I'm only Italian-American but the thing I don't like is I can't see Germany slowing down now. Have to play them head-to-head to stop them, but if we don't get past the group stages...
I don't know you should go to the Italy board I only follow the Roma board, but most people there accept Germany was the best team. If they pass Italy it won't be a good thing, but its not the end of the world. First Serie A needs to get better and get to the latter stages of Champions League before we can start talking about winning a World Cup again.
There is no coorelation, Argentina and Brazil leagues were not good and yet both have won the WC umpteen times.
Yeh, but most of Italy's players are in Serie A so I think there is some correlation. Most of the good players from Argentina or Brazil go abroad while most of the good players from Italy want to stay in Italy. So you can't really compare the two. Also if you look at the past two winners Germany and Spain they had many players from the same team which did well in Europe. Italy had many players from Juventus which sucked in Europe.
What's interesting about this World Cup though is both Japan and Italy came in trying to play an attacking style and conceded many goals leading up to the cup while focusing on their attack. The idea is probably that any team can defend when they need to, but its not easy to start attacking and link up with you teammates without lots of practice. However in the end they both barely showed anything that they had worked so long on.
