That post responding to aimer, in my humble opinion, more than balanced for any sins you could commit.

why are mods disabling members' posting powers on threads regarding the FIFA scandal, for "bringing politics" into it; isnt the whole scandal ABOUT politics? baffles the mind, really. then they say blatter is corrupt!

no point. the mod knows what he is doing. and i commented on this in the thread (see post 135 in this thread for the link), instead of responding the mod banned me from that thread.

@bungadiri is more fair than I am so if you want to understand his actions, I suggest asking him.

you are just saying that to brush us off, for i know that is not true. or perhaps you are too critical of yourself. i am asking him right here. @bungadiri

he can pm me if he wants. but he wont respond unless you tell him to. plus, what is he going to say? it will just be a repeat of what he posted "dont post political stuff." i know mods have to draw the line somewhere but i think bungadiri is subjectively choosing to draw the line much closer in this case, only because there have been so called "anti-american" messages.

plus, i think one thing he did was outright wrong: he banned me from a thread that i made one post in, and that post was me "asking him" as you are suggesting now.

The problem is that you've decided to use the FIFA threads as Politics Forum, North. You've been asked more than once to stick closer to the topics to which the threads are dedicated. When you failed to do that in the first thread (the NYT article thread), where you got a lot of leeway, we banned you. You got less leeway in the other two threads, because it quickly became obvious that you were simply moving your schtick to those threads. Call it persistent infringement.

I have no problem at all with someone challenging the default interpretation in those threads (that the inidictments somehow constitute a triumph of the forces of purity over corruption). If you want to argue that what we're seeing is a new phase in an an ongoing struggle between more or less equally corrupt, politically motivated factions, then go right ahead. It's a viewpoint worth hearing, if it's argued with any attention to the facts at hand. But that's not what you were doing. You were spending far too much time trying to wind people up by throwing whatever piece of US history you could come up with at the discussion. As I noted elsewhere, some leeway in that direction was given because there's a natural counterpoint to be made to the claims that the US was the only country in which Sepp's empire could have been challenged, but you didn't stop there. You turned that into an independent argument about US history. That's not what those threads or that forum are for. And it's your own fault that you've been banned from the forum that's dedicated to those conversations because of persistent disruptive trolling.

So you've been blocked from responding to the threads in question for one week. If you want to tell me that you'll limit the scope of your comments to matters pertaining to FIFA then I'll consider shortening that. But you've got to do better than asserting that this is all political, with the implication being you get to say whatever you please without making any substantive case for the connections you're claiming. For example, if you want to argue that the US is using the case against FIFA as an arm in its efforts to destabilize Putin, then you've got to do better than asserting it's all about regime change and then trying to shout down, as ignorant or part of the problem, anyone who chooses to engage that argument from the other side.

while i appreciate that you took the time to write all of that, as i expected, it was simply a longer version of "i subjectively decided that you crossed the line." if indeed you feel that, and are not just using it as an excuse to censor anti-US comments, then, since this website runs on a dictatorial model, i will have no trouble abiding. however, if you really did it only as an excuse to censor anti-US comments, then that is unjustified use of power. it is too hard to tell which it is.

but i will say my point on the issue: i dont think i turned it into an independent argument about US history. i simply made 2-3 posts at most regarding US history, which were all clearly linked to the case at hand. at no point did i show any intentions of posting only for the purposes of turning it into an off-topic discussion. if you read the threads closely, you will see that those who were responding to me were the ones who are guilty of doing this, because they could not handle the "anti-US" vibe of my posts (which, again, were not made with the intention of being "anti-US;" it is not my fault that US' track record on these matters is rather unethical). so perhaps, out of fear of my posts causing the thread to turn into an off-topic flamewar, which is not the same thing as me posting for the purposes of creating a flamewar, as a mod, you decided to ban me from the thread to alleviate the problem. i have seen this action undertaken by mods on this website for over a decade. quite frankly, i do not think it is the correct course of action. it is akin to closing a thread entirely when there are a few bad apples posting in it. the person/people who start something with good intentions should not be made liable for the outcome. mods should not be taking a "shortcut" by banning the "source;" they should instead go after the individual elements who make individual harmful posts. if people cant control their emotions and respond negatively, they should be punished, not the individual who brings up a point. this is contrary to freedom of speech. the same thing happened in the politics forum which is why i am banned there. i am not saying you are the only mod who does this, i just think that in order to progress freedom of speech and enhance the customer experience on here, perhaps these measures should be reviewed, and accordingly altered.

It's not that hard - he just explained the issue and you either believe him or you don't. Sometimes people really are honest and decent and tell the truth. But either you believe him or you don't and not sure what anyone can say or do aside from letting you be right that will change your mind.

I'm amazed at how many people with good intentions come to this thread. If I had a daughter, I could safely allow her to walk naked among you all since the intentions are so good.
