Lots of possession, little done with it. Seattle has counter attacked fairly well and created a few chances with what's almost entirely their 2nd team.
Diego is looking pretty sharp playing the Nguyen role. Just played a nice ball to Hall on the wing who found Rowe at the penalty spot, but Rowe hit it about 20 feet over.
Diego looking fantastic. Tierney and Bunbury also looking good. Hall got skinned on the goal. Couldn't see which center back was supposed to be marking Cooper. Defense looking very shaky, but midfield and attack looking pretty good. And yes it's definitely preseason for the officials as well... and also for the cameraman.
Barnes playing CB takes the space given to him and slots Alston in behind the defense. Alston's cross is knocked into the net for an own goal.
Tyler Rudy celebrates his new contract by getting sent off 15 minutes into his appearance. Looked a bit harsh, but he was out of control and late in his challenge.
Davies does some nice work at the top of the box and lays off to Fagundez who has a wide open opportunity, but he slides it wide. Should have been a goal there.
Knighton had a huge match and kept them in it. Okoli draws a late penalty and Davies finishes it. Revs win a game they were mostly outplayed and outnumbered.
They were out played in the second half after the send off; but up until that time they clearly dominated possession. Not very many chances even though they had the majority of the possession. Diego looked good. Our corner kick, ah...defending; if you want to call it that, was awful.
I remember 2014 preseason, a red card offense was noted by the referee who conferred with the two coaches and they agreed that player would be subbed out instead of ejected. Seems like that would have been the way to go in this game as well...
Yeah but how many rows up did it go? That's the important part.... if not at least 15 rows up then its just a weak ass shot. Remember Power > accuracy Good thing Rowe is ready for the NATs
I had stuff to do, so I had the game on but mostly just listened. One thing I learned which I didn't know before, I assume it was said by Brad Feldman, apparently even though he only played one season here, Chad Barrett is "still beloved" by fans here in New England. I have no strong feelings for or against the guy, but I had no idea he was beloved by the fans here even back then, never mind now.
My favorite part about last night's game was how clearly you could hear Sigi Schmid whining and swearing after the late PK call.
Yeah but my video feed was about 20 seconds behind the audio feed. Did anyone else have that? I heard the goals before I saw them, LOL.
It wasn't quite 20 seconds, but it was delayed for me, in the first half at least. I actually liked it, because I was working on my computer, and the delay allowed me to look up and see things happen after I heard them get announced. It seemed to have cleared up in the 2nd half though, or perhaps I just didn't pay as close attention.
Yeah, maybe not 20. It seemed like it I guess. Actually you make a good point. I too was multitasking - a bad habit of mine lately. I also was able to know what to look for!
According to Wikipedia (so, take it for what it's worth), the Revs will play SKC on Saturday, in the 3 v 4-seed match. EDIT: According to this graphic from the FC Tucson website, Revs are playing Tucson:
My guess is that Jay Heaps took it as a learning opportunity for the team. Jeff Lemieux hinted at it here: Come-from-behind win a boost for Revs: “That’s a big step for us this preseason” Davies’ late penalty leads 10-man Revs to victory February 26, 2015 Jeff Lemieux
MLS site confirms the match is against the hosts: As does Lemieux: The #NERevs will close preseason on Saturday at 6:30 pm ET against FC Tucson. We'll have it streaming live for you once again.— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) February 26, 2015
I heard Jeff say that in the broadcast, but I think he just thought that up on his own (similar to his Chad Barrett is "still beloved" by Revs fans statement), and he didn't hear anything like that from Heaps. I believe that teams in pre-season are doing they're best to prepare for how they'll normally play, not for something that happens rarely, and I'd think this would be especially true for the trialists, that the coaching staff would want to evaluate them in 11v11, to see how they play in the team's chosen system, not how they react to 10v11. I'm not saying it's impossible that Jay wouldn't mind getting a red card to prep for 10v11, but if I had to bet money, I'd say it's much more likely that the ref a few years ago was taking a sensible approach, knowing what pre-season games are meant to be, and this ref just stood by the letter of the law. I'm pretty sure I've heard statements from a coach or coaches in the past where it was said they much prefer that refs have a player substituted in pre-season, rather than give a red card, because coaches prefer 11v11 to playing either a man up or a man down in such games.
Heaps was unhappy about the sending off. You could hear him say "I don't want to be man up; I don't want to be man down." He wanted to sub someone in and play 11 v 11. That said, playing short handed does give the coaches a chance to find out how guys react to adversity.
I don't understand why we should play Tuscon just because Seattle already has. We are the 4 seed and should be playing in the 3-4 Game. Not the kiss my sister game.
It's pre-season. It's not about winning the tournament, but about preparing for the regular season. SEA already played SKC as well, but playing a PDL team just doesn't prepare you the same way as playing an MLS team does. It's in the tournament rules (see Sigi's quote in post 49).
Yeah, sucks for us, but we did manage to get away without playing them last year. So, I guess it is only fair.
