Update: Adu turned home a loose ball with his back heel to grab the winner for Philadelphia in Saturday's 1-0 triumph over Chivas USA in Southern California. Analysis: It was Freddy's first of the season, as he once again has landed somewhere that he isn't getting the playing time that American soccer fans wish he would get. 22 Apr 2012 06:39 AM
I have played and watched soccer for almost 40 years and havent seen many exciting American players in my time. Freddy Adu is one player that stands out as a great soccer player. I dont understand why he is not playing full games (with Philadelphia) and a starter on the National team. He is an exciting player to watch and creates goal scoring opportunities. I asssume his Coaches dont like his tactical skills, decisions or cant accept his dynamic game.
i on the other hand watched him several times when he was at monaco and though he may have certain ball skills that seem exciting on YT, the word those real game performances brought to my mind was not tactical, decisive or dynamic but imposter.
Big Freddy Adu fan.. Met him once he was very nice. For those who don't know check him out www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGFO-qiuC38
That is such a pain in the butt problem with some of the us coaches that they put too much emphasis on fundementals and defensive, conservative style futbol. They need to incorporate a little art into American Futbol or they need to give Freddy some playing time for him to be recognized by some international recruiter so that he can stop wasting his time on the sideline while his joints are getting rusty. I also have watched him since he was young. He was real gifted young player, real creative player. He had a great future but now where is he? He really needs to step it up in 2014 worldcup if he wants to be recognized by international leagues.
ms47 i'm not gonna open that link. since it's in the adu thread it has to be some kind of spam. and why isn't freddy in the squad for the world cup?
i honestly dont see what makes freddy adu so special. he's technically decent, good for MLS, but look at it this way: who would you take out of the lineup to put him in? I think Juergen made the right choice.
Can you tell me what position Freddy is playing? I remember him as being a pretty good left wing mid. He could make a pretty good left footed cross. But the coaches he had here played him at other positions where he did not stand out. His starting point should be left flank mid. Then he can move and attack space from there.
Did Jurgen make the right choice of leaving Donovan off the team when he can still play, and could have helped the team especially on a counter attack. He can still pass better Then 80 percent of the team. Altidore was the only target man on the team. They don't have another why not. Then he gets hurt in the beginning of the first game. They don't have another to replace him. Jurgen is not about making good choices. He is about getting Germans of American soldiers to join the team --- On Adu he is a left wing mid. If he has not learned it already he has to learn how to play that position the right way to best use what he does well. Ever seen him make a left footed cross? If so tell me about it.
Donovan was cocky in the tryouts, not putting effort in because he figured he'd be on the team. Obviously it's a risky call, but I don't think Donovan would've helped take the US any farther than they already went. As for taking the Germans on his team, I think he made the best choices with that. Jones played extremely well, and so did John Brooks.
Adding Donovan to the team should have been a no brainier. He does not have to try out. He is on the team and just has to train with the team. He would have made the team better then they were in this world cup. He would have made less passes to nobody then this team made in this World Cup. Here is Klinsmens plan for playing. If they get the lead clear the ball out to no one and hope they can keep the other team from scoring for the balance of the game.
No, see that's a fan's point of view, that it's automatic. That's not how it works. Your plan seems a little flawed, considering Juergen is one of only a handful of coaches who've won the world cup as a player and as a coach.
What year did he win the WC as a coach? He never won it as a coach, and he never will. He would never get a chance to coach Germany ever again. He will never get a chance to coach a German club team. Why, when he did the German National team his players thought he did not do a good job. But here in the US people like you think he is the best. You don't even know he never won anything as a coach.
Man Adu was promised to greatness. Unfortunately, did not turn out that great. Too many attention must be a factor here. When you're 13-14, it's not that easy to live up to that many expectations.
When he was 16 he was a dominate player on the under 17 national team. His mistake was going to the MLS Novak did not know what to do with him.
i don't see where he made any "mistakes". he's tried to ply his trade in enough places at enough different levels that if he really had the stuff we would have found out about it eventually. every major club academy in europe sees 16-year-olds as good as adu every year. very few end up as stars; many don't even end up getting a pro contract. adu got about as high as his physique and skills allowed. that's it.
Freddy Adu's current employment - playing for the reserve team of a Finnish team. That reserve team plays for the 4th division of the Finnish league, which in its first division is ranked 35th league in Europe. Oh my. One can't drop any lower than that! http://screamer.deadspin.com/freddy-adu-scored-the-saddest-free-kick-youll-ever-see-1715561466
Except, he's quit that team and now is rumored to be signing on with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL, second division in USA. http://www.espnfc.us/story/2519700/freddy-adu-close-to-signing-deal-with-nasl-tampa-bay-rowdies
