    Welcome in 2015, guys! :)

We made a lot of wishes, on the first day of last year, and... quite all of them came true!

We wished for U-17 Nadeshiko Japan NT to win WWC ----> U-17 WWC won
We wished for Senior Nadeshiko Japan to win Algarve Cup ---> we anyway made the final vs Germany  tying USA and beating Sweden in the process :p
We wished for Senior Nadeshiko Japan to win AFC Asian Cup ---> AFC Asian Cup won
I don't remember if we had made any specific wish about Asian Games (we weren't even sure how they would have been played and with which kind of team, at the time) ---> we made the final vs North Korea; not a bad result, considering that we were missing all of the European-based players + injured ones (Sameshima)

We all know what this year is about, aren't we? :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:
I hereby officially wish for Nadeshiko Japan to win Senior WWC Canada 2015! :giggle:

There could probably be other tournaments and wishes worth making this year, but I don't even want to know that, right now. All of my wishing energy will be concentrated on a single target, this time!

    GOOD 2015, folks! :)

P.S. I'm going to ask mod Dax to lock 2014 thread soon, so let's start posting here, Nadeshiko-loving people.

Urawa Reds 0:1 NTV Beleza - 19' Tanaka Mina

Well, a bit of unfortunate news to start the year for the Red in me. Oh well, respect to Beleza all the same, and my Reds should be proud of the strides they've made. A loss ain't enough to bring me down from my cheer! :D

Happy New Year, (again) everybody! Hope you've had your fill of great times and great memories. Onto bigger and better things in 2015, Nadeshiko and otherwise! :x3:

EDIT: After being at 11469, it feels a bit strange being all the way back at one again... damn, am I already THAT nostalgic?

Well, some kind of karmic justice; as I had foretold, all the three teams that "made" 2014 Nadeshiko League season ended winning something:
    - Okayama Yunogo Belle won Regular Season
    - Urawa Reds Ladies won Exciting Series and whole Nadeshiko League
    - NTV-Beleza won Empress' Cup

I guess everyone can be quite happy this way. :)

Oh yeah, you did say that. You have a point, it is nice for everyone to get a bit of the pie, especially considering the posters that represent the clubs in the community.

... then again, we have some many faces now, I'm not even entirely sure I remember who everyone pulls for. We should totally find that old list and update it. :)

First video of the year and who better to provide it than the ever-wonderful ndsk. He spoils us!:x3:

It's highlights of the first half it seems, you can catch the goal and a good idea of the playing field as described by FullBloom, Beleza was smothering, they had my Reds number all night.

I also forgot, reminded with the big hug at the end of the video, that Ms. Yayoi won big on her way out. So happy for her! :D

Beleza deserved the win today. They controlled the game well and created better chances especially in the first half. At one point both of their fullbacks were in the attacking third - Shimizu running into the box with the ball and passing to Ariyoshi. Really fun to watch as usual.

In the second half, Urawa pushed hard by using Seike. But she was well marshalled by Norimatsu and Iwashimizu. Urawa had no idea but kicking the ball into the channel for Seike, and that wasn't really effective either. It was a quite familiar game for Urawa.

I'm not sure about Urawa, but Beleza will get even better. In my personal opinion, Urawa can get better only with personnel changes/additions because I don't think they will change the way they play whatever the way that is. Beleza are the favourite to win the league next season for me.

Yes, the fact that Mina Tanaka thought about running to the bench to hug Yayoi Kobayashi on her last day as a football player was very touching and also speaks volumes about what Kobayashi did mean for this team. Talk about a big mother for this bunch of girls!

Not sure about how interesting you all guys will find that, but, after the last game of 2014 season yesterday, I just finished elaborating a ranking of seasonal scorers (I think not even Full Bloom Guidebook has published this feature yet, although an_turtar can easily calculate it from his stats :p).

