Honestly, I think Brazil - Colombia will prove one of the more comfortable match ups at the quarterfinal stage. Brazil should win with greater ease than many imagine.
I dunno, IM. Except against doormat Cameroon, Brazil hasn't looked comfortable in any of their matches. It may just be that this is the least talented Brazilian team in a generation. Just bad luck, I guess, for Brazil to be the hosts with this team. It's happened the last two WCs as well. A very mediocre German team in 2006, and probably the worst South African team in 10 years at WC 2010.
I agree that Brazil aren't nearly as good as some of their past editions. But unlike teams that troubled Brazil, Colombia don't press all that vigorously and prefer a different style. I think that suits Brazil fine.
I honestly don't see it as a nightmare. The only reason the victory of Uruguay was a nightmare in 1950 is the fact that Brazil started the game winning and Uruguay could turn things around. People in Brazil were celebrating before it happened and taking it for granted. Add to that the fact that until that moment Brazil had never won a World Cup and Uruguay was already a winner. It was our first big chance and we lost it. It was particularly painful because Brazil was dominating the game. Things today area completely different. Brazil has won the World Cup 5 times and its stats are just unbelievable. Regardless, we learn not to celebrate before the final whistle. Yes, losing to Argentina at the final may hurt indeed, but it would be no nightmare. As a matter of fact, I know many people in Brazil that would not take it so badly if Argentina really deserves it. But, before we can dream about such final, Brazil has to beat Colombia, and Argentina has to beat Holland. While I am confident that we can do it, I don't take anything for granted. Not ever! I keep my prognostic of 3x0 for Brazil knowing that anything can happen.
I'm going to pay extra careful to the ref this game. There should be no home cooking like that Croatia game.
Good interview with Tim Vickery, South American football expert for ESPN and the BBC, giving his analysis of Brasil v. Colombia, and discussing what he thinks are the keys to the game (mental and tactical) for each side. It starts at minute 37:03 and goes to about minute 48:35.
As a Colombian I'm very excited about my team and that we made it this far. Before the world cup started I thought reaching this game would be the epitome. Now I believe we have a team that can challenge the favorites. If our boys take the game to Brazil and not sit back we have a chance. As fans we must respect Brazil, but our players shall not. Like good Colombians let's make this party ours and dance the night away. Win or lose we should dance.
Colombia is currently the only team on the planet with an official match unbeaten streak in Brazil. They were able to get 0-0 draws in each of the last two World Cup qualifying cycles. I think this will be a close match. If Colombia can take advantage of Brazilian mistakes (like the ones Chile were not able to capitalize on) then they can knock out Brazil. That said, I would not be surprised to see Brazil sneak out a victory. Just have to wait and see which team goes out there and makes it happen.
I believe it's very likely that this fixture will be one of the most entertaining in the whole tournament if the Columbians continue to celebrate their offensive style of play and don't try to change their formula to outwitting Brazil tactically in a Chilesque manner! They definitly have the potential to outplay the hosts!
Colombia has being very impressive and has shown a very organized team unlike brazil that has struggle every step on their way ....... With that said Brazil has to be the most terrifying institution to face in a knock out stage (specially at home) and taking into acc that Colombia has felt at home thanks to all the Brazilian support i have to give an edge to brazil ...... for the first time Colombia is really a playing as a visitor Nevertheless i hope Colombia will win and expect a great match between two very evenly match teams
Colombia is the team that impressed the most so far. Brazil has been a bit disappointing. I'd say Colombia to get past, Brazilian players have too much pressure on them.
Yes, Colombia, the mighty powerhouse who ascended to world soccer elite by convincingly beating Japan, Ivory Coast, Greece and a wounded Uruguay. Brazil is adjusting, that's all. Watch and learn.
you the real MVP Referinho, Uruguay so wounded without suarez boohoo. We don't have falcao so call it even. Better adjust quick before they get a reality check lol
Brazil is adjusting and can win. I am not going to deny that. But to imply Colombia is not that impressive is just plain ignorant on your behalf. Colombia is without one of their best defensive midfielders in Edwin Valencia and another good midfielder in Aldo Leao Ramirez. Not to mention Carlos Bacca who is one of the best Goal scorers in Spain and some guy named Falcao. Most teams would have been burned by so many injuries. Colombia just plugs in the holes with good quality depth and continues to play well. Watch out.
I liked colombia, think they have a good chance to win and hope they do. But calling it "impressive" might be a bit too much. They are a balanced team with a couple stars but still not favs imo. Even though i would like them to win it all, if arg does not.
Wow... U didn't even read lol.... Im gonna go really slow and plain so you can comprehend ok .... Follow me .... Brazil in paper has the best chance to win.... You got that so far? .... Good now the second par.... As a Colombian i want Colombia to win.... How about that? ....you got it?.... Now the last part... No matter what i expect a good game..... You let me know if you need graphics ok
I can remember the last time a great colombian team faced an local team which was historic, favorite, and had the pressure and urgent need to win... Yeap, it was 1993 Just sayin'
Yes, I know Edwin Valencia, he's a sub at my club, Fluminense. Can Colombia win? Sure. Anything can happen and I am not underestimating Colombia. I respect them as I already said many times here. I am just saying that people are not respecting Brasil. All I am saying is that if the Colombians think they are going to run over Brazil they are up for a big surprise. And it is not judt on paper. Soccer is about tradition. If we put the Brazilian jerseys alone in the field, they will give any team in a world a hard time.
Will Colombia cope with Neymar theatrics? The referee from Spain usually rewards divers and I see Colombia being cheated out
