Didn't get many chances in the rain against the US, but was in the box showing he's still dangerous.

    Venting time....
Big bar, small TV and slow wireless. Couldn't see that Frenchman who was all over Klose, intent on not letting him score. But it was obvious he should have been carded at least once. Didn't think Klose had a whole game in him and was being roughed up pretty good.

Only two more chances to play and score once more. Still, tying the record and wining the Cup should be reward enough for a great international star.

Tell me that ref wasn't going easy on the French! Was confirmed with 4 extra minutes at the end. Wasn't called for as 2 would have been plenty.

Have been waiting two weeks to post this! Worth every second of waiting.

As above I was in the bar with lousy wifi. But can congratulate him now. 16 and the record. And almost 17!
What a game to watch. So many other streaks and records broken, going to have to read about them all.
    Can't wait till Sunday.

no, I'm just happy he had a chance to do it even playing for Germany
Poles have been leaving the homeland looking for a better life for a very long time

besides, Polska would have needed ten more like him to be as consistent as Germany in the WC
as always we'll have to console ourselves remembering our glory days from the 70s and 80s

He did it! Is there a humbler, more professional player in his generation of players? F. Walter would be very proud of him and maybe a bit envious.

It is good to see the record returned to Germany. The way in which Müller lost it to an immobile Ronaldo was disappointing. This might also be the last time a traditional striker holds the record. The nearest active player is other Müller and no-one else is anywhere near.

Klose & Lewandowski up front. Podolski & Kuba on the Wings. In my dreams

I really think Thomas Muller has a chance to break it. Probably has two more world cups in him. Germany always makes noise in the WC. If he can stay healthy he can do it.

congratulations to him but he had the luxury of an entire extra world cup. ronaldo remains the best world cup scorer.

I think if you want to use the ratio of goals per opportunity in the WC than Ronaldo doesn't hold a candle to Justo Fontaine my Persian friend. I tend to think of Miro's great accomplishment in the framework of the teams he was on and service he got from his mates. I would bet he thinks that way as well. Miro=CLASS!

    Ummmm
    Germany

Klose wasn't even born. I was just a lad.

  18. By that logic, Just Fontaine is the best world cup scorer, by a huge margin.

i was expecting this. yes, statistically fontaine would be superior. but on the other hand, performance in 1 world cup cannot be compared with performance in 3 world cups. its an invalid comparison. plus, it was much easier to score in the 50s compared to the modern game. ronaldo should have been called up in 2010, he would have bagged at least 2. bottom line is, ronaldo>klose in world cup scoring. purely statistical "records" fail to show the whole story. klose is acting like a loser by taunting ronaldo with his stupid record. he should be a man and claim that he is 2nd to him.

With the next World Cup in Europe, I would say Muller has a very good chance at breaking Klose's record.

Always liked watching Klose play. I love those goal scorers who rarely score pretty goals but just put the damn ball in the goal. Gary Lineker also comes to mind.

Funny how it's a stupid record now but not when Ronaldo held it.

Not a stupid record at all, and anyone who says otherwise is a loon. It's one of sports (not just soccer's) holiest records. Klose is more than deserving of owning the record.

nobody said its a stupid record. read between the lines of my previous post. your username takes away any credibility you have, while i gave a balanced assessment of the situation, considering the fact that i am a neutral and have no stake in the situation.

I'm asking too much I know... But 17 would be nice :)

Muller two Golden Boots? even better.

First Euro win in S. America? This day holds a lot of promise!

But he isn't. The record is for most goals scored in WC play and fitness plays a part in the record. Miro has worked really hard to be fit and relevant for this many and that is just part of the achievement.
