Who coaches them now? I guess you guys remember Al Pastore he was a terrific youth coach. I am not even sure he every played the game himself. Which makes his success as a coach even more amazing.

Al Pastore was up here in NY for many many years as a Coach and a referee and he was even an owner of the club, then after selling the club he was on the coaching staff at Duke and then coached high school for quite a few years down there and I think fully retired about 3 years ago.

"Stepped down" is the first of many euphemisms in that press release. I am genuinely sad to see this happen but with all the changes since the beginning of the season (such as the affiliation system and the recent hiring of a new technical director) it seemed inevitable. My biggest miscalculation was thinking it wouldn't happen until the offseason.

sorry to hear this, have always enjoyed the "friendly" banter, that he would have with our fans and the refs. Always good for a pint in the pub afterwards too.

There was a way forward for Irving and Wilmington - even after the loss in Sacramento (where BTW - only one team has taken all three points this season). It seems like there were points for the taking at Orange County (where Jason Arnold/Carson Porter regime won 2:1 last night), at home against Orlando twice (City is 1-3-1 away over the past month with losses at Rochester, at Harrsiburg, and at Charlotte) and Sacramento (7-5-1 away this season), and then a road match in Dayton (where the Dutch Lions have not won a match this season).

Yes, Irving was 1-6-6 in his last 13 matches and Wilmington was on an alarming slide.
Yes, coaching is about what have you done for me lately, and coaches are hired to be fired.

IDK, after 15 years and the biggest upset in USL PRO playoff history (at Orlando City - 2012) on his resume, maybe Irving earned the benefit of the doubt - at least for the remainder of this season?

Best wishes to Arnold & Porter in the "quest to save the season" in Wilmington (where I'm not even sure it needs to be saved - just take the points you're rated to take and the Hammerheads will more than likely be in a win-and-you're-in position in Rochester on September 7th). If they can manage to turn it into a 15 year run of success in Carolina I just hope they meet a more ceremonious end than the one they just handed to Irving.

Really hope Coach has a good year out there. I know he'll put together a competitive squad as he is a fantastic judge of talent.

I heard this on the USL Show podcast earlier in the month. So far it sounds like Baltimore is the most likely destination. It sounds like they are using this year off to look for additional investors.

They will need to significantly upgrade their ownership group to make it in Baltimore.
