I am not sure why the Canadians are supposed to cheer the USA - do we cheer the Canadians? Looking forward to today's game...

It's more of a one-sided rivalry where for the most part, US fans either are completely oblivious or support Canada because "why not?". They're our neighbor. Ambivalence is rare. Meanwhile, it has been played up much more in Canada as a "us vs them" thing and there is a feeling that the US has wronged Canada.

    Fearless prediction (I'm always wrong!)

    S0l0

    Klingenberg-Johnston-Sauerbrunn-Krieger

    Holiday

    Rapinoe-Lloyd-Press

    A-Rod - Leroux
Morgan and Wambach come in about minute 60 if offensive help needed. A-Rod and either Press or Leroux out.

If defensive help needed, Boxx, comes in for Pinoe.

Heath or Rampone or Chalupny or Brian maybe get in the match for a few minutes each

    US 3-1

Objective: win but don't wear down Morgan, Wambach, Pinoe, and Lloyd. Lloyd can go 90, others are subs or subbed out.

Should Canada go out (not to the US of course) and the US remains, I wonder if the Canadians will adopt the team.

    here
We don't dependably, lustily, boo them.

Btw, nice sleight of hand. No one said anything about cheering.

The Winnipegers we've met are very friendly and pretty laid back, so I wouldn't make any negative assumptions about who they'll root for. I'm for the US and Canadian teams -- between the two, I'll probably root for the US, but I'd love the Canadians to win the whole thing.

I doubt a lot of Canadians will be at US group matches since it seems Americans have mostly bought the tickets. But generally, we will be rooting for the other team and will start to boo lustily when the US falls behind.

If we're going to boo any individual player with any ferocity, it will be Leroux and second would be Wambach. Hope Solo's troubles aren't really on the radar for most Canadian fans or just viewed as typical American celebrity behaviour.

No way I'm rooting for Canada! If US get knocked out I'm rooting for France to take it. Canada booed Syd the kid when she scored that one goal on their "turf" and they made such a ruckus when she shhhhhh'ed them. Better believe she "shhhhh'ed" you! How else do you think she's going to respond? Boo herself off the pitch and say "hey guys you're right, I'm a traitor".

Benedict Thomas! The whole friendliness laid back thing is just a ploy. You're like Patty Hurst....succumbing to their brainwashing. We need to extract you from Winniethepoohpeg stat!

wouldn't be a bad strategy...we need pressure on the US Soccer system..overseas isn't close enough to home, so those countries have no affect

but, if US was not considered the best team in North America, that might get some heads rolling

Alas, I never want it to come to pass.

Only US tactics deployed today by Ellis: play physical and press high, we will score off turnovers or crosses

How many center mids do I have? 4, okay all of you play, just pick a spot..tallest goes first

Subs? I'll drop my panini player stickers on the ground and pick them up. subs are in that order.

what could have been..had he been allowed to work the full cycle

I'm just wondering how many times I'm going to say Holiday's name and an expletive in the same sentence tonight. Hopefully less than usual. See I am an optimist.

This used to be my attitude, and still is for the men's team and other sports besides soccer. But the women's team lost all my respect with the 2012 Olympics. I would never root for them. The only reason I want to see them advance is so we can be the ones to knock them out. :D

If it was me coaching, I'd start Press up top with Syd and have Brien start on the right wing. Brien is in fine form and I suspect she'd do well. Besides, based upon what we are seeing today, I'd want to save Abby for Nigeria, as they clearly can't defend set pieces and the air.

I should have said most. Probably beginning with the Leroux saga and then culminating with everything during and after the Olympics left a very sour taste that they won't back down/away from. I wanted them to lose every game in this tournament. I never could have imagined myself pulling for China 16 years ago.

Evidently, Canada is public enemy number 1 for me on BigSoccer.

maybe Ellis thinks we get an early goal and only plays Wambach for the first half?
