We actually went from 19.923 in 2013 to 20,117 in 2014.

In 2014, Houston sold 93% of all possible tickets.

Every team except New York Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders, Philly Union, Impact, Chivas USA, Rapids, and Galaxy reported a gain.

8th Best Attended League in the World. Higher average attendance than NBA and NHL.

Chivas USA recorded the lowest attendance figure in MLS history this past season. Last year saw Seattle record the highest in history.

    ^ Random stuff...

Ticket sales and attendance are different things. Not trying to pick a side, but there is no way in hell that stadium was 93% sold out last year. TV is probably priority number one from a business view, but BBVA has pretty clearly been a step in the wrong direction as a fan attending matches. I renewed my stx, so it works on me, but the folks in front of me who sat with us at the Rob didn't. We got a stadium that we're not allowed to own as fans. Also, I hope this thing with Erick works out!

The thing is those tickets were probably distributed. The problem is due to corporate not attending or scalpers. Those no-shows will eventually stop buying tickets, we will see if this is the year.

the issue of now shows or late shows has more to do with culture and climate than any perceived FO miss management. San Diego, LA, Miami, Tampa Bay, all Jacksonville suffer from the same attendance challenge with their pro teams. (not sure about phoenix) Yes some of these teams stink, but the issue has been there through thick and thin. Those of us that live in a temperate climate have a ton more options to choose from if we want to do something outside the house which leads to a culture of doing stuff outside. Everything from local BBQs to weddings. Concerts, golf, year round kids sports leagues, park visits, day drives, etc etc. This culture doesn't exist in NY, Chicago, Seattle etc due to cold, rain or both for large portions of the year.

Also, both southern and so-cal attitudes about "time" are far more laid back than up north. Being late to something is not a big deal for those that live in these areas. For places like Seattle, CBus, Green Bay, Chicago, NY - being at an outdoor event is a much bigger experience than it is for here and other southern climates. Much more people will show up and be on time for this "experience" due to the fact that they are cooped up in their house far more often than we are.

Could organization spend more money on marketing? Sure, if they had more to spend. Is it the FO's fault or negligence that our city doesn't show up on time or fill the stadium every game? Absolutely not.

The FO's on kirby, across the street at the juice box and down the road at Toyota all struggle with the same problem.

Our current FO is going to have to adjust however now that the "new stadium smell" has worn off and the cache is gone. They will have to be more aggressive and creative to get fans at game now that the curious Houston fan has come to the stadium to check it out. Those extra tickets won't be sold going forward for curiosities sake.

    PS

I still like the "Oven" for the stadium nickname.......

The discussion now is: We are not getting Torres (or somebody like him) because we are not a big enough market.:D

Do you really think we are getting him?

But if you remove Seattle's numbers where does the MLS rank. I think Seattle helps inflate the league's numbers....there are no 60+K venues for the NBA and the NHL.

I don't know anything that y'all don't know. However, I feel like we are either going to get Torres or a DP worthy forward.

    For Torres:

Now that LA, Seattle are out of race. It would've been between us, NYCFC, OCSC, and NYRB. The expansion teams have already spent their DP slots elsewhere or are about to. That leaves NYRB. Which aren't going to be investing in a player like Cubo in the near future because the energy drink plans on selling them.

That only leaves us as viable option.

....and if you delete the Winter Classic game....

Look, we can't count the numbers any other way. They had a head start, Seattle only uses full stadium a couple of times a year, and Chivas USA was holding us down. You can always make excuses. Let's count the numbers we have instead of arguing hypotheticals.

    All factual statements.

However....when the Houston Dynamo start getting the perks that the LA Galaxy get, or see the rules bent a little bit (or heck, even created) to benefit our club as well, then I'll get excited.

I agree, I think no shows are going to be the new reality of the legalized second hand market era. For some massive event fans might buy every single scalpable ticket and fill the stadium. We are not the Super Bowl. As long as you have people trying to make a buck flipping tickets (or buying STH to give to company people who may not show) and a soft-ish market for Dynamo tickets, you will have some empty spaces where people lost their business bet. I don't think the teams care after the tickets sell the first time. They deposit the ticket payment.

"We’re trying to add depth to the roster at this point,” club president Chris Canetti told MLSsoccer.com Friday. “We need to add good quality depth to surround the base of talent that we’ve got already. I think these players could fit that need.”

Actually, Brian Perk would be an upgrade from the level they are focused on. The Willis level. The minor league marginal level IMO.

If you've read my posts I think we should be focusing more on starting talent. The Perk point is a sub-argument that we can do better off the clearance rack as well. The two are not mutually exclusive, I think the salary cap depressives shouldn't be picking players because they seem to only look at cap hit and not whether people can play. Perk can play, Willis can't.

There needs to be more of a "I want that guy on my team" sensibility. The talent level from XI down is the real problem.

    Let's say we get Torres..

He will play for us maybe... maybe 2 years and we have to sell him because he gets to big for our britches. Now we are back were we left off.

    Just sayin....

I understand, but that describes most players, and clubs in the world. It's really what you want from a player, and would be the best case scenario, to play so good for the Dynamo that big clubs come calling for him.

Perk was so highly sought-after that every MLS team passed on him. At some point, you can't be right and all 20 MLS teams are wrong. I think (although I am not sure) of your philosophical arguments about focusing on cap vs. talent but you use extreme theoretical arguments about backup GKs to attempt to illustrate your point.

Tyler Deric is the starter and they needed a backup. They picked Joe Willis. And if they picked any other backup keeper at $75k I'd have probably been fine with that.

There will be other moves and after that final round you can make the argument you want. I recognize that at this point it is incomplete. I don't like losing Sherrod while keeping other non-tradeable guys on the roster. I think it is a mistake. If we end up signing two quality strikers, the risk of the loss may have been worth it.

If we roll into camp with the largely the same roster as we finished with in 2014, more people will be with you.

Re Perk, with his GAA I will be interested to see where he ends up. There were a few non-drafted players who will likely be signed so I think here is where people are being too quick. I expect him to land somewhere, MLS or Europe. Had a .5 GAA. Too good to wash out.
