good PK by Andreas. Brazilian GK commits too early. Luisao with a bad PK. Worst PK ever by the Portuguese #7. 1-1 it stays. Danilo 2-1. Portuguese player #9 with another poor PK. 2-1 Gabriel 3-1. Santos with a skier; Brazil wins!
Brazil win PK shootout 3x1. Portugal kept missing as badly as they did in regular time. Brazil missed first but only missed 1.
The Portuguese players are so so bad at finishing; can't even finish from 12 yards out. This is an embarrassing display by Portugal.
After normal time is up, I started rooting for Portugal who played better than us. Unfortunately they were eliminated. I believe we will play the final match of this championship.
Wow!! Mali came back to upset Germany on pks and Serbia beat the US on pks, and Senegal downed the Uzbeks!!
There is a reason for that. Let me put this in terms that hit close to home. Imagine having a coach like AvB clash with players and you barely qualify for the Champions League. In the next season, you leave your two biggest stars off the team, and the owner gets mad and fires him with two weeks to the start of the competition. Then you have Mourinho come in forced to use the group that AvB had called. Not to mention, we are missing two key players from the group that was called up. At least this team has been fighting, which wasn't the case under the ex-coach.
I was hardly saying this is a death knell for Brazilian football or anything, but it was still terrible. Although, compared to some of those US penalties, the Portuguese are masters of the art. The penalty the US LB took was........just wow.
Understood. My point is that it's not really a quality issue. Our best quality is left out by our horrible ex-coach or injured. Combine that with the lack of preparation thanks to CBF's late decision and you saw the result. Not to mention, Portugal is a quality side. We didn't look that bad in other matches.
Friends, now it's official Gerson (18 ya) and Kennedy (19 ya) will play for Barcelona. And to think that Gallo left the Gerson outside the world cup in New Zealand and Kenedy had to be cut by having to be operated for appendicitis. Against Portugal we missed Kenedy a lot. http://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbo...3/gerson-y-kenedy-dos-joyas-bajo-control.html http://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/gerson-atado-para-barca-4273730
Well as a Barcelona fan glad to hear that!! As a Brazil fan I fear that if we live by the penalty shootout we will die by the penalty shootout!!
Considering the state of this team a month ago, Rogério Micale deserve credit for getting us this far. Even if we don't win this competition a top 4 spot is a good achievement. I would give him the Olympic team job if it wasn't already taken or assistant to Dunga. I like the fact he waste no time making adjustments.
