Carlos Tevez was called to the Argentine squad by former Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino this time and his call-up was the first time he was brought to the Argentine team since his horrendous display at Copa America few years back. The Juventus star hasn’t been called up since 2011 but Gerardo Martino has explained his decision to call the striker back as a one that was inevitable. The former Barcelona boss said that it was almost impossible to ignore the in-form striker who has been in fantastic form scoring tons of goals in Serie A. The striker has scored 8 Serie A goals so far, joint top in the league and would likely join the starting lineup for Argentina when they face Croatia this game. Meanwhile, Sunderland defender Santiago Vergini has also been called to Argentina squads who enjoys his second cap, his first being in 7-0 victory over Hong Kong in Asia last month. Marcos Rojo has been ruled out for this game following an injury to his shoulder playing for Manchester United and as a compensation to the defender’s absence, Argentina have called uncapped Sporting Lisbon defender Jonathan Silva. Possible Starting Lineups: Argentina: Guzman, Zabaleta, Vergini, Demichelis, Vangioni, Gago, Perez, Gaitan, di Maria, Messi, Tevez. Croatia: Subasic, Srna, Corluka, Vida, Pranjic, Brozovic, Rakitic, Modric, Kovacic, Kramaric, Mandzukic. http://hamrofootball.com/2014/11/10/argentina-vs-croatia-preview-possible-lineups-prediction/
I was taking the line-up seriously, until I saw Vangioni and Gago's names.. Martino didn't call up any local players out of respect for the Argentine club teams who are still scheduled to play both domestic and international matches during these upcoming FIFA dates. Both Vangioni and Gago play for Argentine clubs (River and Boca, respectively) and were therefore excluded from this roster. So that leads to my question.. any clue on the team that Martino will field vs. Croatia? Are Guzman and Vergini actually going to start?
Yeah, plus Croatia is fielding their bench, and the likes of Modric,Rakitic,Mandzukic will be on the bench, I believe they have a Euro qualifier VS Italia few days after this game. Which I do not get why they would have to field a second team, it's almost impossible to miss these Euro's when nearly half the delegation of UEFA will be there, moving from 16 to 24 teams.
Croatia is going to play a B team. Not sure why they are even playing this game as they are saving there best players for Italy on Sunday.
in training Tata tried Romero Zabaletta- Demi- Fazio- Ansaldi Enzo- Masch - Banega Messi- Kun - Di Maria
the line up Romero; Zabaleta, Fazio, Vergini, Ansaldi; Banega, Mascherano, Enzo Perez; Messi, Aguero and Di Maria.
Beautiful goal by Croatia. Arg dont look comfortable in Martinos style were all over the place. Plus again he goes for 2 very slow CBs
Typical Kun NT version, missing easy one. Wasted another. And then another, easier than Pipita chance against Germany. Should have been 2-1 by now. We didnt look like a proper team so far.
You have to laugh, for their clubs our strikers are the best in the world, for the NT they would miss an open goal from on the goal line.
Just bring one Tevez, at least we've seen enough of Kun in last 4 years. Should try something new upfront every once in a while.
Problem with this system is that it relies heavily on CBs being able to distribute and unfortunately were not deep in that department. Also, the guys look all over the place with no cohesion
His goal scoring record for Argentina is actually pretty good, especially as most of the time he has come on as a sub. It's just that when he starts he never looks as effect.
