I never doubted what formation they'd run. Kreis loves him some 90's style soccer.

He just always seemed so....dumb....for lack of a better word. He'd do all this good stuff, then screw it all up with a bad giveaway in the midfield or something like that.

Nobody on Orlando City's roster is a USL guy other than Molino and Boden. The rest that were retained are either players they signed in preparation of the move to MLS or young academy players.

And for the record Molino is a lot better than a fill in, imo

I was nodding up and down for Kreis' picks and side to side for Orlando's. Not that I really know what's best for them. Having said that......Danny Mwanga? Orlando picked retiree Connor's back-up at Philly, Brazilian Ribeiro, over native corn Schoenfeld (Crew) who is similar type big target forward. I wonder if Bobby Wood likes cheese steaks. Transfer markit says he is valued at 500 thou.

Sherrod and Mullins are nice pickups as young, talented forwards. On the other hand, Anibaba over Soares and Opare is puzzling. 31 y/o CB Jason Hernandez? Very veteran heavy draft though it's certainly understandable Kreis would go with some of his guys from RSL.

George John??! There has got to be a story there given the player's injury history.

Orlando has already shipped out Anibaba and Sherrod (Sporting KC and San Jose respectively) and Gehrig too (Chicago).

Ditto. Orlando did so well to pick up the spine of their defense beforehand, and then it feels like they just punted this draft.

Still, hard to judge until we see the whole roster firm up, including the guys they apparently traded for with Anibaba and Sherrod.

Orlando City has a number of very talented players. Redding and Turner are US Youth Internationals. Heath is another young player who could definitely make it in MLS. Molino was the USL Pro MVP two of the last three seasons. I think a lot of people will be surprised at how good he is. Boden, Ceren and the two Portuguese Players are the ones that I'm not sure about whether they will be good enough for MLS. The other four should be.

Yup. Injury situation over the past two seasons has made him questionable. Plus, young defender Walker Zimmerman has a lot of upside, and Stephen Keel is a good veteran backup option. FCD is also likely to sign Boyd Okwuono out of UNC as a homegrown. I imagine the backline going into the start of 2015 will be all-American for FCD (Loyd, Hedges, Zimmerman, Hernandez).

Anibaba, of course, was packaged to SKC..............................

Not USA eligible, but Canadian Doneil Henry is headed to West Ham United:

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...il-henry-officially-completes-move-west-ham-u

Henry has been capped 14 times for the Canadian national team. He was the first player to graduate from the TFC Academy, where he first started at 16 years old. Henry logged 92 first-team appearances since graduating and joining the senior team in 2010, one of the highest appearance totals for any Toronto FC player. But, he’s already itching to start competing for regular minutes at West Ham, too.

"Personally, I want to make my mark as quickly as possible,” Henry said. “The only way to develop is by playing games and putting yourself under pressure. It's good for players to get opportunities so the sooner I can get into the mix the better.”

West Ham currently sits seventh in the Premier League table and manager Sam Allardyce had a first-hand look at Henry last year during a two-and-a-half week training spell with the club. The Hammers completed the signing almost one year later after a recommendation from former TFC manager Ryan Nelsen.

"We have invested in him for the near future, so we do hope he can make some sort of appearance this season if he settles in and does as well as Ryan [Nelsen] thinks he will,"Allardyce told the official West Ham site. "If not, we hope he is certainly one for the future."

really.....I was never impressed with him. I figured we got a pretty reasonable stock in the US better than him.

Bad news, one of our questions appears to be now answered. it appears that Diego Fagundez is making his move . .

    http://www.thebentmusket.com/2015/1...r-close-to-sealing-usmnt-us-soccer-revolution

Diego Fagundez is one step closer to being tied to the Uruguay National Team after being named to the 23-man roster that will hope to qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup being held in New Zealand.

Fagundez was one of 27 players called in by head coach Fabian Coito ahead of the South American Youth Championship, which will be held from January 14-February 7. The New England Revolution midfielder performed well in camp, scoring two goals in four friendlies. Coito named his final roster on Saturday, which included Fagundez.

The inclusion of Fagundez is significant because playing in the tournament would seal the teenager's international future. While Fagundez has long lived in the United States, he only obtained permanent resident status in October of 2014. Since he isn't currently a US citizen, representing Uruguay in an official international game would tie him to that country.

Fagundez has always been coy about his international prospects, saying it would be a honor to represent both Uruguay and the United States. It appears, however, that Fagundez is set to declare allegiance to his birth country

Its more "expected" news than bad news.
His timelines just don't work. He only received his green card in 2013, so we were looking at an extended period before he got citizenship. It's a Najar, Ibisevic, type of situation............................

Our only real hope was that Uruguay wasn't interested.

Fagundez isn't the head-scratcher at the South American U20 Championships. Santiago Castano of NYRBs had been a U17 and U20 international for the US, but chose to play for Colombia at this event (instead of playing for the US at the CONCACAF Championships.)

You forgot to mention trying for grass field for 2016 provided Portland State does mess up the deadline.

Also, Did he leak that there might be 4 DP's allowed in new deal?

The answer that perhaps will draw the most attention was Paulson’s thoughts on the resources he invests in on-field personnel. He said that despite the fact that the Timbers already have three Designated Players – Diego Valeri, Liam Ridgewell and Fanendo Adi – that doesn’t mean they’re done investing and that their spending levels are already top third in MLS.

“My staff has a green light to sign a guy on $5 million or less a year at their discretion (and more if I approve)… but getting the right one is the trick … they don’t grow on trees and it’s not just quality on field we look for,” Paulson wrote.

Oh, and Gerrard signs with LAG. Big day for bombshell MLS announcements.

Petke was on my list of coaches to watch over this coming cycle with regards to possible future USMNT involvement. In two years he's shown himself to be an excellent man-manager, an important trait for a national team manager (and a trait that I'd argue our current manager lacks). Wonder how he bounces back from this.

Petke's replacement is Jesse Marsch. Not a bad 2nd choice as manager, he's a good X's and O's man, but what on earth did they have to fire Mike Petke for him for?

NYRB and RSL seem to be competing for the "Most Likely to Go From Good to Crap in a Season" award.

On the other hand, I think the leading nominees for the "DC United Memorial Phoenix Award" are Houston and San Jose.

Petke's firing is criminal. I'm a Galaxy fan, but living in NJ and seeing NYRB every week made me kind of root for them in the east. It's disgraceful to see that they would discard Petke like this. I hope they struggle mightily this year.
