Have to give the FCE a lot of credit. raising attnendance by 1,000over the last two seasons. Continued steps in Making Clarke a better venue. The addition of the new turf without football lines makes a difference.
Matches on CityTV in Edmonton opposed to the SN 360 in which many people do not have.
Partnership with Alberta soccer stretching the FCE into Calgary as well as building a real Academy system.
Of course becoming a winning franchise by adding some young players not on the MLS radar. No Coincidence that the new pitch, better attendance, and better local coverage has added to the on field success.
Hoping that CSA and the NASL can execute a plan to add clubs in cities like Hamilton with the stadium and owner in place.
As well as getting into Calgary where the Flames LP could add an NASL club to their stock of teams.
With new USLPro and NASL clubs able to build a basic soccer stadium from anywhere between 3 million to 15 Million the Flames spend much more on reno's for Saddledome and McMahon. Calgary already has a minor league baseball stadium renovated in 2007 which only the Dino's baseball team as its only current tenant with no minor league teams currently existing.
Victoria as well draws big for a PDL club and already has a stadium with several capacity set ups.
Once the NHL gets secured in Quebec City both CFL and NASL clubs may be likley to follow. The only game in town their for the last two decades have been dominated by a local ownership group for Amateur Junior Hockey and CIS football. Once QC gets its taste back for being a Nationally reckognized club in the NHL, CFL and NASL may not be too far behind. With both sports and leagues being much less expensive to run and build a stadium that both clubs can use than the NHL club and its 400 Million dollar arena.

Eddies Sign El Salvador Youth International Tomas Granitto:

NASL's FC Edmonton announced that they have come to an agreement with El Salvadorian midfielder Tomas Granitto.
“We’re very excited that Tomas has shown interest in us and that we’ve come to an agreement,” said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. “We’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen from him. Tomas is a terrific passer of the ball and I think he’s a player that will keep us in possession of the ball in the upcoming season.”

What's up, Eddies? An NASL Noob here to say "we of Jacksonville, FLA are playing you soon (April 4), and we can't wait for the match!" If you come down, buy seats in the Club Section, since this particular match is to be held at our NFL stadium (EverBank Field) and not our "home field," which at present is a smaller, adjacent minor league baseball park. Early April weather here is gorgeous, and golf and sport fishing, kayaking, beach walking opportunities all abound.

Also, we Armadans do not yet have a sub-forum of our own, so I may stop by to read and comment with you.

Nyassi Set to Sign with the Eddies

FC Edmonton announce today that the club has come to an agreement with Sainey Nyassi for the Eddies 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) roster. Nyassi will join the club for the next season pending ITC approval. As per club policy, the terms of the contracts are not disclosed.
“I am excited about Sainey coming to the squad,” said FC Edmonton’s head coach Colin Miller. “He’s had a good career in MLS and he’s attack-minded and has great pace. He’ll be a great addition for us in our attacking options and I think he’ll be a great asset to our team.”

Oskar Hauksson has spent almost the entirety of his career in Iceland, barring one season with Norway’s Sogndal. He won several domestic trophies with KR Rekyjavik, including league championships in 2011 and 2013 in the Úrvalsdeild (Iceland’s top division), and has played in Europe’s elite competitions in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
For the midfielder, it was time for a new challenge. He’s found it with the North American Soccer League (NASL) and FC Edmonton on loan from the Icelandic club.

Interesting that he talks about the NASL gaining positve reputation of sorts.
While the Southern NASL teams is Florida may be looking at players from Central America/Caribean. Canada having a similar climate to a country like Iceland could begin to forge a good relationship.
Iceland ranked in the top 50 in the world at 37 just 6 spots behind US at 31 now. Mexico as well is out of the top 20 at 21.
Have to give FCE tons of credit. From some very humble beginnings back in 2010 they have carved a niche. Mkaing Clarke Stadium look more like a soccer stadium, TV deal with City, Interest in Fort Mac with the 127 million dollar project and stadium for two FCE and Two Esks games planned over the summer. talks of a new stadium. Expanding and partering with Alberta Soccer and CSA to expand into Calgary which will be looking at expanding to its own D2 level soccer club

NASL average attendance last year was 5,500 so if FCE can maybe get their attendance over 4K/match then I'll be duly impressed.

