Kofi Twumasi is apparently a Ghanaian-born American player at FC Botosani in the top Romanian league. He moved to the US when he was 1 year old and grew up in Georgia, where he excelled in high school. He apparently had trials with Man City and in Portugal. He seems to have given up his senior year in high school to play for FC Botosani. http://www.gwinnettprepsports.com/news/2013/jun/08/boys-soccer-player-of-the-year-berkmars-kofi/ http://www.fcbotosani.ro/echipa/lot/player/5-liga-1/1-fc-botosani/109-twumasi-kofi http://www.fcbotosani.ro/echipa/lot http://www.fcbotosani.ro/club/stiri/847-fc-botoani-a-prezentat-noile-achiziii
Great find. That is a sneaky good league, considerably better than MLS at the top. And he is listed with the first team as a 17 or 18yo midfielder. So he was ranked #10 nationally in his class, above many top D1 program recruits: http://www.collegesoccernews.com/in...s/342-draft-class-of-2015-high-school-juniors ODP: http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/us_you...tate_team_enjoys_successful_trip_to_portugal/ '96: http://www.gsasoccer.com/Default.as...6680&newskeyid=HN1&newsid=8131&ctl=newsdetail
Looks very strong, both physically and skills-wise. He's playing CB in the video it appears. Either that, or I've just derailed my shot at finding a position that pays me to scout via YouTube.
Botosani is 17th out of 18 teams in the Romanian league. OK, they only played one match but they're not trending well.
Now they played 2 matches and lost both. They are 16th with a -6 goal difference. No Twumasi in the squad so far.
I did a Google news search on Kofi Twumasi since he hasn't played for Botosani yet. He showed up in the reserve squad of an intersquad scrimmage of Concordia, which I am guessing is CS Concordia Chiajna (another Romanian team). Not sure if he is on loan there. There was also a Kwadwo Twumasi on their roster (brother?). http://www.prosport.ro/fotbal-inter...-chiajnei-a-batut-echipa-mare-cu-2-1-13779424 http://www.csconcordia.ro/acasa/901...ul-amical-din-2015-1-2-cu-echipa-satelit.html Interestingly, I also found that a certain American named Joe Efford was also on trial with FC Botosani last year. http://www.prosport.ro/fotbal-inter...oinac-aproape-si-el-de-trupa-moldava-12800136
Kofi Twumasi is playing regularly for FC Viitorul in the top tier in Romania (Liga 1) I still can't find where his older brother Kwadwo is playing
Wow. That's pretty good actually. How many appearances this season. I believe Vitorul just beat league leaders Cluj. He seems like an interesting prospect.
Kofi went 90 today as FC Viitorul won 2 - 4 at CSM Scolar Resita in the Romania Cup advancing to the round of 8
Looks like that was his second appearance. He was a sub in the previous league game. Also, Soccerway says that their coach is Gheorghe Hagi. http://us.soccerway.com/players/kofi-twumasi/517979/ By the way, I believe this merits a promotion to the main forum (and a title change: Kofi Twumasi as FC Viitorul in Romania) @bungadiri
Hard to imagine he's not a US citizen. Who'd live in a country for 16 years from age one and not get naturalized?
This Romanian article claims he has US citizenship. http://www.gsp.ro/fotbal/liga-1/la-...-toti-in-meciul-viitorul-cfr-cluj-523901.html Also says that he has been with the second team for a little bit, but has improved and is now getting first team chances.
Kofi's first "sighting" of the (2nd) season as he made the bench for Viitorul as they won 1 - 0 over Poli Iasi in Romania's Liga 1 (Championship Group) and move up to 3rd place (on GD) Next up a visit to mighty Cluj - who are the leaders of the table First 3 teams get Euro play next season #1 Champs. League, 2 & 3 Europa
