So this tournament will begin within 12 days, what do you guys think of Argentina chance in this tournament? We came to this tournament after strong performance in recent Sudamericano.

Argentina coach Humberto Grondona has announced his final list of 21 players for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The ‘La Celeste’, who will be facing Ghana, Austria and Panama in the group stages, have a squad that is dominated by players from River Plate. Striker Giovanni, son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, leads the list of five players from River.

Grondona’s final squad also has four players from the European leagues - Tiago Casasola (Fulham), Maximiliano Rolón (Barcelona - Spain), Ángel Correa (Atlético Madrid) and Emiliano Buendía (Getafe).

Argentina are scheduled to move camp from their homeland to Tahiti for a one-week period (from May 18-25), where they will play a double friendly against their hosts before leaving for New Zealand, five days ahead of their World Cup opener against Panama in Wellington.

The Argentina under-20s face Ghana’s Black Satellites on June 2 and complete their Group B campaign against Austria on June 5.

    Argentina under-20 final squad:

    Goalkeepers:

    Augusto Batalla (River)

    José Devecchi (San Lorenzo)

    Augstín Rossi (Estudiantes LP)

    Defenders:

    Emanuel Mammana (River)

    Tiago Casasola (Fulham - England)

    Facundo Monteseigrín (Lanús)

    Rodrigo Moreira (Independiente)

    Lucas Suárez (Quilmes)

    Midfielders:

    Daniel Ibáñez (San Lorenzo)

    Nicolás Tripichio (Vélez)

    Andrés Cubas (Boca)

    Leandro Rolón (Vélez)

    Alejandro Romero Gamarra (Huracán)

    Forwards:

    Sebastián Driussi (River)

    Maximiliano Rolón (Barcelona - Spain)

Ángel Correa (Atlético Madrid - Spain)

Driussi could be out after being savagely pepper-sprayed and attacked by Boca Juniors fans on Thursday.. Clarin had mentioned he'd be unavailable for a whole month. Although his recovery time is not officially confirmed, he hasn't been able to train since the incident and is currently hospitalized.

If Clarin is right regarding how long he'll be out for, he will unfortunately miss the U-20 World Cup because of some idiots.

Also, I'm not quite sure why the article you quoted mentioned that Simeone "leads the list of five players from River", when he is arguably the least promising of the 5, but ok..... :whistling:

Anybody know anything about the kid from Getafe? Should've called up the kid from Parma, Mauri.

I stumbled on that article last night on google news and it reminds me that this tournament is on horizon so I just post it. I'm not actually familiar with most of this kids since I'm not able to watch their weekly games but I watched 5 matches from Sudamericano including the final and I thought they did well.

They should be aiming to win the whole thing. Casasola has not played one minute of competitive club football this season.

If Driussi is missing well.....I agree about Mauri SM. If eligible they should get hold of him. I think having played for Italy u17 but still eligible for us. Aside from the defence it's a pretty physically small team. Mamanna and Batalla should stand out again.

Yes, he was always in the squad, but the unexpected meningitis he developed has unfortunately put his presence at risk.

He just left the hospital after being there for nearly a week, and is now undergoing the repose phase (laying in bed all day, hasn't trained since before the Boca game -- his latest activity).

It was originally mentioned by Argentine newspaper Clarin that he would be out for a whole month and therefore would miss the WC. We'll see.. I know there is still some time left before the tournament, but his other River teammates Simeone, Batalla, and Tomy Martinez have already left for New Zealand, while Mammana will join them in a few days after River's Libertadores game vs Cruzeiro today.

Lol, we can only hope the 2005 scenario where we lost the opening match and then went unbeaten but its very unlikely. Now we have to win next 2 matches, They should sack Grondona ASAP once we fail.

Agreed. Shocking result. Tahiti! It's like losing to Liechtenstein, Malta or something. Looks like Argentina U20 are vulnerable in the air.

Nobody cares they lost to Tahiti, just like nobody cares they played the national team a day or so later and Argentina won 4-1. No news of that? Okay. Thanks Zahzah.

First match is 2-2 against Panama. Correa scored both goals but the team gave up the lead twice. I think Ghana would be the toughest in the group stage.

The other two teams in the group also ended with a draw. We stays on top of them since we scored more goals.

Still a piss poor effort. This team should be disposing of teams like Panama with ease. Let's hope they wake up in the next game against a team with more pedigree and physicality like Ghana.
