I emailed MLS yesterday asking this very thing and here is the response I received: "The information we currently have is that the Crew's blackout region is remaining unchanged. Clubs are still in the process of completing their local TV partnerships for 2015, so policies may change."
[Dons his flame-resistant suit in preparation for this post] You gotta admit, this thread--119 pages and 2900+ posts--is a bit daunting to read, or even skim through, and as a newbie, I haven't tackled the search functions yet. I was hoping some kind soul could answer two simple questions for me. 1) I've heard/read rumors that Precourt was going to try to find a way out of the 2 yr TWC deal. Any progress or hope, or is it a done deal for 2015? 2) Will Dwight Burgess still be the announcer on the TWC broadcasts this year? (Can't see why that would change). Thanks in advance. You were. You just didn't realize it. [Spoken in her high-pitched voice]: "Then, after mincing into fine pieces, place Toronto into a blender and puree for 90 minutes. Repeat this process season after season."
Time Warner stepping up their game by announcing they will broadcast both Crew SC matches in Austin live in HD. Game 1 is Friday at 6:45pm and the 2nd will be determined based on the result
I might have figured out a way for me to be able to watch all the games. Unfortunately though it is because our company's Columbus office is being closed. Right now it looks like I might be moving to Atlanta or Chicago.
Bummer man. Hope something works out for you! That's one thing I don't like about moving away from Ohio - being an out of state sports fan is tough.
That sucks. Sorry to hear it, man. If you wind up moving, just don't become a F!re or an Atlanta Phoenix/City/Silverbacks/Chiefs/FC/SC United (0r whatever retread poser name they choose) fan....
I've seen tweets that the Aztex will be broadcasting the games on YouTube - so if you can't get TWC, you can watch the stream on YouTube. Hope it works well! Glad they're doing it too.
I can't believe your company is so supportive of its employees' desires to watch Crew games they're willing to close the office and transfer staff. Crew's TV deal: driving businesses at least 75 miles away from Columbus!
Wonder if TW/Insight customers will get HD this year? My expectations are not high after promises of mid season last year and still no HD. Anyone heard any updates?
I assume Dwight will still be sitting the a small closet in downtown Columbus watching the Live Feed from the away games and will be describing what he sees on the monitor, just like last year.
Pretty much how it is done in other countries in a lot of cases. I recall back in the day one of the "Soccer Made in Germany" episodes showed how it was done--there was a central production center (in Cologne, I think, at Deutsche Welle HQ) with announcers in a number of different languages (I recall the Spanish version being shown--a game I had actually attended). It is not optimal, of course.
I was on the phone with TWC yesterday evening and asked about deployment of TWCSC in HD to the former Insight customers. I got the usual bit about it being scheduled but no firm date. I also asked if I could watch the Crew in HD if I subscribed to Direct Kick but unsurprisingly they black it out for TWC customers as well as WOW and U-Verse. TWC tech support sent me to their customer service location to exchange a cable box (which it turned out they don't carry) and the rep there said she didn't know either.
I think they sent them to some away games, I did not believe it until they tweeted pictures that they were there.
I thought Direct Kick was no more this year? But yeah...if you had the combination of Time Warner (regardless of former Insight or not) with Direct Kick, that channel should not be blacked out, even if you're given the Columbus feed vs other customers getting the opponent's feed.
