    Here's a link to the Sun-Sentinel article....
    Strikers sold to Brazilian group
    Sun Sentinel

Apparently the new owners will keep Tim & Tom in their current roles. I think that continuity will be a good thing for the club. I am excited for the Strikers fans and really hope this group is willing to do what Traffic USA did not do consistently - market the team and focus on selling tickets.

Now, before the Traffic USA bashing gets going too severely, I am thankful that they took on the Strikers, Railhawks and Silverbacks. Without their sizeable investment in the NASL and those teams this league probably does not exist. I also think this is a good sign for the league because now they (Traffic) are the majority owner of just 1 team. I seem to recall a lot of complaints about this for the last few years. As the Sun Sentinel article states, they now have 13 ownership groups. I think 13 might not be the right number (11 seems more accurate because Virginia & OKC don't seem to actually be happening) but that's what the article says...

It's a great day to be a Strikers fan again. The first game back as the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers back in 2011 felt real good. It felt like my boyhood team was back again. Over the last three years some of the luster came off that feeling. Traffic's standard operating procedure here was obviously one of spending as little as possible to lose as little as possible. As fans we could somewhat see the logic given all the money they put into the league on the whole, but obviously we were unhappy about the effect that all had on the operation of OUR team.

But today gives me that feeling again. From the little we've heard so far, and what I think we're going to hear today, we're blessed with new owners that WANT to own THIS team and WANT to more strongly than ever embrace it's history and legacy, and restore the meaning it once had to this community. The Strikers were a household name in South Florida 30 years ago. These guys want to make it that way again. I cannot wait to see where things go from here. We have optimism like we haven't had since the rebrand happened. Starting today at the press conference, the atmosphere around this club is going to change. I'm damn glad to be able to experience it.

As someone who covers the league, I'm really happy for you guys. Sure, maybe you don't have the sheer numbers that Indy does, but you've got a dedicated fanbase that deserves all the best from an ownership group. Here's to an exciting future!

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, at the press conference, said he was happy to meet Beckham in the past but: "Today is the day I can tell him without a doubt that I don't want to meet any more."

The new owners can start with Striker bumper stickers ("I'm a Striker Liker") and license plates. This is the cheapest form of advertising available. Imagine the increased visibility of the club with even just 1,000 cars driving around the tri county area with stickers on the back and plates on the front.

    Simple and effective.

I wonder what the hell that means?

I hope this means they will create an academy.

This is vital to making their stamp on their territory.

I honestly would do it for a year before the Miami MLS team comes around to give advertising to the strikers down here in Miami, get some fans in those seats, so when the real team comes To town, they have a good crowd... No lie though those license plates are really expensive compared to standard license plates no?

Yes. I'll put at least one on both household vehicles. I'll recommend that at least one be included in each season ticket pack for 2015.

Of those I have no doubt.

I doubt whether 1,000 people will go to the level of putting a bumper sticker on their car AND/OR replace their front license plate.

That seems like a lot when it's hard to get 3,000 people to a game. I know it sounds easy, but not everybody has that level of support for the cause.

Since Becks & Co have targeted one city as it's market The Strikers will remain the Kings of SoFL until they become aware that their actual market has to expand from there. Even then I think that there is room for more than one team here.

    I disagree....:)

It will be fun to see how it works out, but Os Tres Mosqetieros seem to be ready to do and spend what is needed to make the Strikers fly. This is one way that's been recommended. It is worth a try, even if it's only a hundred or so do it to start.

They say they have ideas that will "blow our minds". I don't know what to make of all that. I'd just like some things that get people in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, and to a lesser degree Miami-Dade, aware of their existence. That and the hope that they are willing to pay for a team worth watching are realistically all we can hope for.

Yes, I recognize that I am a septuagenarian fanboy posting his fondest wishes. After years of no team, then an underfunded farce, I'll keep posting this way until the Strikers succeed or die...;)

Yes, I see a bunch of Silverbacks stickers on cars around metro Atlanta. I would put a plate on my car if they had one.

    King Contrary Man,

What's your point? Does that number offend you? It was just a number. If it's 500 or 5000 cars, it will increase the visibility of the club. That's the only point I was trying to make.

Are you really that negative all of the time? I hope not.

    Sheesh...

Yes, yes he is. He sees it as his All-knowing Grand Poobah of Soccer civic duty. The problem with Kenn isn't so much that he's wrong, it's just that he's extremely obnoxious in making his points. Given our current fanbase, 1,000 seems like a high number. But assuming our new owners put a decent marketing/advertising budget in place, bumper stickers is indeed a good low cost idea as a throw in with season ticket packages. I have a feeling we're going to see a much better focus on team merchandise next year. Current FO personnel, even if they had a proper budget, don't seem to understand the significance of a good merchandise line for the club, and an online presence to sell it.

Then there's the whole issue that bumper stickers and license plates don't sell tickets.

    They just don't.

Telling someone there's a team is not the same thing as making them a fan of that team. It's a necessary first step, but it's only a step.

Just like telling someone there's a game is not the same thing as selling them a ticket to that game.

Look at 100 cars today on your travels and tell me how many of them have any bumper stickers on them. I did today and it was almost none. It's just not something that's widely done anymore.

    But, hey, good luck.

Raising awareness of your brand and actually selling tickets aren't the same thing. The first does help the second in an ideal world though. The Strikers had huge shortfalls in all areas this year besides coaching. No question that a fully staffed, preferably experienced, sales team is needed to increase attendance next year. Striker fans are painfully aware of this and have expressed it as a concern to the new ownership already. But increasing brand awareness is certainly an admirable pursuit as well. And any low cost piece of the puzzle, no matter how small a piece it is, is something our new owners should, and will consider.
