They only didn't make it becuase they were disqualified for fielding a player they thought was eligible but wasn't (red card). They possibly could have qualified ahead of Cameroon.

Agree on Eder, his service has been better than his output suggests this game

    Love the excuses.
Cabo Verde is the greatest African side of all time undefeated at the CAN!
Who cares about the game it's a friendly?
It's big brother vs little brother (I don't see Nani on the field)
Don't watch if it's pathetic...yeah let's continue to live in the ignorance that we are so good.

Well the game isnt finished yet, but it wont change at all.
I dont highly rate friendlies, as i think they are useless if you cant see your flaws on them.
Remember, we won every single friendly before the WC and did that ******** campaign.

What I take from this defeat.

    - We dont have strikers.
    - We cant rush the youngsters, let they take their time.
    - Bernardo Silva is a gem, if he can develop well he will be a world class player.

    Taking that in mind:

Played well: Bernardo Silva, João Mário, Danilo, Paulo Oliveira, André André
Shitty players that shouldnt wear Portugal shirt anymore: Eder, Hugo Almeida, André Pinto

I know we shouldn play this awful even with Cape Verde, but it is only a friendly indeed, and without all of our main players. Its like a Portugal B or C.

Nevertheless, nobody can play like these if wants a chance in the main team.

We are not that good yet, but not awful like today too.

In football they say if you are not moving you are probably wrong. Between these guys and the main side vs Serbia and anyone else all I ever see is a bunch of slackers standing waiting for the ball to come to them before they move their feet. This is all attitude.

well this was a team of fringe players, the better ones need to be eased in alongside the more experienced players -simple as that. no need to overanalyze this to death.

Guys never allowed to be called again:
    Hugo Almeida
    Eder
    Pizzi
    Gomes
    Pinto
    Andre Almeida

Guys who should only get a half chance due to injury or player shortage
    Lopes
    Adrien
    Mario
    Danilo
    Andre Andre
    Vieirinha

Everyone else can go either way but none of these guys besides Bernardo Silva showed anything today.

4 wins in a row including vs Argentina and we get this vs Cabo Verde (aka the true winners of the ACN) to end the run.

it seems Joao Mario and Bernardo Silva were the standouts from what I read

I don't know if anyone expected much else, they would look a lot better playing alongside players like moutinho , tiago, or william, etc.

whole new densive and goalkeeping lines that have barely played together don't often work at first, but I can see Paulo Oliveira having a real shot at the squad in 2016 providing he keeps developing at Sporting.

Doesn't matter it's the attitude that was on display. Even the guys who don't have a realistic shot of playing on the main side should have been killing themselves out there. But they all have the Ronaldo mentality without the ability to turn the game on it's head in one play.

It was obvious player to player ours had way more talent but they only cared when the ball was at their feet. None want to run unless they know the ball is coming to them.

Lol, Remember when he made his debut with the A team against France and immediately drew a PK for the team?

sometimes you are hilarious. stop over analyzing. wholesale lineup changes especially with mostly youngsters rarely get immediate results.

    Agree with everything.
But i think you are being too harsh with João Mario and Lopes.
João Mario actually played nice 45 minutes and played very well for the NT main squad.
Lopes is a fantastic keeper, one bad game doesnt make him shit.
André Gomes should stat playing well for the NT or we will have another Danny, good only at club level

Like i said, from this brunch of players, i'd take for the main squad right now (all as bench players):
Anthony Lopes, Cédric (him i would strat instead of Bosingwa), João Mário, André Gomes, Bernardo Silva, Paulo Oliveira (who made a solid game if you ask me)

    Would give another chance to:
André André, Danilo (both were solid)
Antunes, Adrien, Vieirinha (all awful today, but we have seen their qualities)

    Never Again:
Eder, Hugo Almerda, André Almeida, André Pinto and Ukra.

I am disappointed and angry too but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Yes, many players either disappointed or were non existent but there was a few positives in-between all the crap.

Gomes, worst player on the pitch how can you play that well for Valencia quite consistently and be that bad.
Lopes, it did not look good, Patricio has to Frango a few times to be replaced anytime soon and Lopes might of dropped to 3rd choice which is a bit harsh.
Adrien looked ok, Tiago was always a 7/10 player and I think Adrien is a similar type (maybe a 6/10 today).
Silva looked the best, if you imagine Silva playing instead of Danny the improvement is vast.
Mário looked good too, nice interplay with Silva.
Almeida/Éder have had enough chances, Fonte, Ukra, Sa anyone else except Postiga again.
André André looked decent and Pizzi tried but did not succeed that much.

Not sure why everybody is overreacting, it's a meaningless game and guys are just getting their feet wet. Relax.

The second list I put were guys that can still have a chance to play. It's the top list that is a no fly zone. Lopes today didn't do anything to challenge Rui so everyone clamouring for Rui out (including me) don't have a leg to stand on. But Lopes should get another game or two to show his worth but it won't be in a crucial qualifier. Same goes for Mario and everyone else in list 2.
