The only game in town their for the last two decades have been dominated by a local ownership group for Amateur Junior Hockey and CIS football. Once QC gets its taste back for being a Nationally reckognized club in the NHL, CFL and NASL may not be too far behind. With both sports and leagues being much less expensive to run and build a stadium that both clubs can use than the NHL club and its 400 Million dollar arena.

Nyassi Set to Sign with the Eddies FC Edmonton announce today that the club has come to an agreement with Sainey Nyassi for the Eddies 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) roster. Nyassi will join the club for the next season pending ITC approval. As per club policy, the terms of the contracts are not disclosed. “I am excited about Sainey coming to the squad,” said FC Edmonton’s head coach Colin Miller. “He’s had a good career in MLS and he’s attack-minded and has great pace. NASL average attendance last year was 5,500 so if FCE can maybe get their attendance over 4K/match then I'll be duly impressed.
Clarke Stadium only has a capacity of 5,000, or slightly more. So averaging 4K will be a very tall order. They need a few sell outs to be sure, but they are in talks with the city to expand the stadium and make it more of a soccer specific venue. Let's hope!
With the preogress FCE has been making across the board a 4K average should be very attainable. Continuing to make improvements to Clarke each year is steadily making it more of an SSS type venue. Pitch improvements for the players and seating for the fans. Being a big part of the Fort MAC opening festivities this summer which include two FCE matches. One being vs the SA Scorpians in what is being dubbed as the Wood Buffalo Cup set for July 75th. The second vs Ottawa being dubbed as the Canadian Rivalry on AUG 2nd. Prior will be the Northern Kick Off classic CFL ESKS pre season game, June 13th, followed by season CFL opener vs the Toronto Argo's June 27th. As the Argo's home game all expenses for both teams will be covered by the Regional Municipality Both CFL games Nationally on TSN and FCE matches on CityTV EDM. All 4 will be on a Sat or Sun. This is all a lead up to hosting the Western Canada Summer games Aug 7-15th. As for FCE i could see the definite Annual Canadian Rivalry game at SMS Equipment Field at Shell Place for sure. Calgary Foothills FC has made the move to the PDL as a step to a pro club. I could see An FCE vs Foothills FC Provincial rivalry match as well being added to the annual schedule of events as well being a planned scheduled friendly on a weekend in June. Foothills are talking USL as their potential Pro League. With the USL going D2 same as NASL hopefully the Calgary Flames S&E will get involved and partner with the pro side, much as OSEG did with the Fury, and join the NASL to create a league and provincial pro rivalry with FCE. As for the CFL, Toronto Argo's current situation has them with limited home dates at RC and likely similar if BMO is to happen. At least their current Pre season game is at Varsity Stadium on the University Campus. With the backing of Shell Canada a possible Argo's payday could see them at SMS at Shell place vs EDM for their pre season game. FCE did have a crowd of just about 5K for the WED Amway Cup match vs W'Caps. Amway Cup looks to be a big draw for FCE, especially vs and MLS side like W'Caps. NASL prime game time is SAT prime time starts. Were fexible having both Ottawa and FCE with Sunday afternoon games do to football conflicts. Mentioned early was that FCE is not feasible to mazimize attendance on SUN at this point. Would Fri or even Thur night games be a better option at his point for NASL matches? If both Junior football teams could come to an agreement with U Alberta similar to Western and Beefeater in London then the football to socer lines thing would be eliminated
I beleive it has to do with sharing the field with two JR Football teams. Although they PFC has not started yet I would just guess they chose to make sunday their Day and not switch from Sat to sunday. I only now this from what I have read when they put in the new turf and remove football lines now for soccer.
I wonder how much longer Jamaican Lance Laing will stay. He is really good. The news about Minnesota and Ibarra got me thinking that players like Laing can't stay in Edmonton much longer.
