if i had a say in uefa's business i would bounce feyenoord out of the europa league first thing in the morning. let's see the european bureaucrats stand up where real damage is being done to the sport of soccer, instead of spending their time lecturing and fining. there should be no place for this animal behavior in a center of european culture and beauty. and if i were the italian authorities, i would put on trial those who were arrested and if they should happen to get a two-year sentence i'd make them serve it. and the next time they come near places they are unfit to visit, i would have armed police forces ready with weapons drawn.
meanwhile feyenoord's eric gudde thinks that as roma will be fined for smokemakers inside the olimpico. nice little game this, our fans will trash a city, but inside the stadium they'll play nice little boys because they know uefa only sanctions what goes on inside the stadium. who said europe isn't just a bunch of stupid bureaucrats (and those who take advantage of it)?
rome mayor verbally abused by straggler feyenoord fans as he visits the scene of yesterday's devastation. reported by rome daily 'la repubblica.'
Rob Smit, chairman of the Feyenoord supporters club reacted angrily to the accusations, Dutch tabloid De Telegraaf reported. "I can understand the Italians must be miffed when Feyenoord fans urinate against their monuments." "But then, Rome is one big monument," he told the paper. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/dutch-help-rome-punish-unruly-feyenoord-fans-105803917--sow.html
I don't like the siege mentality displayed by Feyenoord officials but I can understand that they can't do much about events that occurred 5km from the stadium. There have been hooligans spotted with active stadium bans so it makes me wonder if the clubs and law enforcement were fully prepared. I feel the perpetrators should be held individually liable for the damage caused, not the clubs or Dutch and Italian tax players. Maybe it's better to ban away support from European games for teams with a hooligan following.
It had nothing to do with football.. All those hooligans should be arrested and handed over Rome. And of course ban from de Kuip for life.
Dutch authorities are working together with the Italians in an attempt to apprehend every hooligan that was involved. Dutch politicians are discussing possibilities to prevent incidents like this in the future. Measures like hooligans being required to report themselves at a police station during games, or taking away their passport during European games. I'm not expecting much from the politicians though. They usually just shout some populist slogans and then we'll never hear anything from them until the next incident. repeat ad infinitum.
dutch police know exactly who these people are. there's no 'work' to be done. it's the political situation in holland that is the root of this. dutch authorities are afraid of these people and are more than a little relieved to let them vent in rome. please... stop it with the bureaucratic 'it was five km from the stadium.' feyenoord knows who these people are, they have done nothing to address the problem, and they are perfectly happy to let whatever happens 'five km away' take place while they wash their hands of it.
I don't understand the "taking away their passport" idea.. If you live in the EU you don't need a pasport to travel inside the EU.
he's a nice dutch boy. like all of them. they're all nice dutch boys. didn't you see the videos and the pictures? nice boys.
I don't know how you came to this conclusion, but no. We don't know all our hooligans by face. So yes, there is "work" to be done. From what I have real this is about some 100 to 150 Feyenoord supporters. Identifying all of them will take some time.
police know who these people are. it's not a large group. they keep track of these things. let's not play dumb.
there's a lot of rotterdam street cops who could pick out half a dozen of these people in five minutes. and that's just street cops. there are close-ups, photos, videos. let's cut the crap that they can't be identified easily. that's ridiculous and false. how big a circle are hte feyenoord hooligans? this isn't a needle in a haystack. and by the way, look again, it was a lot more than 'just a hundred.' shameful. primitive. disgusting.
We do keep track of the more notorious hooligans, but not all of them. We have lax laws about this subject. It will take time to identify all of them. And don't expect them to receive heavy punishment from the Dutch justice system. We usually do a poor job at this. in fact most of them will get a way with all this, if Rome doesn't keep pushing for it.
You are seriously saying Dutch authorities should have send a list of names to Rome within 24 hours after the incident? That's not very realistic.
Nop, you still don't need a passport http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/eu-citizen/index_en.htm
yes. most certainly, if they cared. some of those faces must be known to rotterdam police. twenty-four hours is plenty of time to get started. it's impossible to believe they haven't recognized anyone. the proper channels and procedures should have been underway. truth is they have no intention of doing anything.
i'm sick and tired of the dutch, the germans, the finns, who spend every minute they can lecturing the rest of europe about discipline and rules. they should lecture some of their own, if they had the guts. but it's a lot more fun to talk the talk than to walk the walk. 'well, it was five km from the stadium... and we can't figure out who any of these people were, honest...' i guess they think the rest of us are idiots. uefa needs to have rules to eliminate teams from competitions for things like this. the 'inside the stadium' rule is a bureaucratic piece of crap and only serves to let a club like feyenoord wash its hands of the whole thing. their message to their fans is clear: do whatever you like, just keep us out of it. well, that can't fly anymore.
You would then need an ID card right? And you're only allowed to have an ID card or a passport. Not both.
How do you know they've not started? Who says that nobody has been recognized? How do you know that they're not? How do you know that?
