I'd like to know which challenge he's talking about. I did read that he said it was in the 1st half and I remember (haven't seen a full replay) 2 challenges where he went down. Must be one of those. My mistake.

"He said he is ashamed but don't know why you are linking it to it"

^I'm not even sure what this means. Once I see the replay, I'll look for the 3 clear PKs he's talking about (One must the the double challenge).

USA fan here, with some Dutch (and German) blood in me. I'm glad the Oranje beat Mexico. Although the call for Robben at the end was questionable, he was clearly fouled by not one, but two players at the end of the first half with zero calls. Call the PK a make up call or justice, it worked out in the end.

Also, hearing Mexican fans complain about diving is like hearing Mike Tyson saying Saurez is an animal for biting someone. They are among the best at diving as well as dirty play. Most US fans are very familiar with their tactics and it was nice them die by the sword. Good luck against Costa Rica, who have a cheat on their team in Joel Campbell.

i think in the end we deserved the win, mexico can blame all they want, but in the end it was poor tactics after the goal... if theres one team you dont want to sit back and try and defend a 1-0 lead against at this years WC, its holland. silly silly tactics

Bah, everyone was complaining about Brazil's penalty. And other team's defensive play in the past. But when we play like that get an easy penalty it's suddenly okay. WTF??
If my country or my club get an easy call or luck I will say it like it is.

Yes, we likely would have won in extra 30 minutes, yes we could have got a penalty in the first half, but it does not ''justify'' the late penalty.

The truth is that the mexican defenders and especially Rafa continuously threw themselves in front of Arjen Robben. On almost every run from Arjen Robben he was impeded by a reckless tackle from a Mexican player, yet he didn't go down. Even the english commentator on the channel I was watching agreed that in the 74th minute Rafa Marquez was lucky that Robben didn't go down from his tackle, otherwise it should have been given. That's not even beginning to talk about the obvious double penalty earlier in the match.

The Mexican players just kept on throwing in rash tackles, and they really have no one to blame but themselves. You just cannot go in like that on players in the box. It's just like the Costa penalty vs Holland, I was much more pissed at the dutch defender for going in like that on a player in the box than I was at Costa.

Either way, here is a great view of why it was such a stupid tackle and a deserved penalty.

At the end of the day the Sneijder goal was the nail in the coffin for Mexico. Their tactics allowed Holland to dominate the game, and as soon as the goal finally fell there was really ever only going to be one winner.

Most if not all fans are hypocrites. Or incredibly biased. Otherwise they would not be fans

    Disagree..
There is no shame in admitting that your own country or club gets an easy call or luck.

If Netherlands gets that 100% penalty, we could just have started to sit deep and let the counters run up the score. Now we have wasted a lot of energy in idiotic hot conditions, maybe setting us up to lose the next game vs a dangerous Costa Rica.

Netherlands has not been lucky this WC. We got a bullshi*t penalty in game 1. Another one in game 2. Had to come back from behind as a result of those in 2 games and this time we had to come back from behind again as a penalty was not given. 3 times now did we have to dig deep into our reserves to come back and that can easily catch up to us in the next game.

Doesn't get much clearer than that. That was in my opinion the only penalty that should have been given.

The eventual penalty we did get was a dive even if he did get touched. Was easily given. But I'm hypocritical enough to just take it and be happy with it.

Agree about the second part. Not so much the first part. We only have to play next saturday. Plenty of time to rest. And Costa Rica played 120 minutes + penalties, with a man down for about 45 minutes. Don't think we have the disadvantage.

I will also pay some respect to a player from the Mexican team as he will probably retire after this WC. Though he might have been unlucky with his final action in the box I thought that Rafael Marquez had a pretty good tournament.

124 caps for his country. Great achievement. Good luck to him.

But Costa Rica also had to play 120 minutes, and with ten men for a decent amount of it. Should even out, and if we lose the semis after that, I don't think you could point to this as being the reason.

I was angry (and terribly sad, sad I still am) yesterday but not at you guys. I don't blame Robben for diving in the first half or selling the penalty. That's not why we lost. We were out-coached and that is all. You guys have a great team. Van Persie is still one of my favorite players (even though that treasonous snake left us for United :ROFLMAO:).

Good luck the rest of the tournament. I hope you guys make it to the final.

PS. If you could please not allow the Costa Ricans to get past you that would be great.

Hypocritical might be too strong a word but my point is as fans we are all biased to a degree. I had no problem with the penalty, a weak call but I've seen worse and in context a fair result given the missed PK in the first half. If I was a Mexico fan, I'd be pissed, at least partially. Had we lost I'd be pissed that the ref missed the first PK

Thank you for your kind words. If its any consolation I think we too will be out in semifinals now that deJong is probably out of WC
