I have a strong feeling that Brazil will start improving on this game and it will peak at the final on July 13. We got be careful with Cuadrado and Rodriguez, but we have no reason whatsoever to fear Colombia. Yes, we respect them, but we shouldn't fear them. This is Brazil we are talking about, dude. The fact that we haven't peaked yet is actually great news.
Yes. I agree. I cheered for Colombia on the round of 16 and I don't believe there will be easy games for anyone on this cup. I believe Brazil can improve its game and win? Yes, I do. We have some of the best players in the world. That doesn't mean that I will not respect Colombia or gloat about anything after the final whistle in case Brazil wins.
The problem would be if you have actually peaked but you are just not aware of it Argentina faces the same dilemma.
Could be. But this is the exact same team that play Confederations Cup. They are definitely not at its best yet.
I'm confident Brazil will win this. Colombia is a good matchup for Brazil, as they actually focus on playing football, rather than trying to destroy it. Hope it turns out to be as good of a game as everyone expects. I think everyone is focused on the fact that Colombia is playing great football and will be Brazil's toughest opponent, but one shouldn't forget that Colombia hasn't faced anyone nearly as good as Brazil yet.
I believe Colombia is a good match up for Brazil as well. Colombia don't press vigorously and against a team like Brazil, playing at home, that will enable Brazil to play its game much better than it has up to now.
It's true, but I think the gap between Brazil and Uruguay or Greece is larger than the gap between Colombia and Chile or Mexico. No doubt Colombia is shining, but now they will face some pressure for the first time. This will also be their first game without home field advantage. We Brazilians like our neighbors, but on Friday it probably won't be such a welcoming environment!
Now you are really underestimating Mexico and Chile. Netherlands and Spain know how though they can be.
Weird how i still can't see Brazil losing this at home eventhough i'd like Colombia to make it for their exceptionnal generation and what they showed since the beginning
Generally, gloating is unjustified. But say Brasil or Colombia were to impose a 5-0 goleada on the other? I fully expect gloating by the winning side. And, frankly, the losing side would have it coming in that event. A winning country can't control how some its fans will react. For that very reason, the winning country is not responsible for the behavior of those fans, nor should sweeping conclusions be drawn based on that behavior alone. Brazil have indeed struggled a lot, but to say that Chile is not a strong team is pretty dismissive. They qualified 3rd from the CONMEBOL eliminatorias, just 2 points behind Colombia, and 4 points behind Argentina, over 16 games. They beat Spain 2-0. And according to both ELO and SPI, they're ranked about 7th in the world (not that Coca-Cola/FIFA garbage). Mexico also have solid team. They advanced with the same number of points from Brasil's group, and could have eliminated a very strong Dutch team (that beat Spain and Chile) if their manager had not employed such cowardly tactics to sit on a meager 1-0 lead. ELO has them 9th, and SPI 13th.
I think most Brazil fans have already been humbled by the games we've played (especially Mexico and Chile). Most traditional teams are in the same situation, so I don't think anyone will be gloating at this stage. Now, if we win the Cup, then I can't make any promises...
Colombia since the beginning is pure joy! beautiful team, beautiful game, beautiful celebrations, great attitude, beautiful fans! but don't know...too beautiful to be true!
It's not too beautiful to be true. Colombia are the real deal. They were second, just 2 points behind Argentina, in the South American World Cup qualifiers--which are a 16 game marathon. They arguably have the best record of any team in this World Cup. They easily beat Uruguay, which, despite its flaws, is always a pain in the ass, and you will recall, took both Italy and England out of the Cup. I don't think much more evidence is necessary. This match is surely worthy of a semifinal at least.
I was looking on ELO for any Colombia wins over Brazil in Brazil, and noticed that Colombia qualified for the 1990 WC by winning a playoff against Israel, of all teams. Never did find any wins in Brazil.
They'd be a great world champion but i don't know...i've never seen the most deserving team winning it.
...and took a beating from the great soccer nation: Costa Rica. Not to mention, it was missing it's most important player Suarez who was scorted by the police and couldn't even have lunch with the team after the incident. That must have played a part on their demise. I could be wrong. But while I respect the Colombians, I am from Brazil. We are not afraid of anyone.
That's because there aren't any. Brasil's two losses came in the 1991 Copa America, held in Chile, by 2-0; and in a 1985 friendly in Bogota, by 1-0. The last four matches between Colombia and Brasil have been draws, though.
A good reminder for everyone saying Brazil already lost this game: In ALL history, Brazil only lost three official competitive games at home. One in 1949, the second in the 1950 World Cup final with the very same team and the last in 1975. I am not saying it can't happen, I am just saying that it is damn hard and unlikely to happen.
I am sure it has "nearly happened" many times, not just last Saturday. What counts is for it to actually happen and if my prediction from several months ago is to hold true, it won't happen until Argentina face Brazil in the final. While Argentina haven't looked impressive at all so far, I think that is still the nightmare scenario Brazil face.