I will give you top 20 (if anyone is interested in the full rankings, I can send the file to him/her: not sure if I can somehow attach a full file in a post here on BS o_O). Consider the following warnings:
    - I considered all the official competition of Nadeshiko League clubs, id est Nadeshiko League (both Regular Season and Exciting Series, and I included the goals scored by Iga FC Kunoichi in the relegation play-off matches) and Empress' Cup, + IWCC/Nestlé Cup (of course just for those clubs who played it: Urawa Reds Ladies and Okayama Yunogo Belle);
    - I didn't consider the goals scored in National Team: this is mostly because, although I could easily retrieve all the goals scored by Nadeshiko Japan Senior team, I hadn't a reliable source for all of the matches of the other Nadeshiko teams (U-17/U-18, U-20, U-23...) where some Nadeshiko League clubs' members play (along with Challenge League's, University's and High School's players). So just club-play;
    - I didn't consider goals scored by Challenege League's players. I am sorry for Kumi Yokoyama and her impressive record, but this would have been beyond the scope of my work, and I would have had a difficult work to do if I wanted to gather all the goals of Challenge League players, including, for instance, those of preliminary rounds of Empress' Cup; so I restricted the chart to Nadeshiko League clubs;
    - I didn't considered the goals scored in leagues overseas: so players like Nahomi Kawasumi, Nanase Kiryu and Beverly Goebel-Yanez only have the few goals that they scored in Japan, although actually they scored more than that in the whole season. I also didn't consider those players when comparing 2014 performance with 2013 performance, since they played much less games in Nadeshiko League competition than last season, so they can't be actually compared.
    - The chart shows: position in the chart, name of the player, club, goals scored (in brackets they are spread in different competions, in this order: Nadeshiko League, IWWC/Nestlé Cup, Empress' Cup), difference in goal compared to 2013 season (in brackets; also in bold and with an exclamation mark if the difference is very meaningful). For instance, for Chinatsu Kira, who had a record 11 goals more than last season, the entry looks like this:
    4 - Chinatsu Kira - Urawa Reds Ladies - 13 (9 / 2 / 2)(+11!)
this means that Kira scored 13 goals, 9 in Nadeshiko League, 2 in IWCC and 2 in Empress' Cup, and that she scored 11 goals more than in 2013 season (when she had scored just 1 goal in the league and 1 in Empress' Cup).

Ok, here are the top 20 position of this year :giggle: (I hope I didn't make many mistakes):

    Nadeshiko League Seasonal scorers

    1- Yuika Sugasawa - Jef United Ichihara Chiba Ladies - 21 (20 / 0 / 1)(+10!)
    2 - Megumi Takase - Inac Kobe Leonessa - 20 (19 / 0 / 1)(+4)
    3 - Aya Miyama - Okayama Yunogo Belle - 17 (15 / 1 / 1)(+1)
    4 - Mizuho Sakaguchi - NTV-Beleza - 13 (13 / 0 / 0)(+2)
    - Miki Matsuoka - Okayama Yunogo Belle - 13 (13 / 0 / 0)(+2)
    - Marumi Yamazaki - Albirex Niigata Ladies - 13 (11 / 0 / 2)(+3)
    - Chinatsu Kira - Urawa Reds Ladies - 13 (9 / 2 / 2)(+11!)
    - Haruka Hamada - Vegalta Sendai Ladies - 13 (7 / 0 / 6) (+11!)
    9 - Saori Arimachi - Okayama Yunogo Belle - 12 (7 / 2 / 3)(-1)
    10 - Kiko Seike - Urawa Reds Ladies - 11 (8 / 0 / 3)(+11! debuted in Nadeshiko League this season)
    11 - Rie Azami - AS Elfen Saitama - 10 (10 / 0 / 0)(can't be compared properly: in Challenge League last season)
    - Yuka Nicole Momiki - NTV-Beleza - 10 (9 / 0 / 1)(+ 2)
    - Manami Nakano - Okayama Yunogo Belle - 10 (8 / 2 / 0)(-1)
    14 - Chika Kato - Urawa Reds Ladies - 8 (7 / 1 / 0)(+ 3)
    - Eriko Arakawa - AS Elfen Saitama - 8 (7 / 0 / 1)(can't be compared properly: in Challenge League last season)
    - Risa Ikadai - JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies - 8 (6 / 0 / 2)(+5!)
    - Mai Kyokawa - INAC Kobe Leonessa - 8 (6 / 0 / 2)(+6! injured for most of 2013 season)
    - Mina Tanaka - NTV-Beleza - 8 (3 /0 /5)(-9!)
    19 - Kanako Ito - AS Elfen Saitama - 7 (7 / 0 / 0)(can't be compared properly: in Challenge League last season)
    - Natsuki Kishikawa - Urawa Reds Ladies - 7 (5 / 1 / 1)(+ 5!)

