JPO didn't make the 18 for Oaxaca's first two league games, but this past week started for them in both Copa MX and Ascenso MX (both wins).
Ocegueda is still listed on the roster of Alebrijes de Oaxaca as a midfielder, though he was not in the squad for their Clausura opener last night. During the 2014 Aperatura he made 11 starts in the league and 3 in the Copa MX for Oaxaca. @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent Academy Forum?
He's doing well and is a hard worker. Objectively he's done a lot more than several players that many BS "experts" proclaim are better. He's showing a lot of mental toughness and he's always had the talent.
Garza has come a lot farther than almost anyone thought during his U20 days, too. Ocegueda wasn't in the 18 in the first game of the Clausura for whatever reason, but he's been back in the starting lineup since. His ceiling may be limited, but by nailing down a starting spot in Ascenso MX already he's established that he at least has a decent floor.
I've always thought they were similar players (many of the "shortcomings" that Garza had, folks said the same things about JPO), with that being said I agree that JPO can end up being a pretty solid player. Maybe not ever USMNT quality but I bet he makes a decent living player soccer for the next couple of years.
If anyone wants to see him Alebrijes de Oaxaca host Pumas in the Copa MX tomorrow at 9:55 p.m. eastern on Univision Deportes. @bungadiri Academy? Also thread title change "Juan Pablo Ocegueda at Alebrijes de Oaxaca"
Is Ascenso MX YA Academy-worthy? In any case, he played in Copa MX while at Tigres so @bungadiri - tear down this wall!! Ocegueda's had a tougher time with PT this season, with just one appearance off the bench so far. Alebrijes are top of the table at the moment.
Ocegueda got into five games as a sub in the Apertura, spending most of the year unused on the bench. This represents a decline in playing time at Alebrijes de Oaxaca, where he started a fair number of games in 2015-16 and 2014-15. He's now listed as unregistered, so perhaps he is headed elsewhere. @bungadiri Ocegueda got into a Copa MX games at Tigres, so he belongs with the big boys.
Loan home: IRVINE, Calif. – Former U.S. U23 international Juan Pablo Ocegueda led a trio of additions announced by Orange County SC on Saturday afternoon, with the full back joining the club on a season-long loan from Tigres UANL of Liga MX. http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/750895?referrer_id=2349190
