I posted monday in another thread that single games are too impredictable and that in the knock out stages they can go from a close score to a catastrophic one. This usually happens when a team is losing and lost all defensive order in dispair to equalize or discount the difference
If anyone before the WC had started would have said Germany would beat Brazil 7-1 in Brazil, and Spain would lose 5-1. Italy, Spain, Portugal and England would not get out of their groups but the US would, I would have told them they were nuts.
There is absolutely no chance brazil will win in Qatar 2022. If anything there is a decent chance the U.S could win its first WC by then at the latest. The days of brasil winning WC is over. Great brazilian legend like Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronadinho will be remembered and they played true to the brazillian way and I have much respect for those brazilian teams. Like tiki tata after it, bonito is a long lost art now. 5 WC is nothing to sneeze at, and those old glory will always be place in history. Now it time to root for the U.S for all WC from now on! RIP brasilian football!
England has always been overrated, I would have been surprised if they had gotten out of the group. I am not surprised for Portugal as well, they have a terrible coach, I was expecting Ghana or USA from that group. The rest, I agree.
Vastly overdramatic. The fault lies with the coach. Had he brought with him players like Lucas Moura, Coutinho or Felipe Luis, Brasil would be way more creative and less reliant on Neymar. The fact that Hulk and Fred are the best attacking options Scolari chose is a travesty. That said I don't see Brasil dominating as they did in the past.
That's ridiculous...8 years is so much time...you have no way of knowing what comes out of all those talented 14, 15, 16 year olds populating Brazil. Of course given the nature of things, simple probability says that the chances of Brazil not winning 2022 is bigger than them winning it, but that's it. You can't deduce anything about 2022 from the smacking they received today.
I hated seeing the little kids cry, and for that I feel sorry....for the decent brazilain fans, I feel sorry again. For the majority of the the arrogant #### , I will enjoy the fact that we made your team look like a Sunday pub league team.
Some of those pics aren't even from this WC. Stop the subtlety and just say what you're thinking, "I want to see riots in Brazil."
I am one of the ones who was happy Brazil lost this badly. Ive always rooted for Brazil, always had a love for the way they played, but the tactics of this Brazil (and a few others) are just disgusting. Brazil is big enough to play like Brazil, not to play like Greece like theyve been doing it all World Cup. Same thing with Argentina tomorrow, I will cheer for Holland. Argentina has got to play elegant, touching football, not this ultra defensive, conservative and anti football tactic they put up. If these countries would go back to their roots then they would do much better. And Fred is the worst world cup player. How he even got nominated is amazing, but the fact that he has played has been even more astonishing.
the dutch overconfidence.... you will see germany in the finals, but with argentina. It will be hard, but Argentina will try to get revenge from 90, 2006 and 2010. I have faith in the team, always had, now more than ever. Having said so, i feel really really bad for Brasil. Yeah, i know, rivalries and stuff, but this was just too much. I actually felt really bad with david luiz crying in the end.
This particular NT isn't as good as the ones we've had before and our coach made way too many bad choices, so winning this Cup, while not impossible, wasn't exactly very likely. But football is part of our culture. Kids everywhere play it. Even people who don't care at all know the basic rules. It's something that makes everybody get together. It simply makes no sense to declare that football is over here, it never will be. We're having a bad phase, terrible really. But I don't think anyone here doubts that we'll get through this eventually. Besides, how exactly will the US be a powerhouse just because Brazil isn't playing well? Not really seeing the relation there.
2 Cups from football arte '58 and '70 3 Cups playing a mix '62 '94 and '02 We didn't lost our identity we evened out tactics to suit the age and the skills of our players I believe Spain was the worse coached team in this Cup because you tried to play a system that you can't (anymore)
I have to say, I really like Oscar. Dunno if he's "World Class", but if I had to pick one Brazilian out of the team today, it would be him.
i love how everyone thinks that since netherlands is UEFA and kinda close to germany, they will sure win tomorrow against argentina. You are in for a big shock.
Argentina Brazil for third place. The ref is gonna wear out his whistle tomorrow calling so many dives of Messi and Robben.
Fred is a limited poacher, Oscar is world Class not as good as Kaka (when Kaka played) but he will have a solid career in Europe's top leagues (which is my definition of world class)
Its not based on that. Its based on how poor Argentina has played (vs mostly inferior opposition) vs how well Holland has played (vs top class opposition)
Sure it is. Repetitive as hell. But with the 7:1 scoreline... well... It almost like the author was clairvoyant.
I don't think I deserved that 'overconfidence' tag. Just hoping to face Germany in the final and I am sure you (Argentina) hope to reach the final too.
US development is incredible over the last 20 years. US squad, which is 2-3 levels lower than Brazil, did better than Brazil I think, and will do better than Brazil. I do not think Brazilian football is dead, but the trend says that US will be a powerhouse if more young people are directed to soccer rather than basketball, baseball etc. If US had the squad as skilful as Brazil, they would have demolished all the teams badly.
