You don't need to have the white space empty to do that.. The NFL used to do that with the white portion of their logo all the time. Basically the logo itself has something in that white space for uses where it is solely used as a logo, but then for promotional material you drop the white space and the graphic occupying the space and replace it with the marketing image... I like your red and white vertical stripes as it breaks up the empty space that is currently there, but it is easily dropped for the promotional material.
I assume you will really see that blank space used for things like fade-in/fade-out on TV for replays and such.
All you guys doing these team specific mockups remember its a logo for the league, not the teams, right? Color co-ordinating is one thing, but incorporating actual jersey or brand elements is a step too far. Its not meant to be overly flashy. It should be something unobtrusive.
They're just leaving the rest of the time blank in order to bring you in and out of the press conference world.
Can we get a SG to crash the press conference to start chanting "You f**ked up!" ala Timbers' Army at their team's MLS logo reveal?
Woah, woah, woah.. The logo represents MLS core principles of Club, Country, and Community. Therefore, the logo is specifically meant to be tailored for each club. If anything, restricting the clubs from inserting their own branding into the logo would go against that core principle.
Heading to NY for the new @MLS logo launch. Exciting times ahead for the league. @thesoccerdon heres one from #RBNY pic.twitter.com/d8wgBrcVuj— Tim Cahill AO (@Tim_Cahill) September 18, 2014
Yeah, I'm not against the logo being modifiable to contain a club's colors. The Big Sky conference (NCAA D1) was doing this for all its teams. Not the best example, but I just happened to attend one of their schools, Sac State, so "whatevs". I like how it turned out for them (can't find it now, though).
I don't like it It's bad The only positive thing I would focus on is the blank space.... they can use it to put the logo of some future league wide sponsor
Without looking them up, quickly describe the La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Liga MX and Premier League logos.
The Big Three Euros are easy to remember. Italy and Mexico are hard to describe without looking them up.