One last observations: by comparing the two seasons, I also noticed that the players that changed their club from 2013 to 2014 season are just a few. Actually there were much more meaningful moves abroad, than to other teams in Nadeshiko League (for instance, the top 3 scorers of last season, Beverly Goebel-Yanez, Nahomi Kawasumi and Ji So-Yun all went to clubs overseas, and so did #7 of last season Nanase Kiryu).

I was happy to start this 2015 reading Beleza had won the Empress Cup. Sounded like an exciting game in the Full Bloom article. Hopefully we'll see more detailed highlights soon. Also an attendance of 6,120. I'm not sure how this compares to similar games in other countries, but sounds pretty good for Japan.

I may be one of the few Beleza fans on his thread, though my primary support was based on the fact that they were the only team that could mount any real challenge against the old INAC juggernaut. Especially when Asano Nagasato and Mana Iwabuchi were still on the team. Also, I have always been a Mina Tanaka booster. I always felt she was unfairly ignored by the press compared to some of the other 2012 U-20s, despite her obvious skill and talent. She has been going through a dry spell in league play but she had a good Empress Cup.

Incidentally, whatever happened to Kanao Soyama, Beleza’s number 1 goalkeeper? I noticed she disappeared towards the end of the Exciting Series. I assume she was injured but have not heard any details. Ayaka Yamashita has been doing a good job. Hopefully Belle will to see the value in a second full-time goalkeeper.

Profe at his finest! :D Much obliged for the ranking, all of that work is very much appreciated. It's interesting to see how many players really exploded in goal-output this season. I can't wait to see Ms. Seike keep improving in form.

You'll have to excuse me, because I'm always fascinated by these sorts of things, and even though you guys have seen me an annoying amount time by now, the fact remains that this community existed long before I was interested, so I remain curious of this...

With that said, okay you vouch for Beleza. I think kittypride did the same, if I remember correctly, but I can't think of anyone else off the top. Alrighty, if you HAD to pick, who would your second club be?

If you could indulge me, if everyone could indulge me (or ignore me, I guess). If you had to pick a maximum of two Nadeshiko clubs to support who would they be?

You guys already know mine: INAC / Urawa

I will stay with Sendai even after Sameshima leaves. Of course if she will play for a different japanese club, I might change alliances...
I hope the Seagulls will do well in Challenge League and we get to see more of Ms Ito.

I had the same thoughts - unless some of their big players go overseas, then this year Beleza will run away with the League.
I have to agree that Beleza deserved it over Urawa, but it was a somewhat disappointing match for the Final, say for example, compared to last year. Only in the last 15 minuites did Urawa look like scoring - and then Kato should really have scored after Shibata put it on a plate for her.
Its a pity that Naomoto was not back in action. Overall, Urawa has been just average without her, going back the last two months. Of course with the IWCC they also had three extra matches. Without Naomoto, and with Otaki gone to France, they actually seemed stretched for players, as I was thinking Saito was awful well before she was subbed out. Dozono was the hero v JEF but, just like against Sao Jose, she seems weak in DF. I thought Wada was perfect again but the coach bought in Usui at HT - she was soon giving ther ball away, but later played well when Beleza gave her loads of space (perhaps Shimizu needs soem DF coaching?!). Then the Urawa coah really gambled by bringing in the unknown Ishii....
The goal - it looked like to me Ikeda came out too far, as the danger from a shot was minot compared toto that of a cross - or a parry in front of an open net, which is what happened.
I thought the best player on the field was Shibata - this MF stint seems to have helped her. She almost dragged Urawa into extra time, but Kato had an off day.