Clarke Stadium only has a capacity of 5,000, or slightly more. So averaging 4K will be a very tall order. They need a few sell outs to be sure, but they are in talks with the city to expand the stadium and make it more of a soccer specific venue.

    Let's hope!

With the preogress FCE has been making across the board a 4K average should be very attainable.
Continuing to make improvements to Clarke each year is steadily making it more of an SSS type venue. Pitch improvements for the players and seating for the fans.
Being a big part of the Fort MAC opening festivities this summer which include two FCE matches. One being vs the SA Scorpians in what is being dubbed as the Wood Buffalo Cup set for July 75th. The second vs Ottawa being dubbed as the Canadian Rivalry on AUG 2nd. Prior will be the Northern Kick Off classic CFL ESKS pre season game, June 13th, followed by season CFL opener vs the Toronto Argo's June 27th. As the Argo's home game all expenses for both teams will be covered by the Regional Municipality
Both CFL games Nationally on TSN and FCE matches on CityTV EDM.
All 4 will be on a Sat or Sun.
This is all a lead up to hosting the Western Canada Summer games Aug 7-15th.

As for FCE i could see the definite Annual Canadian Rivalry game at SMS Equipment Field at Shell Place for sure.
Calgary Foothills FC has made the move to the PDL as a step to a pro club. I could see An FCE vs Foothills FC Provincial rivalry match as well being added to the annual schedule of events as well being a planned scheduled friendly on a weekend in June.
Foothills are talking USL as their potential Pro League. With the USL going D2 same as NASL hopefully the Calgary Flames S&E will get involved and partner with the pro side, much as OSEG did with the Fury, and join the NASL to create a league and provincial pro rivalry with FCE.
As for the CFL, Toronto Argo's current situation has them with limited home dates at RC and likely similar if BMO is to happen. At least their current Pre season game is at Varsity Stadium on the University Campus. With the backing of Shell Canada a possible Argo's payday could see them at SMS at Shell place vs EDM for their pre season game. As part of an annual series of the Canadian Rivalry vs Ottawa, and profincial friendly rival match vs Calgary Foothill FC.

Eddies midfielder Jones ‘epitome of English soccer’

    http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Eddi...lish+soccer/10953083/story.html#__federated=1

He made his first-team debut in 2005 under the guidance of legendary English coach Sir Alex Ferguson against lower division English club Barnet in the Carling Cup. Jones played in Manchester’s 4-1 win alongside current FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique and Italian national team striker Giuseppe Rossi, whom Jones still considers the best player he played with at his age.

Almost a decade later, Jones found his way across the Atlantic Ocean to FC Edmonton, where he has become a featured player. The Eddies are taking full advantage of his talents, making him the emphasis of their recent campaign to expand their brand and draw new fans.

FCE did have a crowd of just about 5K for the WED Amway Cup match vs W'Caps. Amway Cup looks to be a big draw for FCE, especially vs and MLS side like W'Caps.
NASL prime game time is SAT prime time starts. Were fexible having both Ottawa and FCE with Sunday afternoon games do to football conflicts.
Mentioned early was that FCE is not feasible to mazimize attendance on SUN at this point. Would Fri or even Thur night games be a better option at his point for NASL matches?
If both Junior football teams could come to an agreement with U Alberta similar to Western and Beefeater in London then the football to socer lines thing would be eliminated

I beleive it has to do with sharing the field with two JR Football teams. Although they PFC has not started yet I would just guess they chose to make sunday their Day and not switch from Sat to sunday.
I only now this from what I have read when they put in the new turf and remove football lines now for soccer.

I wonder how much longer Jamaican Lance Laing will stay. He is really good. The news about Minnesota and Ibarra got me thinking that players like Laing can't stay in Edmonton much longer.

Also, eighteen hours and forty minutes of travel time, give or take.

So, Puerto Rico FC, eh? Wow. That's a brutal road trip. It will be worse for an NASL west coast club. (Thinking distance and time here, and also I live on the west coast.)

And with FCE doing well at the end of last season, what happened this spring season? Ouch.
