It would be understandable if that played a role in swaying him on a 50-50 DOGSO decision (possible oxymoron alert). But this was 100% DOGSO. At every level. I can't understand considerations like Brazil's fragile mindset having an influence on that decision.
Problem is the super slow motion , it shows that oscar threw himself the second he saw blind putting his leg in there , but i guess you are right and it should have been a penalty since blind missed the ball and ended up colliding with oscar.
I'm not trying to explain it to an assessor. It was the wrong call and I'm guessing he knows it. I do think he saved himself a world of trouble for the rest of the game by not giving the red card, though. An early red card here could have sent this game spiraling out of control.
Agree, clear penalty . Even if Oscar embellished it, was still a clear plastic. The Dutch didn't touch the ball and his leg was clearly in such a way in front of Oscar that it was impossible for Oscar to avoid contact and not fall. This it shows this ref is bad to both sides. Two PKs to Brazil not called. One offside Dutch goal. One red for Brazil not given. PK for Holland should be a FK unless someone proves he was still being pulled inside the box
And another PK foul on Robben in the box that was not called. Easy PK. This is a total embarrassment.
The 2nd one was hilarious on replay. Defender slipped and got a foul for it. Dutch were through 2 on 1 on goal too.
People here are talking about LOG which demands a red card for Silva even at two minutes of the game. We all know that refs don't give reds so early. If we demand a literal interpretation of the red card law for clear goal chance than why not demanding same thing for holding inside the box at at pieces? I
I disagree refs don't give reds early. We've seen them given in the first minute in MLS for just this scenario This was so clear, that as an assessor, which i am, he would have failed the match instantly. That would be true whether I was assessing a youth referee or a referee on a pro match. It was inexcusable. As for the holding, it is just accepted and until their is a concerted crack down it will continue. No one referee can change it until it is a point if emphasis. That is on FIFA to do and it would trickle down. Some things are judgment calls even if holding is a clear emphasis. Under no circumstances is that red debatable. Whether the first or 90th minute it is a red card. Again not arguing it is not a foul, but just that is where the world is on this call. It has happened all Cup and will at the next one until their is a systematic change and not a single referee who suddenly makes that call.
The big question is, would Geiger have been worse? In all seriousness, this referee, Hamoudi, was terrible. He missed more close calls than he got right, didn't he?
Why would you card Blind? (He was the Dutch defender, right?) It seems to me that MLS is successfully cracking down on this. But that's just within one league. You won't see Geiger or the other MLS FIFAs calling this in international matches.
This was not a good match by the crew. CMI in the first match handled incorrect and from there it appeared to have affected his mental outlook (IMO). The hole was dug and he kept digging. Just a bad day at the office.
IMO bad refereeing Two questionable goals (AR was at fault on both calls IMO) and no Penalty on DL. BUT, I till think it was poetic justice, Brazil had no answer for Nederland Tactical game. Nederland were clearly the better team today (too bad they lost to Arg on penalties). I hope the refs will have a better performance tomorrow. Go Germany!
On the red card play, is the AR solely responsible for in/out of the PA? Or was the CR close enough and he just made the decision himself? I watched the play again and the CR veers slightly toward the site of the foul outside the PA before heading to call the PK. I also saw the AR yelling into his mic from another angle.
I didn't watch the whole match, but saw the early penalty. Sorry, but because this was an exhibition (in essence), I'd bet any amount of money that one of the directions to this referee was "Don't send off someone unless you absolutely have to.". Doesn't excuse anything else he may or may not have missed, but I'm not the least bit surprised he pulled the yellow there.
