Better team, better performance, more rest, more confidence.

This is Germany's to lose for sure. Argentina will need to score first and score late to have a chance.

Argentina hasn't encountered that many players rushing the box at once like the Germans do, so the defense will need to be prepared for that. But Argentina also hasn't encountered open spaces in the rival's defense (except against Nigeria), so it's going to be a different match.

I don't think Germany will go all out attack throughout the whole match due to the pressure of Messi & Higuain (possibly Di Maria), but there will be instances where Germany is going to rush the box and that's Argentina's time to counter.

    Argentina wins it 2-1.

The head-to-head favours Argentina, although I wouldn't take much heart in that considering that Brazil's head-to-head against Germany was even more favourable. Argentina need Messi and Di Maria --he is likely to be available- to keep the German back four busy and will need to be smart tactic-wise, like they were against the Dutch. I bet Sabella is having more than a few moments of tactical discussion with Bilardo before this match. If we can avoid an early goal and avoid going all out against Germany, I think the match will be a tight affair. This is where a touch of genius can be decisive. And we do we have a few geniuses still hiding inside the lamp.

Apparently Di Maria is still questionable to play in the final. I already felt Germany would win, but Argentina have little chance without Di Maria in my opinion. They need his playmaking ability and his presence keeps Messi from being swamped by defense.

Without Di Maria's playmaking and the attention he commands on defense, I forsee little attacking threat from Argentina. Germany will merely pounce 3 guys on Messi similar to what the Dutch did.

    Lets see what happens.

How do you mean "ruin this one"? Serious question: what do you want to post about? It's possible that the other thread could be reopened, but I'd like to make sure the in-game commentary is concentrated here.

It's also possible that what you'd like to post would be fine here.

@Lahmfan Another thought: I could take the last few pages of the pre-game thread and move it to the Rivalries forum, which is moderated a bit more loosely. Would that work?

not soccer related post and give the Argentinian fans a hard time.

because every single football related posts was already discussed and there is no more value coming out of it
    sure that works too

Okay. I notice that there's already a thread complaining about the absence of a Germany-Argentina Rivalries thread, so it's kind of convenient we've got a pre-fabricated one sitting right here in this forum.

Rizzoli is more than capable of refereeing this in a fashion that allows the game to be good. Hopefully, he will be on his best day so that we can see some excellent play. I hope the teams cooperate!

As for the match, I think we are all waiting to see what tactics each team uses. That will have a great deal of influence of course on what type of match we see. An open match would be a treat.

My hope is that everyone does their best to ensure an excellent experience. For me! :) Best of luck to both nations today!

Will Hummels and Mascherano play? These are the two key players from each side. Kroos is also a crucial player for Germany, but apparently there is nothing wrong with him.

His role has been massive for Argentina, without him I don't see Argentina standing much of a chance bar messi having a maradona like performance.

I saw " der kaiser" play for ny cosmos and although this team also had pele and other stars, this was the player I was drawn to and tried to emulate. Ill spare you all the details now , but this led to attending a football academy led by former bundesliga players and visiting with the national team at USA 94. During the same WC , we had a friendly vs the Greek NT in ny :)

That aside, the wife is German, I have no choice :)
