You didn't say Neeskens. You said Chris Dangerfield. Nobody has said there is anything wrong with wanting younger players here. I'm saying that Steve Gerrard being signed (the topic of this thread) doesn't prevent the players you want from being obtained. You're also ignoring that the world is very different today. Football wasn't dominated by a dozen megarich teams across four leagues in the seventies. Progression in things like training, injury treatment and management of stuff like diet and extracurricular activites has come a long way. A number of those stars smoked like chimneys and went to the pub after games. NASL likely didn't have 37 year olds because careers generally didn't last that long back then. You also couldn't see the Los Angeles skyline via a 3D rendering on an electronic device in your pocket. Living in Los Angeles was closer to being a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And the salaries? Back in the seventies, players were not looking at retiring as millionaire celebrities. Many had to work after they hung their boots up. It was a lot more enticing for a 28 year old Neeskens to go to glamourous New York City for a big wad of cash in 1974. These days, Ronaldo can get to LA and back in a long weekend for a mere sliver of his weekly wage. Not to mention the fact that the money NASL had to pay these players to come, helped it collapse.
@ barroldinho Dudes, seriously, you are all now continue to argue , attack and go back and forth and none of this really has anything really to do with the thread. I've already stated my thoughts and beliefs. I haven't really had time to organize everyhting but I think everyone understands my point. If anyone really has something to ask or tell me though or even if you want to chat, please just take it off the board and I'll be more than happy to respond to you. I'm trying to explain that I'm at work and can't get into a back and forth discussion or argument but by all means, please take it off the board. Thank you.
EPL says Lampard under contract at Man City, not NY City Yahoo Sports That's a big no no in my book. NYCFC lawyers didn't see no contract and why they fooled the public about Frank to buy his jerseys and season ticket. I don't care about this guy since his comments a few yrs ago but still they let the season holder bend over and get ********ed like this is not cool.
He cannot contribute to a discussion apart from repeating his points. Players like Giles Barnes, Andrew Driver, Richard Eckersley, Lewis Neal, Nigel Reo-Coker and Daryl Russel are the kind of players he wants the league to sign - As has been pointed out. Someone like Jermaine Defoe is also who he is asking to be signed (assuming he goes back in this transfer window)
Well you've pretty much either ignored my points or countered them by shifting the goalposts. Answer me concisely, these things: Am I wrong in saying that the presence of the likes of Juninho and Joao Plata in MLS, is a clear demonstration that the league does sign good young talent as well as well-known older players? Am I wrong in stating that the ceiling for signing even better young players is more a cap issue than one of signing well-known older players?
Once again, please take it off the board and/or PM me and I'll either give you my personal email or phone number number and we'll chat later on as I'd be more than happy to discuss anything you wish to talk about. Exactly and really can not afford to at this time. Thank you all once again!
I wonder how many season tickets they've sold based on the supposed signing of Lampard. This could create bad blood among their potential fanbase before they even kick a ball...
That Lampard news is utterly disgusting from NYFC . Fair enough they made an assumption that they would get him & they may yet do so but to portray him as their player , hold press conferences etc. when all they had to go on im assuming was a verbal promise from Lampard. What a horrendous start to the club. They really need to forget about Lampard and go get someone else to fill his boots.
@falvo The posts are not going to be deleted, there really is not a reason to. If you do not like the response you get to posting a 'thought' don't post it. This is after all an internet message board, and people are here to discuss their thoughts and opinions with like-minded or at the very least individuals with a common interest. The simple thing for you here would have been to stop responding, if @barroldinho or @Placid Casual continued 'attacking' you after you were no longer responding then there might be a reason for us to engage them privately, but they are not attacking you in any way, the topic is semi-germane. If you do not like it, stop responding to them, I am sure they will stop responding to you.
No big deal and I believe have stopped responding. As I asked previously, if someone has a beef, gripe, argument or whatever, that they please have the common courtesy to either PM or email me off the board or whatever because I will not sit here while I'm at work, risk getting in trouble because I need to answer and prove something to someone else which has nothing to do with the thread. Thank you
I'm confused. I certainly didn't mean to attack anybody. I thought we were just having a debate. I didn't even think it was heated. By no means do I expect anyone to stay online responding to me when they need to be doing something else. Apologies if you felt you were hounded. Like I said - I thought we were having a good-natured debate on what this signing means for the league.
Its all good and seriously, its really not a big deal and I may have misinterpreted it. My apologies. Either way, its very difficult for me to sit here while I'm at work, organize my complete thoughts without risking getting fired. By all means though I'd love to have any a discussion with anyone off the board and I'll try and respond later on. Thank you and cheers!
There's new news now, and Lampard has signed an MLS contract, per his agent, to start in MLS on July 1 -- just like Gerrard. http://www.espnfc.us/new-york-city-...rd-has-signed-to-join-nycfc-in-julyagent-says
On Ives site it now says Lampard has a contract with NYFC and will report in July...according to his agent. Sorry if someone posted and I missed it. At this point I just find this all fascinating, When I was a little kid my mom used to watch As The World Turns....classic old style day time soap opera. This is in the mid 60's mind you....this is almost as overly dramatic and cheesy. I can't stop paying attention.
I said Gary Cahill, not Tim Cahill. As a central defender, Gary Cahill may not have hit his prime yet.
Actually I agree with him. So if Garber says that MLS it is going to be one of the best in 2022 so what exactly it means by that. attendance, quality on the field, tv ratings.?
It looks this way at this point. The only silver lining here, is that if MLS continues its growth, and NYFC really catches on, eventually, since New York is a much bigger market with an astronomically high ceiling in comparison to Manchester, NYFC can surpass Man City in importance and in value, meaning that attention might shift to focus time, energy and resources to NYFC one day. Or in the case of something like Chivas USA, they will eventually sell to a better owner.
