Just made his debut for Sunderland u21s, came on as a late sub in a derby against Newcastle and set up the second goal in a 2-0 win.
Gooch and Hyndman seem to be the most impressive out of our yank contingent in England. ..Both already featuring for u21s
That gif is actually from a game of his vs Fulham earlier in the year, and Gooch is the one who scores. Someone posted a bunch of his goals in gif form on the last page.
U.S. U20 MNT forward Lynden Gooch scored his tenth goal of the season in Sunderland U18's 1-1 draw against Wolves today.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) February 18, 2014

Assist in a recent loss: Five minutes before the break Sunderland reduced the deficit with a well-worked goal after good work by Lynden Gooch. The American striker played in Jordan Blinco who took a super first touch before scoring left-footed back across the keeper. http://www.safc.com/news/reserves-and-academy/2014/april/u18s-suffer-first-defeat-in-six
Player update: http://www.safc.com/news/reserves-and-academy/2014/july/gooch-joins-u20-training-camp Sidenote... some of the mackem on the sunderland forum who watch their youth squads say that his early move up to their U-21 side went well last year... and he did not look out of place at all with the older players around him...
The 19-year-old has headed out to his native California to take part in a special 10-day training camp that will include a number of friendly games. I always wonder when an Englishman reads something like that if they have any real conceptualization of how far he might be from his home town? 6 hour drive to Santa Cruz, assuming they're in Carson.
Just posted by some ITK mackem over on the Sunlun interwebs board: "Been doing a bit digging on him, including talking to Mark Atkinson who has worked with him a bit for the development squad in the past. He caught the academies eye when he was 10 when he was on a footballing tour of Europe with an American centre of excellence. The club have worked very closely with Gooch, his family and the American youth teams. He was brought over to Wearside twice a year to train with the youth teams until he signed a contract in 2012. Despite playing as a forward or out wide for the development squad, he has been used in a deep midfield role for his international side due to his physicality and ability. Apparently he has been the target of training regularly with the first team in the uocoming season. Sounds like a really promising talent," http://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/lyndon-gooch.939906/page-2#post-18143708
Well, a few of the better deep lying play makers started out as attacking mids or forwards. Pirlo played out wide, that's why he's particularly good at anticipating runs of forwards/wingers from deep. I'm not sure if they mean he's a deep midfielder (defensive) or deep lying play maker though.
Getting in some preseason action today: Came in during the 2nd half. Frontman @lyndengooch11 is stripped for action, fresh from his success with the US U20 side. He replaces Moberg Karlsson— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) July 22, 2014 Gooch starts very brightly. He strikes the ball from the edge of the box with his left foot but it's blocked by the United backline. Unlucky— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) July 22, 2014
Looks like it was a preseason game where both teams swapped out the senior players and swapped in a large contingent of dev players at around 60 miniutes. Mackems that saw it said their senior team couldn't be arsed for the most part and that dev players Honeyman and Mandron looked excellent when they came on... Gooch got decent and very good ratings as well...
Just saw this in an ASN article about Fernando Arce. Has it been covered in this thread? http://americansoccernow.com/articles/fernando-arce-jr-17-chooses-u-s-over-mexico
Yes it has... I'll let you go find it. But he talks about it in this interview: http://americansoccernow.com/articles/lynden-gooch-18-is-a-highlight-reel-sensation
Interesting. So his mom is Irish and his dad is English? He's not provisionally cap tied yet, right? Since he hasn't played in a youth qualifying game?
