As a UNC fan I am going to hate that Duke is getting another title. Coach K has adapted with the times he is recruiting coach Cal style no more senior heavy white boy teams.
Ppl really think Kaminsky can stop Okafor?? Lol I know Kam got some nice footwork, but Jahlil ate his food earlier in the season and is a much more smoother version of him, his footwork is outstanding. This will be a repeat, 10 pt spread, Winslow n Jah too dynamic.
Bird is arguably a top 10 player all time? I don't think he has that in him personally. Speaking of comparisons, Dekker does remind me of Keith Van Horn.
The regular season is a competition for a conference title ring. I don't see that as meaningless at all. I'd muc rather win my conference's reg season title and have a memento to pass down to family members after I'm gone than win the conference tournament in an upset over the reg season champ and get skull-dragged by Kansas or somebody in the first round. The conference tournament is meaningless IMO, unless you're an undefeated team trying to stay that way or a team on the bubble that needs to win the conference tourney to make the Dance. The postseason fate of most teams has already been decided going into a conference tournament. It's about nothing but money, especially in the small conferences like the SWAC. Small conferences need to scrap their conference tournaments and send their reg season champs, as they've proven over the season to be their best team. I do think the whole seeding thing and the Final Four!!!111 hype is overdone. Seeding... look, you're there to win a tournament. Doesn't matter if you lose in the first round or the final, as only one team out of 66 goes home happy. Same with the Final Fourz... UK and MSU didn't "Make the Final Four", they lost their semifinal games. Again, if the quality of play has been affected recently, it's only because the NCAA and NBA colluded for so long to prevent NBA-ready talent from leaving school ball as soon as an NBA GM decided that they were worth paying. CBB should never have had this much hype to begin with.
We won't know until he's spent some time in the NBA. But yeah, Bird's a hiiiiigh rung on the NBA Legend ladder. Every time I've heard that name this week, it's reminded me of this... May as well start calling it the USS Kentucky, I suppose...
It's hard for me to tell if these guys are really good or if the standard has gotten so low in college basketball. I mean Louisville looked awful offensively so a guy like Kaminsky who can hit a jump shot looks like Michael Jordan.
Wisconsin just had 5 white guys on the court before subbing why did I notice that and it made me feel queasy and I start to root for Duke in my mind even though i hate Duke lol
I kinda think the game might be better if they had more time between games - I think Wisconsin looked like they ran out of gas.
The wisky fans were do annoying and as a Tarheel it sucks seeing Duke win another title. Roy you need to step your game up.
They used to play the semis on Friday night, then the final on Saturday night. The last time they did that was in 1966. Kentucky apologists cite that as one reason UK lost to UTEP the following night. After that it varied. Sometimes they played the semis on Thursday night and the final on Saturday afternoon, sometimes it was Saturday/Monday. I think they've been using the current system since the early 80s. In Indiana the HS semis and final all were played on Saturday. IIRC they would play one at 1000 and the other at noon (not sure if they still do this). You did not want to be playing in the second semi.
Kaminsky made Okafor look like well a freshman. He played smart and got him into foul trouble. 21 point and 12 rebounds for Kaminsky playing 39 minutes. Okafor 10 pints, 3 rebounds in 22 minutes.
Yea that was a rough outing. It wasn't till late in the game he made his talent count with his contested shots of Frank in the paint and his spin move to score on him.
I'm not that impressed with him. He has quickness and athletic ability and good moves inside, but he is not the presence say Patrick Ewing had as a freshman. He plays more like a skilled power forward than a true center.
Funny they're still dealing with that instead of addressing the morality of their coach and recruiting policy of the time. I always found it interesting that Pat Riley traveled all the way from New York to be part of that fiasco. If he was good enough for Rupp, he'd probably been able to at least get John Wooden's attention at UCLA. That's crazy. I don't know if it's still handled this way, but as of the early 2000s, this is even crazier. The Georgia state football playoffs held the semis at the Georgia Dome (for all size classes) and then... then... then... they played each final at the home field of the team with the better record. Huh????? You're holding the most important contest most of these students will ever take part in on something other than a neutral site? Nobody ought to be playing a state final at home.
Auria, you had to remind me of that racist Rupp. My blood pressure shoots up when I think of him. To this day I will never understand how Riley could have attended Kentucky under Rupp. I hope that lost to Texas Western festers for a long time.
Well, it wasn't just Rupp- I'm thinking the rest of the SEC probably didn't begin the process of desegregating teams, skill positions and highest-level coaching and AD hires in basketball all that much more quickly than they have in football. Kentucky was the flagship program and therefore a beacon for the rest. They did manage to scratch the surface of repairing their reputation by hiring Tubby Smith, who took the 1998 team to one more win than Pitino had been able to do in 1997.
Yea, but what big has been that dominant dominant in college since 2000?? Hibbert?? Howard in HS?? Noah in Florida's Championship run. and you might be pushing it on that one. Oden at Ohio?? Plz show me lol.
Good points. The center position has been underwhelming. Oden was a big factor at Ohio State. Hibbert was inconsistent at Georgetown. Davis at Kentucky was a huge presence.
