I knew he was half argentine but still he doesn't strike me as a very good coach, but even if he is, you don't have the players.
On One thing is Emelec in a domestic cup another is the National team. He is not the best coach for this team that is already touched by Federation troubles. It is not coincidence that Felipe Caicedo, Antonio Valencia, Michael Arroyo, Joffre Guerron are not in the roster. (Don't be so naive and tell me its fully because of injuries in the case of Valencia and Caicedo)
FEF president is corrupt. Chiriboga Sr. won't allow Guerron to play for the national team because he refused to sign his son Chiriboga Jr. as Guerron's manager. Chiriboga called out Michael Arroyo blaming him for Ecuador not passing the first round in the world cup so Arroyo doesn't want to play for that man. As for Valencia he demanded to get pay for the qualifiers some money that Chiriboga and the FEF owed and never received. The national team is a mess and it is divided. The new coach is just Chiriboga's puppet.
I don't think playing at home is an advantage in NT tournaments anymore. Brazil was the host in the WC 2014, and they failed in semifinals. Argentina was the host in the C.América 2011 and they failed in 1/4 finals. Chile was the host in the C.América 1991 and we failed in the final stage. And many other examples..
Well it depends. I don't mean winning the tournament but I am talking about in the group stages. Once you get to the further rounds than your right but in the early rounds it can be. But also keep in mind Brazil lost to a MUCH better team than them, and Argentina lost to Uruguay only on a penalty shootout which is luck. Mexico is not a better team than Chile, so I think home advantage will give Chile an advantage in the group stages, but otherwise not really.
