Holy crap Jose Maria Marin was one of the Fifa execs arrested today as part of the Fifa sting. They were arrested at their hotel in Switzerland.
Maybe he organized it or corporate with it. Kind of hypocritical for the US to be making these charges when the American government is run by legalized bribes.
FIFA Web site reads .... "FIFA is fully cooperating as injured party in the actions by Swiss authorites"
I just want to know if people now are ready to jump in the bandwagon of CBF wrong doings? Or do we now need them to go to jail for 20 years? Remember That contract which last week people talked about it with disregard, said the journalist did a bad job and that it proved nothing. It's part of the investigation. And by the way traffic sports.. they are named that way because that's who funds them, drug trafficking from Rio.
Loretta Lynch just mentioned the 2010 World Cup, the 2016 Copa América Centenário, and even the Brazilian NT. Soccer corruption meets the seniormost law enforcement agencies of the United States. I do not envy those who were arrested.
i hope they nail Greg Dyke of the English FA, he accepted a £20,000 watch and `had to give it back` but what did he do to earn it in the first place? They should look at Platini as well. I`m starting to like America even more than I already do, way to go FBI you rock dudes.
These arrests are not over bribes, it's over money laundering. See if you make the donations open where the public can follow who's giving money to which candidate it's ok. Problems here is that nobody really looks at who funds most of the superpacs of course, but that's the idea, since it's open it's ok to have the "legalized bribes" Fifa's case is straight up money laundering problems, if you take bribes and the money comes from nowhere it's an issue. The only reason why the US is involved it's because of the banking aspect and the "fight against terror". Meaning they don't know where the money comes from (terrorism/drugs/other illegal activities) so they put a stop to it. Really as simple as that.
This guy should read the files the DOJ already released... they are not investigating the contract as a bribe, but as payments made in order to evade taxes and launder money. It's not a bribe scheme guys, it's a money laundering scheme.
Nike contract with Brazil was mentioned. Didn't see anything about that Saudi company. Plus, FBI wouldn't care about who picks the players for Brazil.
The contract was mentioned based on the payments made for the contract. the DOJ doesn't care about who picks the players and where the World Cup is played either. They are in this for one reason only. To stop the money laundering.
You're probably right about the US involvement. Exactly, it's hypocritical if bribery is included ... "The PACs are required to release the names of donors, however, a technicality in the disclosure rules allows donors to remain anonymous for months. Disclosure can be completely circumvented by PACs that create affiliated nonprofit 501(c)(4) organizations, which are not required to release the names of donors."
we were discussing it more in terms of being morally wrong or not. And how having said clause shows the morality of CBF is non existent. Nothing about being illegal, just immoral
This was long overdue for Marin. This is the same guy who stole a medal from a Corinthians player before taking over as president of CBF. Please, please, clean house at CBF. I'll lead the USA chants at Copa America next year if they can come through.
CBF has no morals ... and that's news ? Actually you can include the whole world of football. We were discussing if what's written in the contract actually gets applied and how much it has influenced selection.
the contract is too vague, it can have little influence to complete influence. All depends on who is arguing (paying) for the influence.
Oh what a lovely day! What great news to see last night (late here on the West Coast). Would be sweet if the Swiss investigation gets Blatter but that's just hope right now. Same with current CBF directors. Going to be fun reading everything all day today. Long term, especially looking forward to the potential for some of these people to flip and try to save themselves by naming others. Especially sweet that Marin was arrested.
I guess it explains why Chuck Blazer was so vocal a few years ago. He had already flipped. And people thought he was not corrupt himself
