Pereyra will be left on the bench... theres absolutely zero chance Pirlo will not start the 2nd leg of a champions league semi final.

They would then go above us in the coefficient for the standings, but not by much. Likewise, if Bayern won, I believe they would be really close or surpass Spain momentarily for this year.

I disagree. He's a liability on defence. He can't cover the centre backs at all. With Pogba likely back, Pirlo won't be needed.

For the next leg Pirlo should not start whether Pogba is back or not

    Vidal, Marchisio, Pogba
    -----------Pererya

    If Pogba isn't ready

    Vidal, Marchisio, Sturaro
    -----------Pererya

The chances of a healthy Pirlo not starting are between 0% and 0%, with a margin of error of 0%.

Madrid is 0-7 all time in champions league knock outs when they have lost the first game.

You're delusional if you think Pirlo won't start that game. Pogba hasn't even played since his return and has only been training a day, no way he starts next week. And saying that Pirlo is not needed is the stupidest thing i ever heard

the only question in my mind is if Allegri will go with a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-1-2 again

and i know Pirlo will feature in either formation.

I think we'll probably start with the 4-3-1-2 and then switch to the 3-5-2 as needed

I'm wondering where all the Pirlo detractors are when we win games simply because of one of his free kicks or a brilliant long ball?

In any event, I'm very proud of these guys. I think we've surpassed what we could have reasonably expected this season; and we have every chance in the world of getting to the final.

It would have been very easy to get discouraged when they equalized (against the run of play); and I was really worried when they hit the post. However, we collected ourselves and continued to take the game to them. Well done to the boys and Allegri.

It will be interesting to see how Allegri lines up in the second leg; but you have to believe he will line up with the 3-5-2, sit back and play on the counter. That's been the m.o. thus far in the CL games. And we have to give it to Allegri who has proven to be a better tactician than Conte was.

If we play a good game, I think we go through. I can't wait until the next leg.

    Dear Juventinos,

I've accepted that we are out. Without Modric our midfield is lost. Please for the love of God, do not let FC Midgets win the treble. I'll be a Bianconeri for the final.

    Cheers

Alright. And when a Pirlo defensive lapse costs us a goal, I'll come back right here and call you out.

Regardless, sublime game by Messi. Such a treat to watch him in this day and age.

    Serious post coming up...

Barcelona looked good vs Bayern today and if you go through, I think it's in your best interest to play Barca in the final.

1 - You have nothing to lose because no one will expect you to win.

2 - Its in Berlin and both Pirlo and Buffon will be super motivated to win another trophy there + no home field advantage for Bayern and if they're knocked out by Barca the crowd will most likely be pro Juve.

3 - Allegri has historically done well with my weaker Milan vs Barca in the past.

And of course...no one expects you to win.

Pirlo did let Ronaldo slip through but the real culprit was Chiellini on that goal. He let go of Rodriguez to go after Carvajal (?), who went wide when Evra slipped. Evra was not able to recover to get to Rodriguez, so Bonucci shifts left. Rodriguez puts a quick volley into the now open space in front of the goal where Ronaldo waltzes through unmarked. Pirlo should have picked him up but the break down started with Chiellini.

    understood

feel free to follow the Sporting board if you ever want to follow our games (our forum is pretty active in comparison to Benfica's or Porto's)

Good luck in the return leg.

Seriously? That's good to hear. Every other football forum I've ever visited, Porto is always the most active Portuguese sub-forum.

I'm glad there are Sporting fans around. Imo, it's an historic club that's always overlooked and under-appreciated.
Cheers. We'll all be hoping for a good match, regardless.

Agreed. It won't change my stance on this though. The midfield has to be more active in games like this. The days of Regista's controlling big games are over. It works in the league against most sides because most sides don't have the quality to press against Pirlo/Xavi/Insert Regista here. Nowadays it's all about mobile midfields that can link up play, press and track back. Schweinsteiger is one exception to that, but even most of the time he plays in an advance role because of the way Guardiola sets up his formation.

Whipper snapper and Italian in the same sentence? ARE YOU ENGLISH OR ITALIAN! HAHAHA.

Nah, I'm just analyzing what I've noticed watching football the last little while. Even Barca of all teams that relied on Xavi in his regista role don't use him anymore (part regression but also because tactically, it stagnates the team and slows them down). Rakitic, a box to box player replacing Xavi, allows for a more fluid, faster attacking game. When Xavi played regularly. Those were the games Barca had 80% possession and only like 5-6 chances on goal. Whereas today, they and IIRC, 13 chances but it was equal possession. I can't be the only one to have noticed this.

    Who is Xavi? Only kidding.

Juve's strength is depth in midfield. But you just don't replace a world class player like Pirlo and expect everything to go smoothly. If you don't think Pirlo has not been a key for Juve in this Serie A and CL run, then I am not sure what team you are watching. Is it necessary to compensate defensively for Pirlo. Yep and both Conte and Allegri have done so. You don't expect Pirlo to be this box-to-box midfielder although as the stats show, he covers more than enough ground. Not many players understand and read the game as he does. Last year, we get past Galatasaray in that last match. Pirlo would understood that late with only a draw needed, no point charging forward on a shitty pitch. The young Pogba did not understand that. The foolish Conte should not have put the inexperienced player in that position. When Pirlo was out during the season, we had trouble controlling the tempo. You can only run up and down so many times. Smart players know how to slow the pace when necessary. Pirlo also knows when to speed it up as we saw yesterday. On our first goal, Tevez was left wide open because Real Madrid cheated thinking Marchisio was going to play the ball to Pirlo. He put it forward to open space and Carlitos did the rest. There is more to Pirlo than just when he touches the ball.

Have you not ever heard that expression? Why do you keep calling me grandpa? Did you do something I did 20 some years ago?
