Our road to the WCQ will start June 8th and 16th vs Bermuda. Let's hope we don't complicate ourselves thinking this will be an easy match.

    AGUANTE GUATE

It's official, Guatemala and Bermuda will play the 12th and 18th of June, since the FEDEFUT asked Bermuda if they could change the date since Guatemala will play Uruguay on the 5th of June

    my notes so far

    Jerez
    Lalin - Enoc - Hernandez
    Avila - Marquez - Aparicio - Cincotta
    Pappa - Contreras
    Ruiz

    raining

    Lalin bad pass
    Lalin foul
    Contreras lost ball
5’ Clear chance for Ruiz (Contreras), shot wide to far post
    8’ Avila bad cross
    10’ Aparicio bad pass
    11’ Cincotta bad cross
    11’ Lalin foul
12’ Great chance created by Cincotta, feeds Contreras from left, Contreras shoots weak and a couple of feet wide
    14’ Pescado lost ball
A lot of possesion for Guate; Bermuda can’t string more than a couple of passes in a row, but they do seem to get behind our DMs with relative ease
16’ Long ball from Lalín, Pescado volleys high and wide.
17’ Bermuda’s #17 gets a ball behind Lalín and heads on goal, but Jerez contains
    17’ Pescado offside
19’ Marquez loses ball in the center, Hernandez blocks ensuing shot
19’ One touch C=combination Marquez - Pescado - Cincotta, the latter shoots high and wide
22’ Great play by Bermuda’s #17; gets past Enoc, Lalín, and Hernandez, but his shot is weak
23’ Another shot by Bermuda, it was going wide, but Jerez kept it alive and then got fouled by the attacker
24’ Another long ball from Contreras to Pescado, shot weak to the GK.
25’ Pescado incorrectly called offside on a through ball by Pappa
27’ Pappa shot wide from 25m off a corner kick
29’ Marquez bad cross off a free kick from the right flank
30’ Through ball from Contreras to Pescado, he can’t get to it before the GK
    32’ Avila bad pass
Hernandez and Aparicio the only players I’ve seen try and succeed at recovering balls.
34’ Avila’s header off a Contreras CK is blocked

36’ Two harsh fouls in a row suffered by Cincotta as he was getting by his marker. Cincotta has been very active in attack on the left wing.
37’ Rocket by Aparicio from 30m just high
38’ For the third time a Bermudian player gets in the box with a controlled possesion, Lalín has to backtrack to clear it.
41’ CK by Contreras is headed wide by Enoc off the near post
42’ Aparicio high shot from 25m
    43’ Bermuda #17 wide shot from 30m
    Halftime: 0-0

This game reminds me of those 2 Belize games that Guate had such a hard time with in the last WCQ.

We need to add numbers to the center of the attack. Either Pappa plays higher up or Pescado needs to be subbed out for a player who can cover a larger area, e.g. Arreola.

Should have scored a couple of times already.

    Second half
48’ Cincotta steals a ball in the center, takes of and is fouled. Ensuing FK by Pappa lands at Cincotta’s feet who blasts it, GK saves, Lalin heads the rebound wide.
Pescado working the mind of the opposing players.
51’ CK by Contreras is headed in by Pappa but goal is not given due to an alleged foul by El Pescado (!)
It has stopped raining and Guatemala is looking better in attack.
52’ Marquez CK deflected by Enoc to the far post, Lalín can’t get there and the ball goes wide by a couple of feet again.

55’ Excellent ball by Marquez is cleared before Pescado gets to it. Ensuing CK is headed by Avila, Lalín, and Pescado consecutively in the area, the latter putting it away. Goal not given due to alleged offside (!)
58’ Dangerous counter by Bermuda is contained by a superb tackle by Hernandez as the last defender.
60’ Contreras sets up Pappa who switches it to his right foot and shoots wide from the top of the box.
61’ Marquez CK cleared to the feet of Cincotta who blasts it wide from 25m.
Game should have been about 5-0 by now by account of the chances missed and the goals not given by the ref.

64’ Great run by Hernandez who gets past a few defenders before sending a bad cross.
66’ Contreras fouled on the left flank; ensuing FK by him is deflected by el Pescado onto Lalín who just misses the ball from very close range.
68’ OUT Jean Márquez, IN Carlos Mejía
71’ Pappa receives a ball in the center and from 35m he beautifully chips it over the GK and to the crossbar. Aaaaargghh!!
72’ Pescado can’t control a ball at the PK spot in between 3 defenders.
73’ Cincotta fouled on the left side 30m away from goal. Pescado takes free kick, blasting it to the top left corner, saved by the GK. 74’ Ensuing CK by Pappa is too long and then Cincotta makes a great play to maintain posession. Another cross by Pappa from the left finds Lalín’s head and then Ávila can’t connect properly.
75’ OUT Marvin Ávila, IN Minor López
76’ Great through ball to Hernandez who crosses low and the GK makes a great save.
76’ Fantastic lob by Pappa to Campollo who assists Pescado who scores. Goal not given due to another dubious offside.
79’ Cuilapa Mejía gets past his marker on the right, crosses to Campollo but the GK gets there first. Running out of time.

82’ OUT Moyo Contreras, IN Kendel Herrarte
A sporadic attack by Bermuda ends with a low cross to Jerez’ hands
83’ Weak shot by Pappa from 35m
85’ POWER OUTAGE at the Mateo Flores. Freaky Friday.

After the 3rd disallowed goal, the NBC Universo commentators said that Bryan Jimenez had reported to the CONCACAF and Interpol that 2 known match fixers had arrived to Guate a few days ago. Looking like the refs may be in on a fix here. Specifically the line judge

That's really the icing on the cake to an already abnormal event. The refs need to be investigated. However, a 1-0 or 2-0 lead isn't much at this point. Guatemala will need to get a win on the road to get out of this round.

    Match resumes after 20 minutes.
86’ long ball to Campollo whose header goes wide as he collides with the GK
87’ Nice combination from Pappa to Pescado to Herrarte to Mejía who crosses to Cincotta who can only head it to the GK’s hands.
90+’ in the 4 min. of stoppage time, Bermuda marks well and Guatemala can’t get through. Herrarte escapes one last time on the right and crosses to Campollo whose close range shot is blocked. Mejía is taken down in the PK area… good luck getting that call. Pescado gets a couple more balls inside the area but can't do much with them. Frustration for Guate as the match ends. Joy for Bermuda’s coach and players who hug each other in the middle of the pitch.

Any scoreline that's tied with goals with pass Guate through. Only a 0-0 will take this to extra time

Correct. However, we should play to win. If we play to a draw, we will lose.

I DVRed the game and missed the last few second due to the power outage. My prediction contest had 18 people all of whom predicted Guatemala to win. I predicted 2:1 and everybody else predicted a win by at least 2 goals. If Guatemala had won 1:0 it would have been good for my prediction.

I'll second that. Lalin ni tiene toque, you can tell the difference in play from Mo and Enoc. Avila kept having shitty passes and turning the ball over.

    And once again Marquez sucks.