As they lined up the new girl Yamashita seemed to tower over the other 21 players, she is on the tall side. And I dont think we've seens a mistake yet from her. Soyama has been on the bench, including today.
Mina Tanaka had very little playing time until the last few months, with Shimada, Yamaguchi, Kobayshi and later Kiryu crowding her out. Thats remarkable competition for a FW line! One comment is that she is a very "direct" style player, perhaps not good company for Momiki. She did win the spot this last few games, although recently Shimada has been out, apparently injured.
Hard to move off Urawa and Belle (although I fear mid-month departures, like last year). Dreaming of visiting Mimasaka again to see them.... although I think Beleza will have the first ticket in IWCC2015.

Well, unepomme this season was the only one to predict Beleza at top and always expressed admiration for Beleza's gameplay... I am not sure if I can really say that he's been a "supporter", 'cause it isn't in his style being very vocal about it, but for sure he liked them. :giggle:
I hope he'll be back soon to clarify this point...

A maximum of two??? Are you crazy? How can I choose 2 clubs only to support in Nadeshiko League, out of 10? :giggle:
Well, you all know that I always had a fondness for Vegalta Sendai Ladies, but, as #5Nadeshikofan noticed, Sameshima's leaving could shake things around a little... This season, I shared my allegiance between Urawa and Belle (and regularly, anytime I switched from one to the other, "my team" started sinking :giggle:). On the other hand, I always liked INAC for their previous years' game-style and for many beloved players in their team, although this season had changed things a little... But many are back (although Yoko Tanaka leaves, after a season where she scored 0 goals and she had little playing time: the crisis of one of the best players of U-20 WWC 2012 is really impressive! o_O)...

Well, in a few words: I can't really say that I root for one club or the other. Quite all of Nadeshiko clubs have players that I somehow love, so I can't really be very partial.

If it's enough for you, BtR, I can choose a single club I will root for in next Challenge League: that's Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara. :geek:
But I'll keep following with interest Nagano too, should Kumi Yokoyama remain there next season too (frankly I hope not and I believe she'll receive an offer to move back in Nadeshiko League).
And of course I'll give a "different" kind of support to Ange Violet Hiroshima, who don't need to always win, but have to reach perfect harmony, inside and outside. :giggle:

In this case, if Minako Ito and Emi Yamamoto remain in the club, I will have to share my allegiance between Nojima Stella Kanagawa and Seagulls...

I don't know enough about strategy, tactics or technical skills to be able to judge a team based on those logical qualities. My selections are more emotionally based. :D

My two teams are Okayama and Beleza. Though my support for Okayama is based solely on the presence of Aya Miyama. She has such skill, has given so much to the game, and seems to be such a decent individual, that I want to see her win a League Championship at least once (and another World Cup).

If Miyama were to leave Okayama for some reason, my two teams would be Beleza and Urawa. I like how both teams seem to be taking the long view by relying on young talent. I think Beleza is doing it more logically by keeping more senior players to guide, nurture and back-up that young talent. I think the presence of a player with a little more experience like Osafune, should she join Urawa, will only add to that team.

Due to my limited knowledge and experience, I am following just the Nadeshiko League. I have no Division 2 or Challenge League preferences.

Whoa, me asking everybody to do a thing... this might be the first time that actually worked

Thank you all for indulging my little curiosity, it's really cool to see exactly where everybody pulls. Not that some of us are fierce rivals or anything...:laugh:

I thought the same thing literally two seconds after I wrote that  I'd like to edit my parameters to include the entire league, hell throw in the Challenge and Regional leagues too. I love them all! :D

And since people have been kind enough to dig down to the Challenge League to provide their teams, It's only right that I do the same. I've always had a soft spot for my Anchors and Cherry Girls (you know the ones :) of course, they suck, so who knows if they're even still in the Challenge.)

Dude, there's no better reason to support anything, than to support it or them because they generate some powerful kind of emotion in you. If watching a player or a club do their thing moves you all the way down to your freaking soul, that's a keeper. That's pure magic, ya know? :D
